Hi, Mathias! Thans for the song! Giant Steps is a cool thing =)
Did you tune the Stick with unusual way? That's very interesting! You traded places of 1-5 strings with 6-10, didn't you? Is it more easy to play like that? Everybody else usually play standard tuning.
I am not fan of these weird instruments but i have to say this is good....i am not full of shit like most people. If something is good i can say it doesn't matter if i like it or not.
well in that case, some one needs to buy him a chin strap for that hat because that was one of the best giants steps covers i heard. who needs a bass & guitar anymore? chapman sticks own! lol.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
cool.... and u got skills. but i gotta say... thats instrument SOUNDS annoying, i would never listen to it the way u are playing. play more dense chords, more harmony shit, thats what sounds cool on that thing
That is tough! I love Alphonso Johnson and he plays the Stick and really it is like a keyboard hitting the strings direct. You can use all ten digits and still I guess do double stops and free up another digit to play lines in between! A bass player of mine was interested in the Stick ,today he is an excellent keyboard player. Tapping has it's place and it was mean when he got the vibrato and the bends on the strings- good music!- Fc
As much as I dislike chapman sticks, it takes an incredible amount of syncopation to get something that sounds remotely like a coherent musical thought. Great job.
great !! dear collegue!! big control...very accute work...i have seen your stick with basse down and string melodie up ...it s better like this? the polyphonie? with the hand?
I don't care if you have or not technique(because I don't know about it), I don't care if people agree or not with this, I just can say that this has a great job, and if somebody think that it's not just check how this instrument works......it is for crazy people! imagine now puting work Giant steps with it!.....IT IS A LOT OF WORK!

le hic c'est qu'à tout faire tout seul, ça prend une tournure démonstrative, mais bon, c'est à s'y méprendre... je ne suis pas bassiste, j'aime la technique et le jazz aussi, alors bien joué !
this song is difficult to play and this guy is playing a walking bass line and soloing, definitely the most amazing thing ive seen played on a chapman stick
Awesome playing. They NEED to produce an affordable budgetline chapman stick, so more people can actually afford it in the first place. I know I can't afford even the cheapest one out right now by a long shot.
That's not the usual stringing for a Chapman stick, is it? Bass is on the left strings (viewer's right) and regular guitar strings are on the right (viewer's left) with regular strings giving higher notes as you move in. Is that a custom layout?
The third attribute concerns the tuning of the strings .
The playing direction is "parallel" , not mirrored as in the case of Stick Standard Tuning. The tuning is orientated at traditionally approved tunings.
- the strings left hand are tuned into fifths as in the case of a cello
strings 5 - 1 : ,C - ,G - D - A - e
- the strings for the right hand are into leant against the classical guitar tuning tuned in fourth with the characteristically third strings 10 - 6 : G - c - f - a - d"
I see you have it strung in an uncrossed fashion, which has always seemed more logical to me, though I've heard the claim that crossed lets you use the thumb better.
In any event, I have a hard enough time just trying to blow through the Giant Steps changes WITHOUT the complication of having to supply my own accompaniment! Nice...
great playing!...have you got it strung with the bass side strings on the left hand like a normal bass, with melody strings on the right hand strung also like normal intervals of guitar?
