ya it will cause u to have a irregular heart beat....everyone i have seen make these videos with that thing on there chest ends up disappearing off youtube a month after they post it.
Look up American Med Supply on YouTube because they are giving away a free AED. All you have to do is enter the drawing, it's that easy. Plus, we are giving away a bunch of other great gifts and prizes all year long. No purchase required.
I am a First aid and Rescue Specialist Instructor. There was not enough hair. The pads stuck well enough to asses the "patient". They say to shave the chest if there is enough hair to prevent the pads from sticking. The hair has nothing to do with assessing the patient. As for the "Compressions advised", this is because the machine detected enough that it cannot deliver a shock, and will advise Compressions. It assumes you are smart enough to not put it on a person that is awake and breathing
like most "myth buster" vids, this vid did not bust the supposed myth, though that didn't prevent the usual illogical pronouncements. worse, that AED's advising chest compressions on an apparently healthy subject. obvious from the deportment of the "tester" that the conclusion of this "test" was presumed from the start.
Of course it advised CPR. The AED is only placed on patients in cardiac arrest. It then analyzes the rhythm to determine if it is shockable or not, if not then it advises CPR. The patient in the demonstration was obviously not in a shockable rhythm, so it advises CPR. It does demonstrate that the AED was able to read the rhythm which is what they stated.
As far as the use of AED pads to remove hair, urban legend. If there is too much hair for a good connection, shave it!
2 years ago i was at a store and someone yelled that someone was having a heart attack. 87 y/o m was in full arrest. called for local FD to respond. guess what hairy chest. the FF put the pads on the chest and guess what. "check pads" over and over again. they did not connect at ALL to the chest. that is why it says to SHAVE THE CHEST!! ask any seasoned EMS and they will tell you its a 50/50 shot. id rather take the time with cpr and shave the chest
Thank you for posting this. I am a new FA/CPR/AED instructor for the Red Cross. During my training, the instructor was telling us that the chest needed to be shaved, and I thought that was bogus. It is good to see I was right.
Can you donate some pads to us, since you can see you have too much of them. In Mexico it costs around 200 USD, or a basic mexican families monthly income.

There was hardly enough hair on the chest to shave during AED placement. The whole idea is for VERY hairy chests, not per-pubescent boys.

SHOCK EM!
MacMillan555 3 years ago
I thought the point was that chest hair traps air and increases impedance, reducing the effectiveness of the shock.
