  • not enough beard in this video

  • I may be getting old; they sound like a garage band...

  • The White Strips suck compared to The Black Keys:)

  • April 24th. See you then awesomeness know as The Black Keys.

  • Love this song!

  • SCHOOL OF ROCK!!!!!!

  • I need Ryan Adams tix for Denver tonight sooooo bad. Just putting it out there in the Universe!! I'm a good person. C'mon, karma.

  • School of Rock!! :D

  • i think we need the piano tour. black keys and the white stripes.

  • @farg1esnuff that would be awesome too bad the white stripes stopped making music :(

  • 5 star

  • Lol at 0:25. Anyway The Black Keys and Cage The Elephant showld make a song one day.

  • It's funnuy how you all bask the white stripes when it comes to the Black keys.. they are on Jack White's own label lol fail...

  • if patrick carney and jack white ever teamed up, i think the space time continuum would tear.

  • hey sumo you little little sucker .... i hear the white stripes very very oftn and hey Jack white is great he is a super Guitar player but the Drums and the groove from the Band is a little dirty FART in my asshole !! wehn you hear the Key´s and the grove from that

sorry white stripes was Yesterday yet is KEy Time

  • its odd, i would never expect that voice to come out of of this dude. hes got soul.he does look weird without a beard its the first time ive seen him clean shaven.

  • I commented a few years ago on this video, would like to say I regret what I said about TBK...

    they are really good

  • I can't wait till July!!!!!!!!!

  • What's up with the dead crowd?

  • this is simply great

  • The funny thing is that if they were a standard four man band noone would compare them to White Stripes...

  • @jackofalltrades156 The Black Keys already perform with 4 people ( rhythm and bass. ) We compare them to the White Stripes because they both play Blues Rock.

  • @hailmasch hardly, saw them live at bonnaroo and it was only dan and patrick on stage

  • @mrmexssr The bassist and rhythm guitarist were standing behind them on the stage. Look up a video of them playing there and you'll see. Or just listen. You'll be able to hear a bass guitar.

  • @hailmasch LOL, what a nub. No there isnt, Dan plays the top string on his guitar like a simple bass. They now use a bassist and keyboardist for about half their songs on tours now. Soure: Big fan and have been to heir concerts.

  • @RobotReg Yes there is. Just not for every song. Firstly, Howlin For You isn't even possible with one guitar. It goes between a fuzz guitar and a clean one through a tremolo effect. You can clearly see a bassist in Tighten Up and Next Girl. Important to note, you can't make a guitar sound like a bass, short of using effects or down tuning. He might of been playing the bassline on E string, but it wouldn't sound like a bass. The White Stripes, however, almost exclusively performed with 2 people.

  • @hailmasch Wow. If only some sort of loop pedal existed, they wouldn't need to use two guitars, and it would be possible with one. Darn it.

And, The White Stripes may not have a bassist, live or otherwise, but the strings Jack uses, what he plays and the tuning he uses contribute to the bass sound. So you can get bass sounds out of a guitar without effects.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about, so stop.

  • @hazuinf Jack used 9s and 10s (depending on who set his guitar up) and played in standard tuning. He had two guitars tuned to Open E and Open A for slide. He doesn't downtune any of his guitars. I'm pretty sure you have no idea how guitars work.

Second, Dan doesn't use loopers. Look up a video of them playing Howlin For You. In every video, a keyboard or a second guitar plays with him. In one video where there isn't a keyboard or guitar, he changes the song completely to account for it.

  • @hailmasch I didn't realise knowledge of Jack's setup = knowledge of guitars.

I never said he definitely uses a looper. I never said he didn't use a backing band. Why shouldn't he, if he writes the songs anyway?

What I was counter-arguing was your comment that 'Howlin For You isn't even possible with one guitar' because 'It goes between a fuzz guitar and a clean one through a tremolo effect', which is not true.

  • @hailmasch Also, if the two parts weren't played at the same time, then it would be an even simpler task of stomping a few pedals between each part. THAT's what suggests to me that you don't know what you're talking about.

  • @hazuinf But the parts ARE played together. Sure, if you completely change the intro, it would work, but then it wouldn't be the same song. Which is fine, but all I was saying is the studio version of the song isn't possible to be played on only one guitar.

  • @hailmasch One guitar + one looper pedal =/= two guitars. You play the first part into the looper at the start of the song, then play it out of the pedal when you need it. In the studio, even easier, you just remove the bit where you commit it to the pedal in the production stage.

  • @hazuinf Also, using a looper pedal isn't the same as playing with one guitar. It is still two guitars playing at once. I said that it wouldn't be possible to play both guitar parts on one guitar.

  • @hailmasch Yes, it would be possible on one guitar. You pre-record one part on the looper then have that playing and play the second part over it.

  • @hazuinf That is still two guitars playing. A recorded guitar and a guitar playing live. You fail to notice that the Black Keys don't use a looper.

  • @RobotReg Also, YOU are not a valid source. That is basically saying "I'm right because I'm right."

  • By golly gee, I believe this is rock.

  • i love his voice, love the guitar, love the drums, love the absence of bass, love everything about this band!

  • Man, they sound great here. I saw them on their latest tour as a 4 piece... not the same energy at all.

  • I love Dan Auerbach's guitar work, but sometimes I wish he would just fucking rip and shred out a crazy solo. hes pretty reserved in his playing although im pretty positive he can play alot more

  • so special

  • WHAT! whyd it end

  • yet in some ways, the blues element is so much more present in the stripes than the keys. thats the beauty of a such a versitile genre. it never gets old and never will

  • Does he have a fuzz pedal on throughout this song? and then somekind of booster for his solo ?

(most 2 pedals i have on at the same time, suck alot of volume, and add alot of unwanted compression)

    PLEASE ANSWER

  • Who heard this song on The School of Rock?

  • @whatchukno100 that would be me, long back when i was only 11. liked em ever since.

  • I'm 16 and I listen to Jack White's projects and The Black Keys and oldies. These guys are going to be legends.

  • White Stripes, Black Keys, both great American Music from the Great Midwest! :)

  • One of the only true purist bands out there, And to the retard that said "White Stripes done right":, .yeah, this wasn't what Jack White was going for. He produces and has a whole new legacy happening with Third Man Records and I have been itching for a new stripes album. I love the White Stripes. Being able to see them 5 times live with one a secret show, I truly appreciate what they do. I'm a female punk rock drummer, Working with Jack White would make me awkward too. Give her a break.

  • Dan looks better with a beard.

  • damn these guys rock

  • the lead singer looks like pete the pirate from dodgeball

  • @LittleNeher Omg he does! :))

  • White Stripes Done Right

  • Can you believe these guys aren't in their high school hall of fame? Dan is pissed about that....

  • dan finger picks?!?! RIGHT ON

  • Old school Rock 'n Roll! Gotten caught up in this band. The vibe is AWeSoME!!

  • PAT IS SO HOT. he plays drums like a freaking beast.

  • Dan Auerbach totally looks like Tim Roth without a beard. Keep the beard Dan... keep the beard.

  • props from portugal

  • @85rns x2

  • respect from greece!!!!!

  • what pedal does he use at 1 min 40 sec ?

  • This song is way too fucking short

  • "tu-tu-tu-tu-ta-ta-ta-ta"

  • holy shit i am in love. music that makes you feel this way is a rare thing

  • he really sounds like that...........no help.........pretty fuckin cool

  • AAAAAAAAAAAA....MUSICAAA VIVAAA! REAL MUSIC

  • was horribly disappointed when they didnt play this at oxegen!

  • amazing

  • Fuckenzeedeutch!!! That's some amazing shit! It's like they're one instument__the drumtar or guitum or something. Heavy-duty sugar booty! That's good stuff.

  • tytytytytyty

  • this bands kicks major ass. hopefully they come by kansas city sometime. but yeah these guys bring out life in me

  • this makes my feet move and wobble my head on my body. See you sunday @Rockin Park in Nijmegen!

  • hey assholes who never played an instrument AND I DONT MEAN A FUCKIN DJ BOOTH NO FUCK U .. I mean a REAL instrument... like a guitar or drums or even a violen or viola.... these guys are amazing with what theyve created and if you cant see that then go somewhere else... eff the haters you dont know jack.

  • i love the Black Keys seeing them live at ACL (Austin City Limits) 2010.... YES!

  • what effect does he use on his little solo/outburst on 1:38 ? is it big muff pi ?

  • @adamhopeless he uses a sovtek big muff and a few other fuzz pedals. i dont know which one he uses in this though

  • Mmmmmmmm....that's how I feel when I listen to the Black Keys....delicious!!

  • jmiller...ima brother from da east coast and been in love wit dis band from 04...yes they do rock n you should like it since the blues was/is afro-amercian based...yes...WE CREATED ROCK N ROLL....!!!!!

  • omfg! the first time i heard this was the scene in School of Rock w/Black and Cusack in the bar and I fell in love with this song right then and there. God these boys ROCK!!! eek!

  • This would do Hendrix proud. :)

  • I think they're the best live band of all time, holy shit.

  • Why does the drummer play sideways? It looks pretty awesome.

  • @xLukiiexDx Probably because it looks awesome :-)

  • i meant 2:14 !

  • did he kiss the mic at 1:48?? i think he did! haha:D

  • Comment removed

  • It's amazing how different people can look with/without beards and glasses ;P

  • fuck bass players!

  • @jesamani75 Well said hahahahahahahahhaa!!

  • Dan play without pallet...

  • I never heard of them until two hours ago. AMAZAZING!!!!! I'M ALL IN ON THIS ONE.

  • LESS IS MORE!!!! This is great stuff!, I'm so mad I missed out on seeing them for free at this year's SXSW

  • holy fuck these guys are amazing...such soulful sons of bitches jesus!!! fucking great.

  • We have a video posted of my band "Age of Man" covering this song... obviously not as good as this, but worth listen perhaps.

  • *uckin video cut out.. :(

  • how many members of the band are there? three or two like the white stripes?

  • Just Dan and Pat. Best blues duo ever.

  • 1:48 to 1:52 whatever the fuck his guitar is doing, it's Fuzz-Tacular

  • Love The Black Keys and The White Stripes. I don't bother comparing them. Hard blues all the way. Checkout DeepSeaGreen for some similar vibes. I'm not spamming, you really should checkout this band, and more Black Keys of course.

  • this song is so Hendrix-esque

  • Why does praising the keys have to involve putting someone else down?

The Stripes makes music that the Keys could never do and vice versa.

The blues element is so much more present with the keys then the stripes and so forth.

  • Small brain people don't have room to allow two different realities to exist. Everything is "the best" "the greatest" and so on, so forth.

  • @Sumoterapi That's because Meg white waters it down. I love the White Stripes but Jack carries the weight

  • Is this video meant to blue ball everyone by cutting out?

  • i understand why the white stripes made it mainstream, jack white just looks like a star and the world is all too big on presentation, but fact is The Black Keys' music craps all over the stripes.

  • ... I´m gonna set you free!!!! I set you free, I set you free... I set you freeeeeeee!!!!! powoooww!!!!

  • not to bad for a couple of dudes from ohio...rockin blues....fun

  • ...actually, is there a fuzz pedal that would do something like this under $100?

  • @nomorejournos russian big muff

  • @nomorejournos Danelectro French Toast. Dan uses a fOXX Tone Machine on this song, and the French toast is an EXACT clone, it's a steal at under $50.

  • teets brother, appreciate the deal-sluthing

  • @nomorejournos:

    Any fuzz with silicon tranzistors.

  • russian big muff

  • @jmillerz5555 i love the black keys, even though i am not black i can kinda relate because i am seeing them @ ACL (Austin City Limits) 2010.....YES!

  • @jmillerz5555 have you ever listened to any led zeppelin or AC/DC

  • @bigdog7able I think he may need to go back a little further to get a feel for the blues that The Black Keys are channelling... say, Muddy Waters, Albert King, B.B. King, etc.? I know that the mighty Zep and AC/DC had the same feeling, but nothing beats the original!

  • @jmillerz5555

yeah man, that's because these cats are tapping into the soul of the black blues guys from years ago....

  • @jmillerz5555 aye my dude..i can dig it... im a Black dude from D.C 28 years old.. I can honestly say these dudes are on my top 5 favorite list of music outside of Hip Hop.. like I like Metal..but not all of it basically im a die hard Black Sabbath fan and yo They are Gods my dude.. Listen to some of their songs like War Pig for whats going on today in the world ..(War) even tho they wont call it that.. • @jmillerz5555 thats fucking awesome man, that rocks to hear people say that they can feel the music and feel the energy that music gives. keep rocking peace and love

  • @jmillerz5555

I'm a 36 year old white fan from a small town in OHIO anbout 30 miles from where these guy hail, and there are still dumb old biggots around here that referr to this stuff as "Race music". I've seen these guys play local back at Akron U. and their music does show a strong Mississippi Blues influence, many of their recordings are covers, they definitely bring their own souls to the music that touches the feel of the listener. Welcome.A white blues junkie.

  • @jmillerz5555 What's great about these guys vs. Tupac, it doesn't get to their head. Tupac let fame get to his head so much that it got him shot. Shame because he was an intelligent human being. Want other bands that are similar check out Cold War Kids and The White Stripes. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but those bands ALL together for a tour would be AMAZING.

  • how can you get this bass'y/ delayed/ fuzz sound from a telecaster ?

if someone could introduce me to a stomp pedal, id be more than happy to buy it.

    anyone ?

  • read my previous comment =D

  • i mean just a singular stmp pedal ? :)

  • hmmm, I believe he uses a series of fuzzes and compressers, you can go to guitar center and play with all their pedals... im sure you can find one thier that gets the sound. sorry for my lack of help.lol.

  • he switches pedals a lot so i can't exactly help you, but adding a bigsby to your tele gives it a 'bassy-er' sound and a great tone

  • @adamhopeless its just a digitech whammy i believe. thats dan's main pedal, taken from what ive read. the bass'y sound usually comes from him playing the bass rhythm palm muted Low E and rhythm on the bottom 5 strings.

  • eq filters, compressors, and processors. all things that are included on more expensive digital amps. but you can buy them as rack mounts as well. or you need to purchase quite a few pedals to obtain that sound.

  • @adamhopeless i think its some kinda old school guitar synth cant remember it of the top of my head google micro synth or somthing :)

  • cool cat fuzz only £30

  • I get a 'bass-y' fuzz tone from my guitars by playing them out of bass amplifiers. Retardedly simple, but true.

  • I think I am in love

  • does anyone know what kind of fuzz he uses?

  • I got almost the same sound out of the boss heavy metal pedal and a zoom g1x, get as close as you can with the zoom, then use the Boss. sorry, not much help >.>

  • I know for a fact he has a Russian Big Muff, dunno if thats what he's using.

  • enough fuzz to make your insides vibrate!

i will always be thankful that my brother bought the school of rock soundtrack

  • i first heard this on the school of rock soundtrack when i was 10

the fuzz melted my face off

  • awesome! while listening to this I just can't sit still:)

  • WOW.

FUCKING RIDICULOUS.( in the awsome way)

  • How good can something be?

  • So Solid, So unique, and FUCKING AWESOME!!! BLUESY ROCK & ROLL!!

  • ****THE BLACK KEYS

  • these guys are awsome, there better than a real band with just two people

  • They are a real band, dip shit.

  • haha

  • thankyou, now i dont have to say it..

  • haha

  • all of his words join together ! haha. great for just a duo. brilliant song !

  • I've seen them and the white stripes live, as much as a love the stripes the black keys dominate live hands down

  • honestl;y there better than the stripes live ...although i love jacks voice this guys can really sing and meg is ok but this is a real drummer

    there very good live

  • Not jimmi -original - perfection

  • Lack of members, I mean who play the bass guitar?

  • black keys dont have a bass player... part of what gives them their unique sound.

  • no need for one

  • i hear Jimi in this tune

  • ooh me - tooo good

  • fuck yeah

  • I literally love every single song on all their albums! Some are better than others, but these guys don't have a bad song!

  • I was lucky to see these guys in Utrecht. EXCELLENT!!!!!! worth the trip to holland. Black Keys gonna set you free.

  • fuck yeah!

  • Fuck that's some noise comming from just 2 guys!!
