  • The only thing I fear for this movie now, is a little thing called overhype. There is that much building up to it, can it meet the high expectations? If it does, it'll be a box office unsurpasable behemoth that'll stick at the top of the charts for years to come.

  • I hope it meets or even exceeds the expectations! We're not talking about Michael Bay here! This is James F'in Cameron! When he makes a movie, he doesn't do it for the money. He does it to tell a good story. He's like the Stanley Kubrick of action films!

  • Wow man that was a beautiful speech it almost made me cry.

  • Its funny reading these hate comments. These guys literally have no idea what they are talking about. AVATAR day was incredible, critics, haters, and the average movie goer all had stunned faces and sat in silence when it finished. I feel sorry for the people who are jugding this movie by the unfinished teaser and comparing it to District 9. HA thats great, they will see

  • I had pretty much the same reaction-at the end I was like ''WOW''.Probably ended up seing it like 5 times. I've never seen a film in IMAX before but AVATAR seems like the kind of film you just have to!!!

    Can't wait for december 18th!!!!

  • in the words of Shakespeare: everyone's a critic!

  • I saw the 16 min extended trailer in IMAX 3D and i was pretty impressed. Best CGI I've seen hands down, but Fusion Pace camera system has problems. Yes - the technology is cool, and the "wow" effect will probably wear off in the 1st 25 min. I firmly believe that its the story that will keep people coming back to the theaters. I read the scriptment over a year ago, and its the complex, heartfelt story, that will drive it. This film will deliver an experience like "star wars" in the 70's.

  • dude it wasnt that good, honestly for the hype i wasnt blown away like i thought... and it doesnt look like im the only one. then again i watched it on youtube.

  • watch it again at apple in 1080p hi res. the thing is even at that quality, it's nothing compared to seeing it in IMAX 3D

  • YouTube's a horrible way 2 experience Avatar. In my opinion 1080p res is th minimum it should be watched. I saw the 15 min. trailer Fri. night in IMAX & managed to sneak into a 2nd screening that night. What I noticed is that the Aliens, environment, & creatures looked better th 2nd time around. I think my eyes/brain just needed time 2 accept the imagery that I was seeing. I believe wen people watch the full length movie in its natural order & pacing it will be easier for the audience 2 accept

  • is any body getting a dances with wolfs, feeling from this movie, of course im talking about the story.

  • Genuinely this is the most genuine reponse vid I have found, nice work!

  • are you drunk or stupid or both? it looks like a shitty cartoon..

  • all right sober genius, show me something better!

  • take your pick..compared to all other cgi effects film this is very average. nothing new and stunning about this. It could be "monsters inc 2" as far as im concerned

  • then you should go to eye doctor because there's obviously something wrong with your eyes. I've been a fan of CGI effects for nearly 20 years. I've seen all the movies that had the groundbreaking effects we take for granted today and I've seen the best Pixar films, so I know a thing or two about CGI. I will admit, Avatar isn't in the same ballpark with all those great movies and you know why? Because it's in a whole 'nother league! And when you see Avatar in 4 months, you'll be eating your words

  • well Ive been a fan of jimi hendrix for 30 years but that doesnt meen I can play the guitar. maybe you just dont have an eye for cgi? dont think my mother could the difference between 2 cgi shots either.

Yes, I might eat my words in 4 months time if the cgi shots in the trailer arent the final rendered shots, otherwise that really seals the deal

  • Well, I didn't say I know how to create CGI, like hendrix can play the guitar, but I do have an eye for CGI. It is one of my favorite aspects of movies and yes, I can tell that the shots in Avatar are CGI, but it is the best CGI I have ever seen. And of course they are not the final renderings, some do need more work (the walkers running out of the ship is an example), but the majority of shots I've seen are so good, they can easily be mistaken as live action (the screaming Na'Vi at 1:39)

  • allright, you seem like a pretty decent guy. you cannot hon

  • you cannot honestly say that this is the best cgi youve ever seen. just saw the trailer for district 9 and those creature effects are way better, as are many other. just saw terminator 3 today and those cgi effects are better too, and I could go on an on.

are you really trying to tell me that they would try and sell this film by putting out a trailer with not finished rendered shots?

  • Yes, I can. I saw District 9 on Saturday and while the cgi is great, Avatar is better. And as for T3? Hell, T2 has better graphics! unfinished rendered shots in trailers are actually quite common since most trailers are made several months before the movie comes outs and before it's %100 finished. With that said, even the worst effects in the teaser is as good, if not better than the best CGI effects in recent years. Another thing, it's actually just a teaser than a full-blown trailer.

  • u r fat and ugly...dont u have any self respect???

    get laid..get a girl...in other words get a life

    Weirdo.

  • Also something to mention, I must have seen the teaser close to 50 times over the weekend in 1080p HD. Many times, I have paused the teaser and looked at it frame-by-frame, and you won't believe the high level of detail I've seen in the CGI shots. Hands down, this is the best CGI ever!

  • having detail is all well and good, but if it moves wrong its all for nothing isnt it?

  • That is very true, but here's the thing: there's nothing wrong with the way these characters move

  • oh but yes there is.. its like jar jar binx in "the phantom menace" I was actually able to spot the only shot of jar jar in that film that was not cgi but a guy in a suit. I cannot explain to you what it is the eye picks up on, but a lifetime of observing the laws of physics on an unconscious level makes most people realise instantly when somethings slightly off and I really think you see it too. maybe you just wanted this film to be a cgi breakthrough so bad youre kidding yourself

  • or maybe you are retarted. U didnt see in IMAX. The physics are 100 percent actor driven, way beyond the gollum even. It doesnt matter who u are or what you know, they will move perfectly when you see them I promise you

  • Your saying giant cockroaches than dont movie human or resemble any human qualities are better than avatar? If thats the case there is no use arguing with you and you will eat your words with a side of your disbelieve come Dec 18th

  • did you mean "that dont move like a human"??? anyways, yeah if the film looks nothing like the trailer I might eat my words come dec 18th. If I hear that it looks exactly like the trailer (which we all know it will) I wont even go see it, Ill wait and borrow the dvd from someone

  • The ones who witnessed Avatar day know the trailer does it a disservice. Even though some people still love the trailer.

  • I watch it 10 times :p I thought the trailer is fucking awesome!

  • ! Yeah !

That's what I thought when I saw it.

I had to watch it over a couple of times.

    ! CAN'T WAIT UNTIL DECEMBER !

  • Now that I've seen the preview and I'm watching your reaction to the to the online trailer...I can't wait to see your reaction after you've seen the preview.

  • I decided not to see the preview

  • Seriously, for you weirdo guys that think beards are nasty are sissies. Real men have beards.

Anyways, though, gd video bro. :)

I can't wait for Avatar. I had a spasm when I saw it in theaters when I watched D9. :P Just kdn on the spasm... ha

  • Do any of the aliens in the film have beards?

  • no, it's because I choose not to be in a relationship right now. In fact, I get a ton of compliments from women about my beard. It's one of my best features. 40's a bit much. The general consensus I get is that the beard makes me look about 7 years older, and I'm fine with that because without it I actually look more like I'm in my teens than in my 20's

  • Wait until you see footage in 3d, it's like being awake in a dream. Total immersion.

  • I am but it's not due to the beard.

  • you'd be surprised how many people actually like beards

  • Could you post your reactions to the actual 20 min clip at IMAX

  • Well I would, but in the end I didn't go see it.

  • Oh right, thats ok dude I just assumed with the reaction you had that you were going to see it.

  • I was going to, I had the tickets and everything, but after seeing the trailer, I decided that it would be best to wait until December to see the entire movie in all its 3D glory rather than just 16mins now and going crazy for the next 4 months waiting to see the rest.

  • Cool dude it was my original intention to go see it on Avatar day, though I decided to wait till its official release. It was just that I assumed by the reaction on this video you were going to view the clip as well.

  • it's a beard! what's disgusting about it?! lots of guys have beards especially with ones thicker than mine. plus, I wash it everyday so I don't think I'm going to have a problem with insects.

  • As much as i'm not looking forward to this movie, I have to give kudos for parodying twilight fans, kudos.!

  • i don't understand previews, 15 minutes of the damn film

  • NEVER!

  • I'll wait to see the 3D as it could be the best 3D ever, but as for the movie itself, looks to be a good movie, but nothing amazing.

  • nothing amazing ? james cameron biatch sorry to get mad but this is going to be a aamzing.

  • Nothing amazing as in this movie was hyped to be so photo-realistic and in the trailer at least it failed. When he smiles when he's transferred into the Na'vi... it looked like a Pixar or Disney character!

  • What do you have to base the Na'vi off of? Nothing. This is something that isn't part of your conception of reality. It is entirely alien.

  • The characters themselves weren't really going to be photo realistic. It's the planet that is going to be photo realistic, and I was completely fooled by the visuals. It's the first time in my life where I couldn't tell the different between what was real, CGI, or photo realistic. :)

  • Disappointing trailer, i thought it was a fan made wind up half way through, NOT great! Do please have a shave old chap!

  • Don't listen to these crack pots. They don't know good CGI when they see it. The detail of everything is phenomenal. I'm proud of WETA. Also, I was concerned too with what the Na'vi will look like but man, they're beautiful. This movie is going to remind us why we love movies in the first place. I mean, who doesn't love a epic movie like this?

  • i've been waiting for the trailer and when i saw it i was shocked it was so hideous and cheesy

  • I was shocked that you were delusional.

  • Um Im not really impressed, but maybe its not finished because the CGI didnt impress. Seems quite generic. I wish they could name it something else, avatar been used, and I thought it was the movie of something else, guess that annoys me.

  • regarding the title: that little cartoon show did not originate the word "avatar". It's a Hindu word basically meaning the physical representation of a being from a higher realm crossing over to a lower realm. The word fits well in the context of Cameron's story.

  • Oh ok, guess so.

  • ER WLY

  • Don't like it. Looks like a Disney cartoon.

  • Please give me an example of exactly how this movie looks like a Disney cartoon.

  • They have these big Mulan eyes and over-smoothed facial gestures. Look at the jungle scenes, they definitiely incorporate a Disney asthetics. Take a look at the colourful sky in one scene. That is what I call KITSCH.

I don't know what you call a good special effect. Yes, with James Cameron you get to see every dollar spent on the screen, that's true. But it's just not my taste. Should look dirtier.

  • Come on! You're just nitpicking and grasping at straws! The eyes?! Those must be the most photo realistic eyes I have ever seen! During some of the close ups, you can notice subtle movements of the eyes just like in real life. And the facial gestures? There's nothing smoothed about them. When you see them angry you can see realistic wrinkles and veins underneath the skin. The jungle scenes incorporate REAL aesthetics! And the colorful sky at 1:33 into the trailer is actually a planet.

  • It just goes to show how ignorant you are about this movie. The special effects are some of the best I've ever seen (and believe me, I've seen a lot) and in the next four months it will only get better and dirtier. One good example is at 1:46 into the trailer, there's an extremely brief image of Jake's Avatar soaking wet. You see it on his face and skin, and you see it on his shirt and despite it being a brief less than a second image, it's in FULL DETAIL in HD and that's what I call good F/X

  • reminds me of Attack of the clones, whats so special?

  • oh yeah! all the light sabers, clone troopers, droids, and bounty hunters in this trailer totally gives off an Attack of the Clones vibe...

  • Dude talking from CG point of view and in my opinion it's the same thing flying bots or giant grasshoppers whats the difference?

  • you are a giant giant nerd

  • why, thank you!

  • Awesome teaser. I don't think the CGI is completely finished yet. It did seem kinda cartoony at times and very obviously CGI, despite how wonderfully detailed and textured the characters were. Something just made them stand out as "not real". The CGI looks great, but something doesn't appear organic like the bugs in Starship Troopers or other CGI characters I've seen that flat out look totally real. Looking forward to seeing the final product. The movie looks very cool! Can't wait!

  • District 9 was amazing but Avatar looks amazing too either way im just glad sci fi is making a come back :)

  • I never knew it was dying out...

  • oh it was

  • Why blue elves? WHY FUCKING BLUE ELVES?

  • They're not elves! If you take a closer look at them, the Na'Vi have more feline features than anything else. Their ears are closer to a cat's ears than ones on an elf. And hell, if you all are going to bitch and moan about elf-looking aliens how about whine about Vulcans! They look much more elf-like than the Na'Vi will ever look!

  • That's actually a good point. I'm a little stumped as to why people are bashing this for having blue humanoid aliens, while everyone loved the movie with the REAL space elves (Star Trek). Not to mention the ships, weapons and vehicles are very realistic. The ship at the start was completely realistic for a spaceship. The mechs look cool as hell and the Aliens are humanoid yes, so I'm going to blame it on convergent evolution ; ).

  • Fuck Apple and their Quicktime bullshit.

  • fuck district 9 you losers avatar is gonna be much better then that lame political drama, south african keffa, aliens that look like there off pirates of the carribean bullishit haha district 9 wtf STUPID WANKERS GET FUCKED.

  • I have to say the aliens in district 9 were far more plausible from an evolutionary standpoint (they don't look anything like us) than the Na'Vi which are practically human. They are both good in their own right and are rather different movies.

  • Very dissapointed by the trailer. With all the hype they had around it, I was expecting something impressive. It looks like a cartoon!

  • I personally don't think so. I've seen the trailer more than a dozen times and there's nothing cartoony about it.

  • I was pumped for this movie but now that i've seen this I really dont care for ever watching it lol. The fact that it is however in IMAX 3D could make it amazing but I don't think anything is gonna beat Peter Jackson's District 9. That movie was incredible.

  • peter jackson didn't direct dristict 9

  • I know Niel Blomkamp did

  • the movie is supposed 2 be over the top so dont compare it to district 9 which was made 2 capture realism

  • how are u gonna say its a terrible movie if u havent seen it yet dumbass. and james cameron is one of the best mainstream directors. i mean aliens, terminator, titanic, and the list goes on

  • You're an idiot.

  • To me it looks like shit....it's mainly the blue creatures that turned me off, they look so fucking fake. Sorry but I just saw District 9 and it look way more realistic. Kinda funny considering Avatar had a 250 million dollar budget while District 9 only had a 30 million dollar budget.

  • They look fake because the cgi isn't 100% finished retard.

  • Personally, I think the Na'Vi (the blue aliens) and everything else look extremely real. I couldn't believe the level of detail that had. There were times as if it actually looked live action. Try getting the trailer in HD, pause it and look at it frame by frame and you'll see so much detail that it's not even funny.

  • Then dont go see it.. not even a glimpse okay? if on December you decide to go and see the movie, your whole family will turn blue and die.. lmao..

  • I would have to say that I aggree with you on that one. When I saw the blue creatures it kinda turned me off.... Was expecting a little more from all the hype that's been thrown around over the past 3 months but oh well.

  • Well, I just came back from District 9 and while it was a fantastic movie and the special effects are great for a 30 million dollar budget, Avatar has way better special effects. Hands down. And in the next four months, it will only get better.

  • For me the trailer looks ok... but not awasome

  • I cant play the trailer on this computer at the moment but, is this the trailer where its just a bunch plants growing and it shows earth at the end? Or is this an eactual trailer?

  • It is the actual Avatar trailer

  • Cool, thanks. I gotta see it. What is it based on? I was confused at first by the Avatar in Shamalans Airbender. One his science fiction and the other is from anime?

  • This is an original story from the mind of James Cameron.

  • Holy shit! This is the movie with Sogorny Weaver, that latin tom boy chick and I think the new terminator dude. I saw the pics at RT. Had some sick helicopter things that looked like Misqitos. And its an ORIGINAL story for a change AND from Cameron? Im going to watch the trailer now.

  • Not to mention that it will also be in IMAX 3D

  • I just watched it. Very interesting. I thought it was live-action at first then it got really cartoony. Nothing about it really blew me away and I think if this is going to be a big deal as Cameron's name and the geek-hype suggest, it has to be more to it than what this trailer is showing. Way more.

  • Well, it is just a teaser, so it wasn't going to show a lot. Just enough to whet the appetites of fanboys like me. Though, if you wanted more, you could've gotten tickets for the free 16 min preview in IMAX 3D that's happening later today.

  • No need. I'll go see it when it comes out. I guess the novelty of 3D is the films primary attraction. I doubt it will disappoint on that level. Good season for a film like this too.

  • the film is goign to be released in december

  • Um, yeah. Like I said; Good season for a film like this. I saw the DECEMBER in the trailer. Thanks though.

  • You look like Zach Galifianakis.

  • The trailer looked horrible. Stop drinking the kool-aid

  • What's wrong about it?

  • the trailer was amazing and it would be one of the greatest movies of all times and tommorow I would watch the exclusive 15 minutes of this movie on Imax 3D,you should go see it

  • WoW! That was my reaction too! It's great to see you'rs & others reaction to this. I have seen the 16 min preview & you are going to lover it!! :)

  • I've actually decided not to go. The trailer showed me everything I wanted to see for now. Plus, I kinda prefer to wait and see it in its entirety than watch just the 16min and go crazy over the next 4 months waiting to see the rest.

  • finally someone who had the same response as me & didnt do a scrutinizing comparison of it to district 9.

  • this is some of the best 3d animation around, the humans look real, i understand that the fantasy stuff is hard to make look completely realistic, but still the best i have seen to date.

  • i liked the trailer cant wait to see the movie

  • it wasnt as good as i expected too cartoony

  • I'm seeing the 15 minute preview tomorrow too! In 3D!!!!

  • Guys the only way to watch this trailer in 1080p HD on apple, it looks stunning. don't watch it on any other format, PLEASE. Also keep in mind, that this is August, and it comes out in December, and it is incomplete, not done at all. Movies like this are worked on until weeks before release. Just keep that in mind.

  • I watched it like 15 times. I was blown away.

  • My reaction was exactly the same as yours! All I could say was WOW, and I knew I had to watch it again. Someone needs to put the trailer on YouTube, and FAST!!!

  • the video online doesnt do it justice - i saw a 25 minute preview about two weeks ago in san diego - the characters in this format have no depth - they look way more convincing in 3d - so do their movements - and the quality of the digital projector was far, far better than a crappy monitor

  • a video of u sittin in dark watchin a screen.. YEAH VERY GOOD

  • It's no different than all those videos of people watching the New Moon trailer.

  • I didn't like it, it doesn't look real :( Their fingers are moving just because, and it isn't realistic.

  • You really thing they looked real? I think the movie looks pretty awesome, but I don't think the cgi looked all that real. The aliens in District 9 looked had much more realism, I think.

  • I didn't like it much, too much cartoony.

I thought it would be a lot more breathtaking. It looks more like an Imagi version of Thundercats.

  • Lol:) My reaction was similar. I cant wait to see Avatar

  • AWESOME trailer!!!!! It's completely awesome, perfect, AMAZING!! I have not words to describe it!! James Cameron is GOD!

  • lol I had the exact same reaction, that was breath taking. I was waiting so long for it and it didn't dissapoint. :P
