Plus, if it was Marcellus' soul in the briefcase, than why did Vincent completely reject Jule's divine intervention theory? I mean, after laying his own two eyes a a HUMAN SOUL, you'd think he'd be more willing to accept that a divine being could have somehow saved them.

Simply Ving Rhames who played Marsellus had a scar on the back of his neck, Quinton thought that it would distract viewers from the actual scene.........What is in the briefcase was left to the viewers imagination, Quinton was going to put diamonds in the case but thought it was too obvious. No props can compare with imagination.

I think Tarantino is playing head games by suggesting that the gold light is Brett's soul, and that also suggests that the gold light in the briefcase is also a soul. But the dialog doesn't make sense if it's a sould in the briefcase. Makes more sense if the briefcase contains heroin, and Brett screwed up by not paying Marcellus.

The briefcase contents is whats known in the film making industry as a mcGuffin, it means that the audience is kept in suspence as to what lies within because no prop guy could ever come up with an object thats better than the viewers imagination!
As for the plaster? It was used to cover a scar that the actor had which was very visable given his dark skin and the scar being much lighter and it bothered quintin so makeup came up with a quick fix as they were unable to cover it!
Also, in this scene, Vincent is looking in the top cabinets for the suitcase, then when of the guys in the room says "No it's in the cabinet down by your feet." This could symbolize that his soul was closer to hell.

Tarantino planned on using diamonds but thought it boring. Though many think it's supposed to be the diamonds from RD, the other top theory is that it's a tiny nuclear device, whch Tarantino liked when he heard that theory. He wouldn't really know what a nuclear device, a soul, the holy grail were at a glance.

As for the band-aid, Ving Rahms sufferd a small cut just before shooting and Quentin decided against adding make up to disguise the cut in favour of adding a band-aid because it made less sense and added another confusing element to the film.

My theory??? I've seen the movie multiple times and have come to the conclusion that it's the souls of those killed by Marcellus Wallace or by those who work FOR him. My guess is that Marcellus himself represents the devil incarnate. Notice when Jules shoots Brett a orange glow -- similar to the glow from the briefcase -- is emitted. Also, Marcellus himself has a similar glow when talking to Butch. Last thing: Jules describes what's in the briefcase as his boss's "dirty laundry."

The orange bulb inside shining light onto the faces was a last-minute decision. On Howard Stern Tarantino was asked the contents and said "It's whatever the viewer wants it to be."
I still think what was going through his mind was that the case contained something like the holy grail. Not specifically that necessarily, but something that would awe any mere mortal that gazed upon it. A mere earthly treasure would not have such an effect as the item in the case suggests.
That it will remain a mystery, however, will always be the best, I think.

No where does it say that when the devil takes your soul he takes it from the back of your head. Tarantino and the producer decided that the contents of the case would never be specified and that it would be whatever the viewer decided it would be. Quote "No prop master can come up with something better than each individual's imagination." Then one person decided to put a lightbulb inside the case which is now a decision regretted by Tarantino and Roger Avary. There is no right or wrong answer.

The briefcase contents is whats known in the film making industry as a mcGuffin, it means that the audience is kept in suspence as to what lies within because no prop guy could ever come up with an object thats better than the viewers imagination!
As for the plaster? It was used to cover a scar that the actor had which was very visable given his dark skin and the scar being much lighter and it bothered quintin so makeup came up with a quick fix as they were unable to cover it!

Also, in this scene, Vincent is looking in the top cabinets for the suitcase, then when of the guys in the room says "No it's in the cabinet down by your feet." This could symbolize that his soul was closer to hell.

Tarantino planned on using diamonds but thought it boring. Though many think it's supposed to be the diamonds from RD, the other top theory is that it's a tiny nuclear device, whch Tarantino liked when he heard that theory. Though the fact that Tim Roth knew what it was kinda kills off every theory in my opinion except the diamond one. He wouldn't really know what a nuclear device, a soul, the holy grail were at a glance.

Another thing that might point out that it is his soul is that the man Samuel Jackson is playing is really interested in Ezekial 25-17 and he really wants to give up his life style. Nobody knows whats in the briefcase because nobody is supposed to know... thats what makes it interesting, its whatever we want it to be.
As for the band-aid, Ving Rahms sufferd a small cut just before shooting and Quentin decided against adding make up to disguise the cut in favour of adding a band-aid because it made less sense and added another confusing element to the film.

whats in the briefcase is obviously gold.they just wanted to spark our interest by not showing it,and no master propsman could ever make valuables that desireable on screen so they made this subtle effect with the orange light.the whole movie is filled with filmic references this is obviously from KIss me Deadly.

This is not at all the video makers own analysis. This theory has been e-mailed around for years.
Nowhere in the bible it says that the devil takes your soul from the back of your head.
Like GBev2K said, Tarantion has claimed that the content of the briefcase is a MacGuffin. The viewer can make up his own theory.
All that aside, this is a cool theory, and it is just as "right" as any other!

i like the soul theory better than any other. it does make sense and there is a lot of little hidden things in the movie that support that theory. it gives the movie much deeper meaning. maybe tarintino sold his soul and dedicated this movie to the devil. it did make him a huge superstar. anyone else notice that the game of life and operation are both in the background when they get the adrenaline shot? the movie's full of little stuff like that.

My theory??? I've seen the movie multiple times and have come to the conclusion that it's the souls of those killed by Marcellus Wallace or by those who work FOR him. My guess is that Marcellus himself represents the devil incarnate. Notice when Jules shoots Brett a orange glow -- similar to the glow from the briefcase -- is emitted. Also, Marcellus himself has a similar glow when talking to Butch. Last thing: Jules describes what's in the briefcase as his boss's "dirty laundry."

Tarantino has said that the bandaid had nothing to do with an allusion to the Devil stealing Marsellus' soul, but that Ving Rhames had a scar on the back of his neck he wanted to cover up. According to Roger Avary, who co-wrote the script with QT, the original plan was to have the briefcase contain diamonds. The orange bulb inside shining light onto the faces was a last-minute decision. On Howard Stern Tarantino was asked the contents and said "It's whatever the viewer wants it to be."

I still think what was going through his mind was that the case contained something like the holy grail. Not specifically that necessarily, but something that would awe any mere mortal that gazed upon it. A mere earthly treasure would not have such an effect as the item in the case suggests.
That it will remain a mystery, however, will always be the best, I think.

No where does it say that when the devil takes your soul he takes it from the back of your head. Tarantino and the producer decided that the contents of the case would never be specified and that it would be whatever the viewer decided it would be. Quote "No prop master can come up with something better than each individual's imagination." Then one person decided to put a lightbulb inside the case which is now a decision regretted by Tarantino and Roger Avary. There is no right or wrong answer.
