just buy a box filter instead of a cone get the k&n filter that fits in your air box drill 3 to 4 holes in the bottom depending on which size so your getting cold air into the engine instead of hot air which is a problem with cone filter , its effects the performance :)
yeah i got cheap filter and maf is gone now ;DD gona get new 1 tomorrow for 100£ filter was 20 £ :d whats beter use original filter and save extra 100£? or use cheap and fuck ur car? :) good lession for me :)
You have to know which Alfa Romeo to buy to get quality. Depends on the year. Yes, not always good quality, but they have got a soul. I can tell that you are not informed. Anyways, who talks about quality? This Corsas sounds clike crap.
Well done for slowing your car down with that piece of junk. Surface area is about 2ft and holes huge - use a paper element of 13ft surface area and holes small enough to filter. A paper element passes more air than the engine can use at 7000rpm. The filter housing is designed to create a vacuum and pull air in and increase the speed of it. Learn how engines work.
@urbex2007 hes got a 1.4 8valve its not goin to make any difference if he has a standard airbox or cone filter ur not goin to see any gains either way. apart from intake noise. just sounds a bit better keep it on and enjoy the induction noise pal! :)
@Laofse You have to know which Alfa Romeo to buy to get quality. Depends on the year. Yes, not always good quality, but they have got a soul. I can tell that you are not informed. Anyways, who talks about quality? This Corsas sounds clike crap.
K&N intakes are a lot better then the stock box ones, but i think its important that u atleast put your headshield on if your going to run a short ram set up.
And "urbex2007", K&N filters actually do a great job filtering (96-98% effective) and has MUCH less air restriction then a stock intake. and i have never looked up that it can cause damage to your sensor, but i have never heard of anyone running into that problem with these intakes before.
Yes, that will be K&N, oil and MAF sensors do not mix. I had a bill for £200 for a new one after trying a K&N panel in a turbo diesel car. K&N *DO* damage cars by NOT FILTERING to the required standard or that of a paper element. Never put them near anything with a turbo, the blades go pitted over time. Plenty of others have found this too and I got ***MORE POWER*** using a standard air filter and housing. A K&N element is NOT a filter if you care to look in an ENGLISH dictionary.
*WRONG* A K&N has a very small surface area of a few feet, a paper element has 11ft. K&N doesn't FILTER so allows your engine to be shotblasted inside. Oil damages MAF sensors. The original car air filter housing and filter pass far more air than the engine can use at maximum RPM. Please learn about engines, vacuum, velocity, filtration etc and why the housing and pipes are a certain shape. You obviously haven't a clue about cars or engines and fell for the boy racer sales talk from K&N. Loser
Where is your proof? K&N matches the diameter of your stock intake but shapes it so it can enter more directly. And as far as the filters, there is TONS of proof saying just the opposite of what your saying. K&N uses cotton for there filters where as the stock intake uses paper wich has MUCH more restriction. They are diff matirials so you cant compair surface area. and as far as the oil, this is true, but only if there is to much. Problem is people add to much oil to there filter whenreusing it
WOW, make your car noisier and DECREASE performance by sucking hot air in from around the engine. The K&N dosn't filter properly nd will break your MAF sensor. Waste of time and waste of money.
Mine (VW Golf 1.6 16V) is without maf so I dont know about that one; but I idsagree about the filtering, it seems to do its job, I am sure they use good quality materials and technology , research, etc.
I agree on the hot air thing, it only has good performance when temperature is below 20Celsius and engine is ventilated better.
Agreed. Well if a CAI is done CORRECTLY (headshield ect) on a performance engine it can increase performance. On a stock motor, and you just rip the airbox out and wack in a pod, no heatshield, you'll loose an epic amount of power and torque and your engine will overheat..
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
But most boy racers do not have "performance cars". They fit these stupid K&N things to a 1litre Corsa and start shouting "it's got loads of power" and lie so they don't look idiots at being ripped off. Boy racers simply do not know anything about engines or their design. How many have a REMAP to add extra fuel for the extra air they say is going in? NONE. They confuse NOISE with power.
Leave them to it, the rest of us just laugh at them! Some even fit resistors in parallel with the MAF!!!!!
a remap is unnescersary when fitting a high flow filter to an engine with a MAF sensor, though i agree with you that these are merely ascetic and sound mods when applied to small engines.
@monkeyswithcameras well u do have to let the car battery sit disconnected for 5-10mins and then rehook it up and start ur car for the MAF sensor to properly recognize the new air flow. My air filter fell off once and I started my car up without resetting my battery and it kept almost stalling on me at first until I drove it for a bit.
@monkeyswithcameras Pontiac Bonneville 2003 SLE model. Well it did the engine sputters on start up at the first few red lights, kinda like the engine didjt pull in enough air and like "gasped" i guess u could call it, not really sputtered. After like 2 red lights it was fine but I went home and reset it just to be safe, and after just those few times yea it worked fine afterwards. it was like a split half second where the engine just sounded like tehre were no RPMs at all.
only happened once, all my gauges on start up are normal. Idk never happened again and its been running fine ever since. I'll look into it if anything else weird happens definitely.
hahaha. what's the use of short ram if it sucking all the hot air from the engine.
aikerz07 3 months ago
might change the sound but performance wise it wouldnt increase at all... if anything it could decrease your performance hence the small engine

If you stay away from the cheap filters, you will be okay, it's the cheap ones that can damage the sensor, because of the heavy oiling.

what kind or car do you have?
sounds more like you got an air gap after the MAF
the computer shouldn't need reseting or at least not on anything ive worked on
did it run properly after you reset it just out of interest?
ive never come across that before.

thats odd.
does your dash display any fault codes when you start it up?
e.g does the little orange light that looks like an engine flash when you start then engine?
if it does you could take it to a garage and for about £20 theyl put it on the diagnostic machiene an they can tell you exactly what caused it.
oh infact you reset it didnt you..
well if it hapens again might be an idea to get it checked.
beter do that then find its a simple fault which could cause more damage if left un resolved.
