The reason why this movie didn't get much commercial success is obscure to me. I think the subject and theme are essentially Italian and reflect the Milanese atmosphere with accuracy- hyperreastical. It is definetely fractured and Celentano is the only common thread that links all episodes together. the political message that it imparts is valid especially today. I hate to say this, but I agree with Argento, the American public wouldn't have understood this film.
Well, this is Dario Argento's most personal (non-thriller) film he has made right before he made PROFONDO ROSSO (1975). It's such a shame that this film has never been released outside of Italy (including the USA) because Argento (in a interview) said this film was very Italian and he wanted to make this for his native country. Anyway, VhsStore has this film on VHS & DVD, if you're looking for it. :)
Just makes one wonder if this was the kind of film Dario Argento wanted to do after his Animal trilogy of giallo thrillers. All I heard that ironically this wasn't well recieved and Argento returned to the giallo and it seemed he took the semi-comical violence from this film and made something even meaner which became Deep Red. The rest they say is history.
