  • Proud to be french...sometimes.

  • Pierre Degeyter;, born in Ghent (Gent), Belgium. In the front of the MIAT Museum in Ghent stand monument.

  • @JUGAopet1 The original French words were written in June 1871 by Eugène Pottier (1816–1887, previously a member of the Paris Commune)[1] and were originally intended to be sung to the tune of La Marseillaise.[2] Pierre De Geyter (1848–1932) set the poem to music in 1888.[3] His melody was first publicly performed in July 1888[4] and became widely used soon after. • I do like Billy Bragg's English version, but it works better in French (even though I don't speak the language, I have an idea of what it means, which obviously helps).

  • Bel accent en tout cas XD

  • Workers of the world unite. Most of us championing this idea are NOT thinking communism. We are thinking workers' rights and protection. Period.

  • @mallducklard I am firmly in favor of private property and free enterprise, because these institutions offer the best prospect for workers to control the means of production.

  • Those who never move never notice their chains.

    ~Karl Marx

  • Communism Now !

  • Solidarity, comrades!

  • What he lacks in French, he makes up for in commitment and enthusiasm.

  • ADELANTE EEUU TOS EN UNO OBREROS VAMOS VAMOS VAMOS OBREROS DEL MUNDO QUE RAZA MAS GRANDE

  • i love pete but he did support solidarity Reagan and Thatchers Union--those bastards scabbed on the British miners in 84

  • The highest point of progressive Enlightenment thinking: socialism

  • Long live Pete Seeger!

  • remarkable in the most difficult place in the world to be a socialist he got to the steps of the white house to sing at obamas inauguration ,wonder what sarah palin made of that .well done pete

  • Thank you for sharing! The words are spot on, even for today!

  • Now there are 4 teabaggers.

I well remember the days when Pete was blacklisted and the only places he could perform were in schools and on PBS. Now he's a national treasure. I'm not sure whether this is progress or hypocrisy, probably a bit of both. Anyway, it's great to know that there is at least one of us from those days who hasn't completely sold out.

(BTW, did you know he quit the Weavers when they did a cigarette commercial?)

  • @MaiHarinder He sure is a true fighter! He's 92 years old and doesn't let the age stop him from fighting for the truth Both him and Alo went to the Occupy Wall Street-demonstrations.

  • @SirSharon He is certainly one of my role models. I have been a social activist for nearly 50 years and he has always been there with a smile on his face and love in his heart.

  • @MaiHarinder He really is one of those people that gives us hope for a better future!

  • Who is the one idiot who dislikes this!

  • @MaiHarinder prolly a teabagger

  • @KataVideo lol, prolly!

  • 2 uatwmf-Ya, this is an awesome song! But the proletariat has everything to lose, not just his chains. We must define the proletariat as humans stripped of their humanity. The unemployed must be considered proletarians, as well as unpaid domestic laborers, etc. This proletariat faces the threat of being genetically engineered for better production, the threat of decaying in a destroyed enviroment, being used as an excuses to mistreat immigrants. Proletarians, unite, you have EVERYTHING TO LOSE!

  • Pete is awesome!!!

  • This song is as important now as it was back in the day, even more so.

  • Awful, awful, awful accent, but that somehow makes it better. I love the interspersion with English. (You can tell that he didn't listen to it much in French because it doesn't flow like it should)

  • I've never heard Pete Seeger sing in French before! As a Québécois and a lover of Seeger's work (and the Internationale), this is a really special recording for me. Thanks so much for uplaoding it. It's fabulous.

  • This is now my second-favorite rendering of the song, after the one done by Soul Flower Mononoke Summit (look it up),

  • Well Pete's accent is not so good but he has a great heart

    Vive Pete"

  • GREAT SONG!!!!

    100/5

  • Terrible French accent!

  • that's not a problem, that's rather cool in fact.

  • Vive l'Amérique de Pete Seeger !

  • You say the same thing on every channel you visit. Whose opinions do you echo so thoughtlessly?

  • Hiroes i'r gweithwyr/wragedd! Rhagom i Gymru Rydd Gymraeg

  • Long Live the International !!!!!!!!!!!

  • When I was 5 years old, I was asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" As I was 5, I told the truth, "I want to be a Working Class Hero." My rather wealthy parents were amused and thereafter, this became my theme song in the family.

Now I am 57, no hero, perhaps, Working Class or otherwise, but this is dstill my theme song. "Oh, my friend, we're older but no wiser, for in our hearts, the dreams are still the same."

Perhaps some dear comrade will translate this into French, please.

  • @simayana

    Part 2 :

Here is the French version of your text dear comrade

  • @simayana

    Part 1 :

Lorsque javais 5 ans on ma demandé, « Quest-ce que tu veux devenir quand tu seras grand ? ».

  • fantastic, pete damn he is good. he can sing in almost all languages.

  • Very moving
