When I watched this on UK TV a few years back they had superimposed blood splats on the screen as the people died, they are not present in this clip!!!
Wow. Allowing for multiple shots of the same coaches leaving the bridge deck and then crashing into the girders below, I counted at least nine (9) full size coaches go over the edge and crash. There were at least three more that braked to safety and did not crash -- that's 12 coaches minimum. a single little wimpy diesel as the one portrayed could never pull that many cars at passenger train speeds, in mountains no less. And... It must have cause model-train builder Marklin a fortune!!
The crash sequence made this the most shocking disaster movie of the seventies - appropriately R rated. The Italians pulled no punches with their endings.
@MrMariofan7 The railroad branch the train was travelling on was out of use. Earlier in the film there was a debate between the officials over whether the bridge was safe to cross for a train.
wow..this is truly a suck ass flic...bad visuals..lt truly looked like a toy train on a toy bridge....bad shit...way to go Jerry accepting another bad ass flic....
Great thriller from the 1970's Both Richard Harris and Sophia Loren are great in The Cassandra Crossing a suspense actioner directed by the late George P. Cosmatos who later directed Rambo: First Blood PT.2 & Tombstone. I wish there ought to be a remake of that classic. Imagine Brendan Fraser & Kate Beckinsale in that movie it'll be so cool.
There's actually a blooper in this movie here. When the train was transfered to a diesel locomotive in the early part of the movie, take note. They never uncoupled the electric locomotive. The diesel was just "tacked" onto the end of it. However in the accident, there's no electric engine.
What are a few compared to the many. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. For the greater good. Might makes right. Voluntary compulsion is necessary. Terrorism is justified.
Thank you for your response. I only said that was Eifel's style because I was not quite shure if the bridge was real... Here in Porto we have a similar bridge design by Eifel: Ponte D. Maria.
Why on Earth would the Americans arrange to send a train load of plague carriers into Poland and the Eastern block? I would figure the last thing they would want is for a potential enemy to get their hands on a disease like that.
And of coarse, why would any country allow such a potential threat into their borders?
No. By the time the train reached the bridge almost all of the passengers were cured by the pure oxygen that was generated throughout the train. They just split the train into two pieces because half a train would have a better chance of making it across because the weight would be much lighter.
@DisasterFlicks Reason they split the train in half was because they knew (the old guy who blew up the diner car at least) that the whole train would NEVER make it over. However the only place they could uncouple was at the diner car. Ironic it may be, but by pulling that cut off he should have caused the WHOLE train to go into emergency brake and stop well before the bridge.
This movie game me nightmares as a kid. The creepy music, the light that goes out on the train board, the Nazi death camp angle. Funny that I still find it creepy 30-some years later.
The engine is still under theleg of the bridge not in the water at 2:25

Moral of this story is don't operate trains on poorly maintained bridges. What happened between 1:23-2:35 will be the result.

@ualien42
Terrorists sneaked some sort of stolen bio-weapon onboard, and the U.S. government let the train crash purposely to hide the evidence.

Try the train crash from the movie SILVER STREAK, it's about a runaway train that crashes though the station wall.

I got this on DVD the other day, and watched it yesterday. I remembered it from my childhood. Great film!
For some reason, I seemed to remember the bit where they seal the train as being the ending of the film, which of course it isn't.
The train crash bit is pretty gruesome to watch even today.

The real moral of this story is, is that first class passengers are upper-class filth who must be destroyed at any cost! It's the class war gone mad.

My question is, where the people in the front infected? and the ones in the back healthy o.o?
leavenworthkd 2 years ago
No. By the time the train reached the bridge almost all of the passengers were cured by the pure oxygen that was generated throughout the train. They just split the train into two pieces because half a train would have a better chance of making it across because the weight would be much lighter.
DisasterFlicks 2 years ago 4
Okay, but could they stop the train before they got on the bridge?
leavenworthkd 2 years ago
Probably not.
A fully loaded locomotive requires a few miles before the cars can come to a complete stop.
Of course, there must also be reason why they couldn't stop well before they would get to the bridge.
That's a good reason why we'd have to see the whole movie to see exactly why.
Watcher3223 2 years ago
Only a few people know of the deteriorated state of the bridge.
BVictor21 2 years ago
No because armed guards that were put aboard were preventing them from stopping the train.
