I just watched an episode of this and... I'm impressed. There is a devolving/ hinted relationship between Scarlet and Snake eyes. Snake eyes’ back story is pretty good. And you really get a feel for the character of Snake eyes even though he can't talk. Some animators depend on dialogue for characterization, but these guys got it right. Watch an episode or 2, it's pretty awesome.

I just watched Hub and their "new" GI Joe and its not new at all, its the 80's re runs. I just watched pt 2 of the Weather Dominator series so Im definitely happy that Hub didnt go through with their original plan. But if they did and I dont know it then Im glad that they show the classic re runs anyway

I've read that 'Renegades' is gonna have the guts to preserve the Snake Eyes/Scareltt storyline from the comics which is a first for animation, so I'm totally cool with it. Judging from all the thumbs up my comments are getting on this page I can see that many others agree with me.

Looks like that "monster" is actually called a Bio Viper. I saw some pictures of the characters in this cartoon, and he, or it, was amongst them. I guess it'll be some kind of genetically engineered mutant trooper. Wierd...but this is Cobra, after all. Anyway, I would have prefered a more realistic animation style, perhaps something a bit closer to the classic cartoon, yet with a grittier, darker storyline.

The 80's Sunbow cartoon and "Resolute" totally butchered his character, changing or ignoring his backstory and destroying his romance with Scarlett, pairing her with Duke instead. Let's hope this series corrects that mistake, especially regarding his relationship with Scarlett.
@SonicPAJ Well, you have probably already found out that "Renegades' has nothing to do with the ROC movie, thank god. As for the "romance stuff," name one comic book series or sci-fi/action adventure saga that didn't have one. There's a reason Larry Hama came up with the Snake Eyes/Scarlett romance. Some of the comic's most compelling stories came as a result of their relationship, something that was sorely lacking in the film and the original cartoons. GI JOE is hollow without them.

There is no Snake Eyes/Scarlett/Duke triangle because Scarlett was never paired with Duke at all in the comics, only with Snake Eyes. Does anyone consider the 80's cartoon versions of Spider Man or Batman canon? No. Cartoonists do what's convenient for them, not what is consistant with the established storylines.

@44excalibur I'll quit mentioning the similarity when people quit with this Team Duke/Team Snake Eyes crap. Who really gives a damn anyway? There was no 80's Batman cartoon. The series from the 90's had some of it added to canon though. Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends was a terrible show. Had it acheived the same as BTAS, I'm sure some of it may have made it into cannon.
Didn't know the Zland writers were onboard, hopefully we'll get some quality, but probably not.

Basically all I'm saying is, the Joe cartoon was defineitly memorable and popular so I believe some of what was done in it should be respected, at least a little. To be honest, it's hard for me to debate against the superiority Hama's run. They were some of my first comics.

Like I said, 80's cartoons did a lot of silly things. And I actaully did like the 'MASS Device' stotyline, but the GI JOE cartoon kinda went downhill for me from there. They never matched that first mini-series.

Larry Hama always expressed frustration with cartoon series and the expectation for him to try and match his comic storyline somewhat to the cartoon's continuity to the point where he stopped watching it altogether. The Cobra-La storyline was even worse than Serpentor, in my opinion.

Warren Ellis admitted he knew nothing about the comics when he wrote it and it shows. I've stated before that separating Snake Eyes and Scarlett diminishes both characters' depth, which is what happened in the original series. Duke is merely a clone of Hawk. A lot of 80's cartoons made bad choices that should not be built upon.

@Rampagelil Of course! Comics creator Larry Hama was always frustrated by the Duke character because he had no backstory and was seen as being interchangable with Hawk. The only reason Duke was created for the cartoon was because Hasbro didn't like Hama creating a character code-named 'Hawk' due the the "political implications" of that name, if you can believe that.

Only Scarlett has ever seen him without his mask, but you do see a single frame of his horrible facial scars in the issue(don't remember the issue number) right before he underwent corrective surgery. He now looks pretty normal -- six-foot-two, blonde hair and blue eyes -- except for a single thin scar that runs diagonally across his face. Is Snake Eyes sexy? Ask Scarlett, she would know. =)

The only reason Duke was created for the cartoon was because Hasbro didn't like Hama creating a character code-named 'Hawk' due the the "political implications" of that name, if you can believe that.

@partymonster411 Yeah, and they changed the explanation again. Instead of the helicopter accident Snake Eyes and Scarlett were in, the episode says that he was hit in the throat with a shuriken thrown by Stom Shadow. At least it's not that "vow of silence" nonsense.

big fan of the classic sunbow series, resolute blew me away, not sure about the animation style on this series but if the writing is good then it might be worth watching.

@SuperOwl33 Actually, you do see Snake Eyes' face in the Marvel comics series. Only Scarlett has ever seen him without his mask, but you do see a single frame of his horrible facial scars in the issue(don't remember the issue number) right before he underwent corrective surgery. He now looks pretty normal -- six-foot-two, blonde hair and blue eyes -- except for a single thin scar that runs diagonally across his face. Is Snake Eyes sexy? Ask Scarlett, she would know. =)
