  • amazing song

  • I believe he is singing about his fans or to his fans

  • The lyrics... it's one of the most beautiful love songs ever. Or maybe it isn't love, dunno, but just a strong relationship. He sees that girl being so fragile, knows how it feels, as he's been there before. He's fallen apart, can't be fixed, and knows she's gonna do that too if he fails to prevent her. Must have been so fuckin desperate, recognizing the symptoms of the decay, seeing her slipping and falling lower and lower just like it's happened to him. Hope he's healed her... and himself too.

  • I recorded this to VHS when it aired and I remember it was Johnny Depp that introduced them, seconds before the start of your vid.

  • notice how it echos "the Fragile:. Many echos here...brilliant/ Best album ever!

  • It's hard to believe that music this good was on the VMA's

  • I cant describe how perfect this is

  • week end , auuch!!

  • Bet them birds on double bass are thinkin "Fuck we're on stage with Trent Reznor".

ON a different note it is most definately my favourite album of all time. All day everyday vibe.

  • hands down the best album of the 90's. ok computer and aenima close behind

  • @shaft478 TDS > This

  • 1,111 likes. magical

  • 24 people let her fall apart...

  • Still remember the day this premiered. I was 13 then and loved it and still do even more 11 years later! NIN.

  • The best rock album in existance. Tell me to listen to more music, tell me otherwise, but as far as I'm concerned, no other album can I appreciate the artistic side of it while either relating or refraining from relating to simultanously. Reznor has this way to dig deep into your mind, and The Fragile was the magnum opus of his talents.

  • I love how in NIN videos the description most of the time says "Trent +action+something "

  • I remember watching this live! Mmmm Trent!

  • spacemutt,..have you ever lived through any traumatic event? If you had you would not be so critical. Then again, spacemutt????

  • The lyrics ruin this album. He spent all that time crafting the music, it's too bad the lyrics were all either unremarkable or embarrassing. It's the type of "poetry" fat, melodramatic goth slobs write in junior high.

  • Reznor seems to be desconfortable singing look in up everytime. 1:44 LOL

  • has anyone read the review for the album by pitchfork media? 2/10. read the whole thing and rage your ass off or laugh it off as incompetant critique. either way i haven't read anything that dumb EVER.

  • @bigstabby What a fucking knob. Not having that one little bit. NIN are my favourite band and 'The fragile' my favourite album. You're right i don't know whether to throw the laptop or laugh as though South Park is on.

  • @Eukenuba Yep. Don't quite understand how that guy has a job doing this. Though he probably felt pretty stupid when all the other positive reviews started rolling in.lol

  • @bigstabby Yeah apart from all music which was 3/5, they're all at or over 4/5. What an idiot it's a beautifully constructed and well thought out album.

If the dickhead would have chosen to realise it's a concept album and the concept is "things falling apart". 'the day teh whole world went away' was about his grandma who recently passed. The whole review is just a load of unimformed bullshit.

Haha i wa going crazy onfacebook after i read it.

  • @Eukenuba Yeah I almost thought it was a joke at first.lol It seemed more like he was trying to express his own "high standard" of music, by saying "oooh look at me everyone, I said controversial things about NIN. Make me a popular critic". How anybody can listen to this album and laugh is beyond me.

  • NIN's best album....just a little better than the Downward Spiral. This was a great show.

  • well, minus the MTV deal, at least they have some bad ass lights!

  • Love this video

  • they define the new millenniums rock music

  • Where was I for this?!?!?!

  • Is it just me or does Trent look nervous? He usually doesn't.

  • @xxkarate It was his first tv live performance

  • Lol that aint no emo, they are metal... classic metal mofo no go play with Britney's muckhole.

  • @leNOIRfae its industrial, metal is black sabath and iron maiden

  • Johnny Depp introduced them :O) I remembered this well

  • 3:09

  • Хрупкая

    (The Fragile)

  • Trent looks incredible here.

  • NIN sound better live than in their records for most part, based on my experience seeing them live last August...

  • Haven't seen this since it first aired. Still as great as I remember it.

  • I still remember how deeply affected I was by this. Easily my favourite moment of live performance ever.

  • i hope all those new emo-kids know this by heart!!! i'm 32 and i grew up with this!! this is just great music!!!!!!!

  • emo kids??.....

  • nine inch nails is the farthest thing from emo

  • @akny3xpress

    its just emotional :)

    @leNOIRfae

Its : Industrial Rock , Industrial Metal

  • @akny3xpress

    Thank YOU!

Anybody that thinks so is a fu.cking retard that clearly doesn't know the history, discography and genre that represents altogether the greatness of Nine Inch Nails!

  • @akny3xpress well, i definetly wouldnt say the farthest but their still not emo

  • @akny3xpress it is emo in the sense that it is the most emotional music around, but in the modern sense of the word emo you are absolutely right.

  • @akny3xpress well, emo is short for emotional, so i'd say nine inch nails is the closet thing :)

  • @Bostonian91 Touche, but you know what i mean.

  • @akny3xpress Yeah true, i was just being awkward lol

  • i miss seeing danny lohner on stage, he is cool as fuck

  • this performance made me fall in love with nine inch nails..

  • dude that is cool. I just said the same thing, when I was 14 I saw this and recorded it and went and bought every nin album

  • this entire album is probably the most original work to come out in that entire decade

  • @bastardblack1969

    so fucking true

  • @bastardblack1969

im a pure hip hop head but for some reason nine inch nails is in my top 3 of favorite artists/groups and the fragile in my opinion is the most complete album of the decade

  • @bastardblack1969 It came from the next decade. It was released in 2000

  • @bastardblack1969 Im disagree this albums is the best of all times, even better than beatles

  • @bastardblack1969 And very underrated. Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead are my favourite bands.

  • @bastardblack1969 right on brother. The echoing theme never leaves you.

  • I think that was a Les Paul Standard Gold Top Robin is playing I almost had my 1st seizure with all the flashing and poor video quality trying to get a closer look at it anyways awesome guitar.

  • and all of u talking about him like he would be gary barlow or some other asshole...those green eyes....my ass, fuck u all

  • He's got gorgeus eyes

  • Just to set the record strait (like it matters, it's about the music). He was addicted to speed balling. Cocaine and heroin. From the 90's up to the the Fragile's last tours, he was using.

Now he is clean, and has been since 2002. I know, I had a chance to meet him and talk to him about it. It was fuckin surreal!

  • Such a haunting song... Did Trent write it for a real woman (or just make it up in his head)?

  • LOL Trent looks so young. When was it? 1970? :D

    Love that song.

  • @enoschadz Late 90's early 00's lol and he does look so young!!!!! LOOOOOONG TIME AGO!!!!!!!!!

  • does anyone know if he is making a new album

  • 2 new albums out this year

  • They stopped, as far as I know..

  • Yeah he is. He's keeping it under wraps tho, no details as to what it is exactly...

  • MTV = Starfuckers

  • lol you can tell he's stoned.

  • yep.those pretty green eyes look just a lil' bit big.

  • ok, haters need to get over this. trent will carry on a legacy and he will do it sober. i would not want him to perish like others in the music field. he is a beautiful spirit and will live on. trent, go live and be happy with your lil queenie!!

  • Trent is now old, ex-buff, sober, and done touring.............it happens.

  • but his music lives on..

  • always will.

  • Trent got sober in 2001.

He used heroin sporadically in 1994 during the Downward Spiral recordings and hated it.

And if you knew anything about H then you'd know that the way Trent's performing in this vid goes against everything heroin does to you.

  • Actually, it wasn't heroin Trent used. It was cocaine. And as for this video, I think he's just kinda caught up in the moment and not really knowing what to make of it more than being under the influence of a drug. But hey, only Trent would know for sure.

  • He does admit to his heroin use in the 1994 interview disc 'Disturbed'. Its an unofficial release where he talks about touring and making the DS album but you can buy it.

He says, "...and I experimented around with Heroin this year. But my overall view of the drug is that its just too shitty."

I'm not surprised at all that he did blow. That's like candy to most of these guys.

  • Comment removed

  • Is there anywhere I can download this version? I absolutely love it! Thanks.

  • He's so tempted to scream on that first chorus.

  • you can tell Trent is sober here!

    XD

  • he wasnt yet

  • well he still did drugs but at this performance he looks sober.

  • hey is robin the guitarist in this one. i saw danny, but the other dosent really look like robin

  • yes it is, he just cut his hair is all.

  • It's Robin.

  • yea he is 3:52 on through hes visibly there

  • So that's how he did it - tambarine on floor tom!!!! awesome.

  • I remember seeing this that night it was first time i heard it...Although I wish they had played Were in this together now instead i still love this song and performance...

  • he is so off his guts, I'm guessing x or coke :)

  • id say it was probably h, that was his drug

  • coke for sure,,!!!1 lol

  • This performance officially approved by John McCain! lol

  • LOL

  • I also love the face in the background and the lighting, it just matches with the epic nature of the song. I can't believe that was 10 years ago, I still have the performance from the first time live on tape.

  • I wonder how many of the other performers in the audience watching said to themselves," So that's how it's done."?

One of my favorite MTV performances ever!

  • i remember waiting all day to see this ten years ago. was very unexpected to see an artist perform a brand new song that nobody has never heard before. especially odd for MTV . loved it and miss those days.

  • that was awesome

  • wtf is with the giant beams.

  • One of the best VMA performances ever.

  • this is the song that made me a fan 12 years ago...thank you for posting...

  • so you were a fan 2 years before the song was released?

  • ahahahahaha

  • I can remember a commercial coming on one day when I was about ten or eleven advertising the release of The Downward Spiral deluxe edition, and my mom turned the channel immediately because it was playing the "Closer" video. She was like, "You can't listen to Nine Inch Nails, it'll scare you!" She took me to see them for my birthday this year. WIN. xD

  • yeah 99, i was 11. I just remember staring at the TV in utter awe. "This is the coolest thing I have ever seen" to quote Butthead, but that was until I saw them live six years later. but this is still awesome

  • Dammit, why was I too young to watch MTV when they actually played MUSIC?!

  • I ask myself that all the time. *sigh*

  • he looks so scared lol

  • this is from the '99 vma's! i used to watch it over and over again cause this song is so excellent!

  • I love that little laugh he did. SOOO SEXY!

  • Wait...MTV used to play music? Huh, who knew...

  • he looks better with long hair but he still does good music

  • great performance, trent really is a badass

  • Fuckin' awesome perfomance! I wish i could see NIN live at least once in my life

    :(

  • october 4th of 2008, they came to Chile.

Unfortunately, it will be a long time until they tour again...

AND THEY NEVER PLAYED "AND ALL THAT COULD HAVE BEEN" OR "THE PERFECT DRUG"

  • Yup, and they came to Mexico too! It was so fuckin' near from my house but i couldn't go... i'm being positive and i'm hoping i can see NIN live, even tho i'll have to wait for a looong time

  • They've never played The Perfect Drug live and they never will either. I think it's because the drum part in the middle is too complicated to pull off live.

  • that, and trent kinda hates that song.

  • or "I'm Looking Forward to Joining you, Finally"

  • i love how they have the tambourine on the floor tom so that glass breaking sound is still there

  • i remember when i first saw this as the new song at the time. Loved it.

  • love trent hes my hero

  • I'm seeing Nine Inch Nails in 10 days. Really can't fuckin wait. Just compeltely love Trent and his work.

  • the show in greece ended 1 hour ago...great one NIN ownz

  • I absoultely LOVE this performance.. it is most definitely one of my favourite NIN moments. I am off to see them live in london TONIGHT! can not wait

  • really can't wait for NIN to hit Singapore in August. Less than a month now. Its getting Closer.

  • Haha. Nice play on words.

  • Soooo happy he played this in Sydney!! It was worth the ten year wait!

  • Probably my favorite song by them and so far my favorite live video of them doing it. Thanks for putting it up.

  • Anyone know where I can download this? It's such a great version. Thanks!

  • Trent and Robin. What a pack. I'm glad Mr. Finck is back for this 'Wave Goodbye'-tour. One of my fave songs, by the way.

  • You Sir, are an ass.

  • How dare this guy listen to thirty seconds of a song and pass any kind of judgment.

  • How the hell can you even have an opinion after 38 seconds you fucking idiot.

  • tell your boyfriend to stop wanking in your ears so you can hear, then.

  • this is too good for mtv

  • This was the last great year of the MTV Video Music Awards. I think this was also the year they had a super pissed off Rage Against the Machine, as well as I think a class act from Kid Rock, Run DMC, and Steven Tyler and Joe Perry from Aerosmith as the introduction.

  • wow what year was that?!

  • i forgot this but who introduced them?

  • Johnny Depp

  • id hate to be in that crowd juts cause id be expecting were in this together which they were suppossed to play and thats my fav nin song. but oh well this is like teh second ne way haha amazing song best and only nin love song

  • this is Trent at his hottest

    :D

    ;D

  • they sound amazing live!-one of the few bands that really do.

and as always, trent reznor is great on vocals and lyrics. he is the greatest and most creative artist, i would kill just to have a conversation on life with him...

as KillJesus418 said, it was when mtv wasn't cracked up on reality shows and actually showed good music.

this and 'and all that could have been' from the still album are my favorite songs from NIN.

    <3

  • i've watched this so many times

  • NIN rules \o/

  • Totally dude

  • \m/

  • that was fucking beast!!!!

  • i hate the fact that mtv put that shit after that song

  • Jerome Dilon mm

  • this makes me pine for the days when MTV played at least SOME decent music on it....i remember watching this live......soooooo fucking amazing

  • Absolutely brilliant. And hearing that cheesy dance music come on right after is just hilarious.

  • I just love this performance, and this song its soooo powerfull. And little Robin, he is so inocent when on stage :) and of course Trent my no1 man :) just awesome!

  • Is that robin Finkh?

  • hell yeah!

  • The bit at 2:25, I always think is utterly magically... this section of peace in such an tragic desperate song... It works perfectly...

    Beautiful song... passionate and tragic

  • LOL... Good YouTube APRIL FOOL'S JOKE.. EVERYTHING'S UPSIDEDOWN

  • i got into nin during the year zero peroid some of my fav songs from their but the first time i unoffcciouly heard nin was jhonny cashes cover of hurt but im into almost everysinge nin song out therer i luv nin i luv there music i luv trents energy hes more active then bands hafl his age way more energy anyways i luv nin trent and aaron are my two heroes for me trying to learn guitar, bass, drums, and of course piano imj a nin fan and proud of it

  • lol at 1:43 I like how trent tries to hide that laugh =p

  • thats how the song goes

  • everything Trent does is amazing, his stage presense, his displays, perfect!! Love him and this song.

  • Is it weird that I respect a 10 year old who likes NIN more than a 16 year old who likes Lil Wayne?

  • Nope. I was that 10 year old kid listening to NIN... I didn't respect many 16 year olds anyway even when I was that age.

  • NO, NOT WIERD AT ALL, TELL THAT KID HE'S AWESOME. haha

  • trent looks like he is fucking spaced out in this. But still rocks

  • I wanted to check this version out again after seeing his most recent live version of this song he performed in Australia. Its interesting to see the same song in two different periods. Between the two performances, I actually like the newest one more. Go check out the latest videos on NIN's official youtube to see the video I'm talking about.
