Thanks for this. I had a thyroidectomy 2 years ago and all my serum calcium levels are normal, but I get this almost daily. I'll start taking supplements!
this happened to me! I felt week and took my blood pressure at a machine in a drug store. I flipped out and drove myself to the ER. It saved my life. The dr knew right away what I explained with my hand . I was treated with ivs. one thing...Trausseau's more bout calcium, but if it comes to pottasium oral is better!! I.V. Potassium burns like battery acid!!!!!!!!
Hyperventilation can cause alkalosis, which can also cause this sign. You may be hyperventilating when you're crying, but I'd mention it to your doctor; checking your calcium might be a good idea.
This sign is an indication of low PTH due to thyroid surgery ..low blood calceuim increase the sesntivity of the motor neurons ..blood pressue cuff occlude the brachial artery and then blood supply to the forearm >>hypocalcemia and the irritate the neruomuscular and PIP and DIP then cause the adduction..
was the parathyroid taken out as well? is that's what's causing the tetany?
