i always wondered how much underground artists make. I know the big name cats are getting bread guys like doom and madlib. They work with a lot of mainstream artists so i know they getting paid but what about the other ones?
Theres this new kid on the come up, young puerto rican rapper named Iternal. Trust me when I say you havent heard no one with lyrics and wordplay like this kid. He got flow, structure, punchlines, delivery, the whole package. Keyword search his freestyle: Iternal-Ishtalk Freestyle #1, and also check out his other videos he got an album up, its dope. He be putting new stuff up every week. Dont sleep on this kid. One.
His laid back approach, mainly. He isn't a lot about self promotion and trying to take over the industry. I make beats too and if I could be like any producer I would want to be like Madlib in that regard. I would want to make some money but just enough to not have to worry about it and focus on music. Also, it seems he wants to expand his ability to make music by any means necessary, whether it be sampling some relatively obscure piece of music or actually learning to play the instruments.
I recently stopped using Fruity Loops so Im looking for a different set up. Which MPC or SP would be recommended for a first time user and what other equipment should I get (speakers, mixers, etc)?
some people that i know that think that the big name rappers and producers are it. i let them listen to people like dilla and madlib and they are blown away by it. and it proves just becuase you have your tracks up on the Billboard charts doesnt mean youre the best. stones throw always signs and backs some of the most original artist out there. people that have a true passion for the music not the money and fame. and i cant wait till the next madlib alblum drops.
I was supposed to go up against him in a beat battle in 02 but he had something else going on and had to cancel. I ended up winning but I was looking forward to going up against him I've always respected what he does.

Malib has his own style...Malib is a classic..now Kanye West has his own style very commerial and that is ok.. but I think Malib is a classic because he has 8 arms he is a octopus he do 8 things at one time. Malib do Reggie,Instruments, break beats, jazz techino,Dj,Mc,and a producer and more...as far as Kanye he is a very very good producer but Kanye is not a 8 arms man but he make good fuckin beats
response to "thefreehuey"...of course kayne is ripping off dilla-that's a known fact dude....problem is kayne will never be that diry, authenic, and raw...
Madlib started as rapper and producer to the underground heros Lootpack. But he has been more of a weak secret over time. The last years it been thrown out records from his studio, in Los Angeles. From great hip-hop records to fine jazz and reggae projects. He got much of the honor, that Stones Throw Records got so big respect by music lovers. And he got no plans to slow down the production.
Earlier Madlib worked from a studio at the crazy record collector Peanut Butter Wolfs house, in the studio well known as "the bomb-shelter". PBW is the founder and boss of Stones Throw Records, who gives out Madlib and many others artists from Cali.
When PBW and rapper Charizma had been on a major label for three years, without no record out. Did PBW decide to start his own label(Stones Throw). Stones Throw was founded in 1996, and newly had their 100 publishing. They got more and more attention, much because of the creative force of Madlib.
Madlib created a jazz quintet all alone, the group Yesterday's New Quintet appear as a full band, where all the members even give out solo albums. But actually everybody is one man.
The album that made many people take a extra look at Madlib and Stones Throw was the jazzy "Quasimoto - The Unseen". But it was never supposed to get out.
05.15 - 05.28
One hour north from Los Angeles, is Oxnard. Hometown of Madlib, here also many of the other Stones Throw artists live. Like Oh No(Madlib's brother) and the old partners from Lootpack.
I want to know if people are going to agree with what I am going to say. Do you any of you get the feeling sometimes those sax, strings, congos, and bass bits you hear in Kanye's music are written by someone else and Kanye just produces the sound quality but gets credit for their creativity? He's not exactly something of a musician. I apologize if I seem like I'm hating, but that's what I've been getting latey. Also, his music lately has something of a J Dilla type quality.
kanye is his own in some odd way. black milk is a replica of dilla. listen to ruff draft by dilla then listen to black milks popular demand. he uses some of the same samples and reconstructs the same beats just differnt tone.
This is the fucking genius that will go unnoticed until he passes away but in the meantime while the world sleeps he iis making some historic shit...from Spain
he's like "Not tryin to be like Jay Z, i seen how that lifestyle is and I dont want that" Says fathoms about the faults in music industry and Media. Kindly says "fuck you" to them . Nice

Stones Throw gives much freedom, but not so much money. As an example, is Dj Romes studio, a room in his mom's house.
06.48 - 06.55
Madlib has now began to live of his music, and makes beats to big artists like De La Soul, Common and Busta.

Also, his music lately has something of a J Dilla type quality.

i have a feeling most of those pieces and cuts are just samples? im not hatin on it i just dont if Kanye is a profound musician like madlib?

kanye is his own in some odd way. black milk is a replica of dilla. listen to ruff draft by dilla then listen to black milks popular demand. he uses some of the same samples and reconstructs the same beats just differnt tone.

Why is are you even bringing Kanye into this..?
Of course he has influence from Dilla, but to go on like his totally biting or not even relly mkaing beats..where is your proof..??
He has his own style I can hear a Kanye beat & know it came from him...
