Marilyn sings in tune and with feeling. She knows her accompaniment. She brings out the true character of the composition. She sings with sincerity and doesn't over dramatize. She doesn't show off her many attributes as others try to show their skills. She lets the beauty of the song speak for itself without a lot of embellishments. What joy she still brings to people like me.
@ Stimmritzenprotz (2 )My reason for writing is to thank you for providing me with sustainability, the same as what Marilyn had to possess to beat her cancer. With folks like you out there keeping those of us in compromising positions strong, it indeed makes life valuable and worth living. Thank you, my friend, albeit I don't know you. You've just made one night more precious.
@ Stimmritzenprotz (1) - This has left me entirely in another world. I'm a pianist and vocal coach, have worked with Marilyn in the past, and have also just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Like Marilyn, I'm a fighter and will not give into it. But when I heard this rendition of "The Lord's Prayer," I crumbled. My mother, who died many years ago, was also a mezzo who had a similar range to Horne's. Mother did not sing it nearly as well as Marilyn but.....
@undeuxtroisquatreish I once lit a candle and said a prayer for Ms Horne the night I learned of her diagnosis back in 2005. I shall do the same for you this night.
very very beautiful. she is one of my favourite classical singers of all time.
