I think it is time to man-up and use a saw to cut wood with. If you are worried about cutting your finger off then don't stick your finger in the way of the blade.
@illustriouschin The point was to round the wood, not cut it. I gave up on this project, though. I can't think of a good way to attach the strings or glue the boards together.

One of my pie-in-the-sky dreams is to make a Guqin, maybe some day, I love that instrument.
Wow, I m thinking of building a guqin too, for what i know, this board is to thin for top part of guqin but ok for bottom. Besides guqin making also include a special surface finished in order to create it's unique sound
