@sjp318 The only academic version I got was the record reason duo but I got Maschine $100 cheaper because I was willing to return it and buy the ac version from another dealer. Can't remember what I paid for the Mbox but I got it cheaper then what they wanted for it. I looked for the ac version of the Mbox but couldn't find it at the time.
@meandminespro7 I'm lovein both of em. Since I been usein record and reason I haven't even recorded in Pro Tools. Not that I'm not goin to be usein Pro Tools no more but its just easer to record in the same program that you make your beats in. I did some samplein with the maschine and I have to say that it is easier then anything I have ever sampled with. Useing them both at the same time would be a dream come true.
@KayHamTracks - actually you shouldn't wish on that being an upgrade. and pray you don't have a liscensing issue with Propellerhead conserning the ignition key...
We've been with out a liscense due to a foul up with the ignition key for almost two months now - and it still isn't resolved. If this happens to you - you can't use the software as intended.
besides we can think of much better uses for a usb port than a dongle for one piece of software.
@1itemp Well at first the thought of the usb liscense maid me thank but i just got a powered usb hub that adds 5 usb ports on 1 slot so it kinda seems like its not there.
As for liscense issues I haven't had any of those. So far the product seems to be good.
I do wish they would at least add some of the features that Pro Tools have like grouping tracks ect. If you worked with Pro Tools u know what I mean.
@KayHamTracks - We're moving away from usb - moving to faster technology.
And since making the move - we have increased our speed considerably. Some latency issues a all but disapeared and there is seemingly less stress on the cpu.
btw - Watch for conflicts with all the usb ports on a single port.

@1itemp So what do yall use now. I just got the new Mbox Pro 3 but it didn't work so I had to send it back. I'm waitin on a new one to come back now. It runs on Firewire. On the box it said HD Recording but it came with Pro Tools LE 8.0.4. My Mbox 2 runs on USB and I hate it.

Well, we/I'm still in the building stages of our new Master
- when does it stop right? lol
We're moving with our new comp to fiber optic but i hear of a lot of new tech out there for next year which will change the standard - usb is out from what i understand. Micro will be in possibly... rumor has it. Fiber Optic - in for sure.
We have our Master built into a console - to dress things up - HDs hot swapable front side.
@KayHamTracks - As far as using Propellerhead - obviously we can't at the moment untill they send us the software they promised us and straighten out the ignition key issues.
In the meantime we opted - at least temporarially to go with Imagline - I've used them before - they made us a good offer - one step authorization for the liscense - no addtional hardware - lol - no hassle.
We use other software as well of course, more Professional grade aps for Mastering. Even thogh we're a hme stdio
