  • Fake! this is photoshoped!

    Your hands are different! hahahahah

  • Adam, great video, very informative, thanks.

I too have the D700 and just getting into lighting so extremely limited in my knowledge. I have a 2nd hand SB800 so i can set up the main light in exactly the same way as you.

My other light is an old SB80 which can be triggered optically. Can the SB80 triggered optically work in place of your 2nd SB800 or will the the CLS system and the SB800 trigger the SB80 too early?

What is my cheapest work around triggering the SB80's optically?

    Many thnx Gary

  • Thanks Adam, found you through the fro's web site. That video was just what i needed as i have an umbrella and new flash on its way and did not know how to sync the camera to flash. Next video now.

  • What type of speed lights are you using? What are they set on? (TTL? M?) Thanks.

  • fake photo, Adam Lerner? On photo, hands together... on 'pose' hands separated... why? "/

  • 04:50 photo does not match your pose. Didn't like the shot and decided to use the first one ey? lol good video sir....

  • The first photo you showed as you got is not the actual first picture .... you have your hands in different position .... :D

  • You my friend has some awesome tutorials! Thank you. Now i only have to get myself a couple of SB-700's

  • That's actually really cool. I lobe the softness of that little softbox. Just got an off camera flass and the creative possibilities expanded a lot

  • good stuff and all, but will you ever cover where to set up the flashes?

  • When do you decide if you want to use a soft box, an umbrela , reflect or shoot through or nothing at all except the bare flash.

  • Great video as usual!

I was just wondering how long does it take you to actually set up the flashes and the cameras?

  • Amazing, amazing shots.

  • Hey Mr.adam I got a question.. I just taught of it.. If you are using a Nikon DSLR with a Pocket wizard Transciever mounted on your dlsr (ofcourse) and to your offcam flash but the flash is a canon.. will it work?? will the flash fire??

    just a curious question??

    thanks,,

  • @soul05extinct Yes, with a Pocket Wizard (or any other radio controlled system) it will work. There will be no such thing as TTL only Manual but it will fire! I use a SB 600 and a old Minolta 5400xi flash all the time. But i have also used a borrowed Canon flash.

  • @marcusboos78 hey man thanks for that.. Appreciate it..

  • would this work with the d3000's

  • @LomoMop No i had a d3000 and it can't use the popup flash as a commander. But you can use a SB900 on the Camera as a commander. (several other Nikon flashes as well but not the SB 600). A good alternative to the CLS or quite expensive Pocket Wizzard are these: Yongnuo RF-602

  • Great video man thx u way to go!

  • Exactly the kind of info I'd like to learn. Flash is daunting. I never get the flash power set right. So frustrating. Thanks for the great video Adam!

  • dude, you're like rich...nice video by the way :D

  • Which lens were you using throughout the shoot?

  • What about my T2i? Whats the simplest way to set up remote flashes on it?

  • @thebluecollargeek T2i doesn't have commander mode, you need either a canon 580ex flash or the ST-E2 to use canon's wireless system.

  • Wheres the flood....ha

  • I prefer the first photo, much more dramatic!

  • I want your eames chair man...

  • Very helpful! thanks so much adam

  • @cmgoskate I think the CLS system only works over about 10 meters / 30 feet and via infrared light, where a radio trigger can work over 100 meters or more (300 feet) and they work via. radio signals, so they don't need another flash to trigger them...

  • what are the advantages of remote triggers over this? why would you even need additional remote triggers such as pocket wizards if this exists?

  • great video adam, keep um coming!

  • I Love it and can't wait to start getting into it.!! I have an SB700 that im useing with my nikon D7000 I was wondering what other cheaper speedlight system and transms/triggers would work with it? I want to play with it first . just til I get the nack of it.?

  • Can you tell us the brand of the stand and boom? Also what's the weight capacity of the setup?

  • Works great on d80 with sb600 and sb900.........thanx

  • Thank you Adam. Keep it rolling!

  • Great video Adam!

    Andy

  • Good video, but i'll be waiting for video about radio control, because i shoot with Canon Rebel XSi so no CLS obviously

  • Most of Adams videos gets more views then the Fros : ) I think i know why.

  • @Minirappen because adam does tutorials and not stupid top 5 contest winner videos that now dominate jareds channel.. i dont even bother watching those anymore. i rather learn than hear jareds opinion on photos that dont even relate to the topic -_-

  • @hahatrainwr3ck

Fro is cool... Its not competition... Both are trying and both are free...

I also like adam's videos more...

  • @vertusmatjaz dont get me wrong i've learned alot from jareds channel i just rather keep learning and not watch top 5 videos or weekend round ups or whatever else he has been doing lately. all i watch is lil vids and product reviews along with 5 min portraits.

  • @Minirappen why?

  • Nice Job Adam, your vids are my fav!

  • best stuf !

i like this more than a editing videos..

  • GREAT stuff, keep theese coming :)

  • how many flashes can you run from the built in system?

  • love the on screen annotations. they're so helpful

  • awesome video! Thank you! Can you trigger the lumopro flash you were recommending with the nikon built in flash system? I have one sb900, but would like another flash to remote trigger with my d7000 but dont want to spend the money on another nikon flash. expensive for hobby use.

    thanks again!

  • @Mustangous yes by putting the LumoPro in slave mode to optically trigger it. distance would be a limitation as well as you'd have to manually dial in the power

  • haha. love the grocery bag weight. good stuff adam!

  • @jh3835 ha yes thanks - that's a bag of rice in there!

  • @AdamLernerPhoto classic

  • hmmm you know I think the audio on the mac is better than the DSLR audio so I guess you could use your computer as your mic temporarily :D?

  • @YoussefAbdelmohsen just got the audio thing sorted... stay tuned, thanks

  • exellent Adam keep those coming

  • Adam, I LOVE these types of videos! Hands on with direct comparison of results. I really just learned something and very simply as well. Keep it up Sir!

  • nikon d5000 :(

  • @movania89 right, but you can use a SB600, SB700, SB800 or SB900 on-camera as a commander to wirelessly trigger other flashes by putting the on-camera flash in commander mode.

  • @AdamLernerPhoto Right, except for the SB600, it doesn't have a commander mode..

  • @AdamLernerPhoto this means i can use multiple SB flashes on nikon d5000 wirelessly right ? hoping u to reply yes <.<

  • @AdamLernerPhoto I think SB600 can not act as a commander in CLS. ?!

  • just got a sb700 recently for my D90. I haven't learned how to use the menus yet but it is a hell of a lot better then the on camera pop up flash.

  • Nice Place ^_^

  • what softbox is that?

  • Great! I'm getting a SB-700 for my D7000.. I really can't wait to play with it. I believe the D7000 has built in commander mode so I don't even need to use the pop up flash.. at least I think.

  • Cool video, can't wait to see the pocket wizard flash systeme video.

  • Great video as always! Thanks! I love your place also!

Now it is time for making a video about intro music bass tabs? No?

  • I'm looking forward to the next flash-viedeos!!

  • Great video, I thought you might have gone for more fill light on your shirt, seems a bit under exposed in places...

  • Can you use autoFP (high sync speed) with CLS on Nikon flashes ? Dont own a flash yet, so I cant test :)

  • So annoying that I can't on the Nikon D60 :(

  • @EurghMatt right, but you can use a SB600, SB700, SB800 or SB900 on-camera as a commander to wirelessly trigger other flashes by putting the on-camera flash in commander mode.

  • @AdamLernerPhoto sb 600 can not be a commander :(

  • Always enjoy your videos, really happy your coming out with more.

  • exactly what i was looking for! thx a lot! ( you could set the self-timer, and hide the remote trigger in the time, when the self-timer runs :) )

  • @hbfsm92 yes, the self-timer is a great alternative to a remote trigger!
