  • Why is the old style intake manifold used?

  • Hi there...how much will a cam affect the reliability of the straight six?

I would like to put a cam and extractors in but I am worried that it'll do more harm than good. Can I just throw the cam in and the engine/ECU will adjust automatically or is there more to it?

    Thanks for any info

  • @Navium ford 6's respond well to cams, best place to go is to fordforums dot the usual then au or fordmods dot the usual. Theres a heap of people that can give you a lot more info over there. Was next mod on my list but its blown out to a turbo build lol

  • That does work, but most of the time when they auto adjust themselves, it will just throw the economy out the window, but bye the looks of things that don't bother you lol. Great Car

  • Needs tuning big time. The ECM's calibration is way off for the cam in it. Also sounds kind of like there was a cylinder that was down on compression from the cranking.

  • the guy filming is a fuckface

  • Crescent Motorsports FTW

  • I dont get why people are prepared to spend big dollars in modding their cams to end up with a car thats hard to start and wont idle all for the sake of a few extra kilowatts. I can understand this on a track car that spends its days at wide open throttle but a street car that sits in traffic? I suppose everyone is entitled to mod in a way that they see best, but a good turbo setup gives a six like this a substantial power increase while keeping it totally streetable and easy to drive.

  • @gav52l But in saying that its still a sweet ride!

  • @gav52l This is quiet a cheap power option if you can fit it yourself. bout 200bux. Weres with a turbo kit your looking at $2500-8000 for snort kits or a basic home setup is around $1000. And then theres fitting it and getting it to used having boost and maybe popping a head gasket.

  • @gav52l well the ecu learns around the cam so it will end up idling fine or u can pay 550 bucks for a tune, my n/a 6 EF used to ruin stockish xr6turbos and drove fine. its now turbo tho..

  • can you Run it with stock valves and springs??? coz im looking to do this to my Au XR6

  • sounds good but it will be an absolute pig to drive around town, the first 3 months will be unreal after that he will be sick to death of it........especially trying to sneak home on a friday night from the pub lol lol

  • needs to be bed in at 2000rpm or above for 15mins

  • its so lumpy

  • it hasnt been tuned yet

  • Comment removed

  • whats the LSA on that cam?

  • Is that first run break in ever? Coz ur ment to rev it above 2000rpm for 20 minutes to break in the new crank and cams and lifter springs, Unless its all used parts then its ALL GOOD and sounds mean. is it heavy to drive or nimble?

  • @UmakeMeSYK these motors have roller rockers in them so no cam run in procedure needed

  • wat a fucking shit box!!!

  • @mrgixxer100 its called a lumpy cam mate

  • Hey mate i just put an AU series 3 motor in my EB2 spac what did you time your dizzy too?

  • Sounds sick mate. I got a 94 ED XR6, looking for a new exhaust system cause my old one has rusted out sounds very airy. What brand system you got on yours? cheers.

  • looks good mate hope my ef sounds lumpy like that when my cam arives.. you running stardard springs and ecu?

  • The ef up manifold does a lot to boost the torque at low revs to keep it in a wider rev range, which is why you won't see a lot of difference in the kw.

It works by opening up the long path at low revs to in crease the speed of the air intake. At high revs it closes this part and makes the air flow more direct so more air can go in with less resistance.

  • i have a similer set up on mine the difference between a bbm and a ea-ed manifold is 3kw so its not a massive difference these motors dont like insainly huge cams as the design of the engine in regard to bore and stroke mean that they arnt a high reving motor however they are very torquey for a street motor you would have it set up for max power at 5400-5800but you could go 6200 rpm max but you dont really need to rev them that hard

  • i don't know if you believe it or not but my engine rev to 9500rpm on dyno. got shootout to prove. this engine can rev pretty hard. but you r right no need to rev them that hard. i shift at about 7000 but by the sound of the engine it had plenty more. just for the save side i don't rev it all the way.

  • yeah man i have no doubt it would rev that hard but for the street you dont need massive revs just instant torque thats what make these inline 6s so damn good i had a hemi 265 that used to hit 8000rpm which is good for a ohv 6 in a charger but the engines wouldnt last long needed rebuilding quite regularly and it was hopeless on the street almost undrivable but fuck it went hard 203.7kw @ 7900 rpm the wheels and 486 nm @ 4600 rpm

  • i don't know what cam he used in this car. but my car run an stage 6 crow cam in an xr6 motor, high comp piston with ported heads. it made 161kw at the wheels. it is also in and ED falcon like this one. however i run the ef el manifold but with the eds injectors. therefor the ecu is the same as an ed. but was turned by chip torque running an piggy back chip. if i own this car i would use the ef el manifold as they are way better. all inline 6 from ea to au engine parts are interchangeable.

  • except for the fact that the ef ran a coil pack and the rest ran dizzy's ...

  • yes rhysc375 is right you must use the dizzy if your going to use ed eb el ecu.

  • if it's the 1st run than the lifters haven't pumped up yet so ur valves wont b fully opening. hope it'll b tuned 2get the full potential outta the mods once it's run in. au engines r a tough block. nice

  • nice car m8 its sounds sik

  • u running the AU engine with the boxcar ecu or are u running au management without the broadband intake plenum?

either way, i wouldn't recomend it.

au engine + broadband intake + au computer = lots of smiles :)

maybe 1 day i'll do an au 3 coversion in my ef

  • EF+ intakes don't fit under the bonnet so the AU PCM n a piggy back system do the trick. unichip's r the go.I6 AU sumps require modifying to clear the k-frame. bit of a cut n shut. no big deal tho

  • BBM fits under the bonnet perfectly. Don't post if you don't know what you are talking about.

  • why cut and shut when u can just use the sump out of the falcon that you r putting the engine in?

  • because an EB sump is pressed sheet steel, the AU sump is cast alloy and is cross bolted to the main caps. the EB sump is also to shallow to clear the windage tray and longer main bolt in the AU engine

  • clearly v8freak55 the engine is worked....

  • uh.... when was the last service?

  • you idiot! its a worked donk.

  • it just sounds a bit dodgey upon startup

  • lol! it's a BIG cam mate.

  • its a relatively small cam dude. Its lumpy in this car because it was started for the first time with new cam, & because of the poor ECU management in the boxcars . Im running the 977b behind my EF auto and it sounds stock.

  • fuck i just seen i already posted the same thing 5 months ago lol

  • if he's running the EB computer.... then he's a total dumbass!!

  • Just what u need a couple of mates with shiny red tool box's telling u whats wrong .Dangerous !!!!!!

  • hay bro y not run the EF-AU in take on it than ya got a variable in thake manifold i know it works cos me mate has a EB has it turboed and it is hell good but he has put the old manifold back on only because he is now running 12 injectors lol, still nice

  • 1) don't waste your money on SS inductions intake; put something together yourself for 1/4 of the cost that is just as good.

    2) check for vacuum leaks or that your timing is right; I have used the 977B and the bigger one (15**A) and they run a lot smoother on idle.

    3) To whoever reckoned they had 210kw and wanted 250 out of an NA six, your joking -

A pure strip engine I built to operate mainly in 3000-7000rpm with a solid roller follower conversion pulled 197.2rwkw and ran 13.52 in an el.

  • lol @ 977b being lumpy..... maybe running it with boxcar ecu it might be, but put that down to poor engine management. The 977b idles like stock in my EF, even when it was untuned you wouldnt know theres a cam in there

  • was that engine running a stock ecu or did you have to change something?

  • just wondering how much the cam cost alone

  • that IS tuff!

  • Bye Bye engine mounts

  • man my brother got an xr6 engine in his ed fairmont with stage 6 crow cam, shaved and ported heads and high compression piston. turned by chip torque. it got 160kw at wheels.

  • hey i was just wondering i have a stock ef falcon, do u know how to adjust the idle? thanks

  • on the airflow meter.

  • um a little more detail please as i cant find it :S

  • You shoud not be fucking with idle if u dont know what ur doin, it could be a vacuum leak causing bad idle or anything. tke it to a mechanic mate.

  • i did and the retard goes "its normal for these motors" no way it was , it was too low, doesnt matter now anyway as old motor died :( has el motor now that baby runs fine. and my old man is a mechanic but not familer with the computers these days

  • mmmmm so lumpy

  • the 977b runs on a stock ecu and can also run fine on a auto, there is a ef runnin around with a 977b and auto with stock ecu

  • yeah there are some freak motors out there. wade do recommend running a manual gearbox or a chip/highstall for the auto models however you can get away with a very high idle...

  • good luck with 250kw

  • u should get either anger or ss induction kit with a high flow filter works so much better than a pod. i gots 2001 au II s pac manual. with that plus extractors high flow cat n 2 1/2 sports exaust brings it 2 a total off approx 210KWs plus the motor has 260000 on the clock n still moves as well as it does. im lookin into getin a tickford motor tho so i would b runnin at close 2 250kws :) ford 6 RULES

  • screw Wade......for these motors, go JMM or Crescent Motorsport!

  • screw wade go for jim mockawatts...

    YEAH.

150.5rwkw with just a pod, wildcat extractors 2.5" redback and a cam...

so $135 for cam, $250 for cat back $200 for highflow cat $80 for pod and $300 for extractors...

$965 for 150.5 or go jmm and get

    >146kW DEV3HL

    $2,990

  • i was talking about the CAM!!

    And its not $3000....its $2200.

And can i have a look at your dyno run power&torque curve??

  • u woulda liked the DEV5-SS cam much better than this "undriveable" 977B

  • @bentles or $3000 for a holden priceless lol

  • @bentles its not peak power u need to worry about its the average power and torque, mine made 171rwkw and 500nm. and u dont need a highflow cat thats a load of shit.

  • @marek0086 crescent motoesport are just wade copies anyway, so your paying more for almost the same cam

  • how much did it cost to drop an au motor into ur falcon?

  • did u have to do anything else to fit the cam, like computer or stiffer valve springs

  • The 977B can run with XR6 valve springs, and can run on a stock ECU, but requires a manual box.

It is a good idea to make sure you use a Manual ECU as well (It just runs a little better than the Auto ECU).

Wade reccomend using aftermarked ECU. But its not neccisary.

I used this cam on my old EL XR6, 5 speed with auto ECU. And it idled pretty good after it learnt. Worse comes to worse, you pull off the ISC plug and tighten the Idle screw to allow it to idle at 750-800 normal running temp.

  • sounds like your timming is jumping in and out mate my old ea was doing that if you put a timming light on it you will know. some time it colde be the DISTRIBUTOR to there a sprin in it some time the sprin wont sprin back that wot fuck my car up.

  • The idle is purely the ECU hunting. After 100kms of 3/4 hard driving it should learn. Though when you put a large cam in a car with a stock ECU, you should always check timing, and advance 5-10degrees higher. Reason being, bigger cam means more fuel/air, which means it takes longer to ignight, therefor needs to spark a fraction earlier for optimised fuel eco and power.

  • should put au manifold on it not the ed eb manifold get more air:)

  • sounds sic as, love the induction noise

  • beuatiful ford motor au six sounds exellent bet she cruises well

  • Hey! Its LOWXR in all its lumpy glory! haha wat a dream to look at mate. Top work

  • my uncle has a AU11 XR6 ute with a good engine note

  • not too good having your pod like that sucking all that hot air my eb got bigger cam then that and k&n pod in a box and would roast you

  • What compression ratio do you have ??

I have an 977B with 9.5:1 ratio and it sounds almost stock (except when you give it some, just the way I like it) lol

(Mine is a EL XR6, with a rebuilt head).

    Nice work

  • is the fuel injection of an earlier model? I have an AU XR6 and an XG ute, that fuel injection seems the same as my ute.

  • lol, that's hilarious~

  • Thats sik!!!

Ive seen the car before around chirny!! Very nice ride!!

  • is this manual or auto

  • bentles man that is tuff

  • XD I LOVE IT! my ones a FORD AU XR6 1998 and it sounds better but it cound sound the same coz it could be the recording of it... BUT I FUCKING LOVE IT! GOOD ON YA MATE
