hi, i was in a motorcyle accident and had to have my c1 & c2 fused. I'm out of the halo, but still in the brace. I just wanted to ask from someone else that had the c1 & c2 fused if they were able to get full mobility back in the neck.
@richwross Hey - fortunately I didn't have my spine fused. However, if I were to break my neck again and I could avoid the halo, I think I would actually go that route! Despite not having a fusion, I have lost some mobility turning my head to the left, and get tension headaches a lot from stiffness that comes and goes. I suggest massage and keeping as active as possible!
broke my neck on july 13th 2010 on a trampoline accident. Wore a minerva brace for 3 months. couldn't do sports until april 2011. Now i'm back to everything i did before even doing flips on the trampoline.
@nessachesters nope. just x-rays. And they will do another x-ray a few weeks after the removal to determine if anything moved/spread. hopefully that won't be the case! if you have any other questions, seriously don't hesitate to ask.
@elfenwick I have scoliosis really bad and have had 4 surgeries now. I have to have a 5th soon and because nothing seems to be working ... the surgeon wants to put me in this brace. He says there wont be any scars after. Is he lying to me? I see you had scars in the video. He also said the holes drilled would be under my hair only. But yours were also on your forehead!! Did those scars go away? Did it hurt when you lay down or pull. Did it hurt when they took the screws out??
@LoveMokes Hey - yeah, I have some scars from the halo. Usually people don't notice them unless I point them out. They really aren't the noticeable. It really depends on where they are going to put the screws in I guess. You can't see, but you can feel the scars on the backside of my head, but they are within my hairline.
I am so happy to watch this. Sometimes things just feel a little hopeless. I am too in a halo right now. I fractured my C1 vertebrae while on vacation with my family in orlando florida... A pool accident. This allows me to see what happens after this is off :) 6 weeks down - 6 to go :)
@nessachesters -- hang in there! sounds like you're in good spirits. you'll have to redo your vacation when all is said and done! I am still going to try to redo my road trip. I think it will provide some closure in the long run. Hope you're doing well!
I was in a car accident on May 2nd, 2010. I flipped my car 3 times and I was ejected 300 ft from the car. I flatlined on the accident scene and once in the hospital. I sustained several injuries. One of them was a broken c1 & c2. I spent 12 weeks in a halo also so I definitely know what you went through. I thought life was over but now I see that everything can always be worse. I wish I wouldn't have refused people taking pictures of me after watching this. God bless.
Just wanted to say, you are an inspiration and amazing young lady. I cannot imagine how hard going through something like this is, but I am very glad to see you overcame it and have gone on to enjoy life!
Im so glad your better and Im not sure if your religous or anything but God was definately watching out for you. I was in a similar accident i broke c1&c2 shattered my pelvic bone and misplaced my femur i too have a lot of scars but im out of my hhalo now and im doing much better. Im glad to know Im not thee only one:)

@webkinzwebkid The holes close up after about two dys, with the help of scar cream theyll go away in about a month after that they kinda just leave dents.

nice, i was training for an ameture cagefight, then i broke my neck.. i was so exited to fight then i dove into lake michigan and broke my neck, four days later i walked into the hospital to be checked, and it goes from there. it made me so happy to see you boxing cuz thats just pushing it as far as it can go lol ur crazy
I know the feeling. I broke C4, C5, C6, and C7 for a total of over 50 breaks. I also had ripped tendons and dislocations as well as ribs separated from my sternum. I had my halo on for 13 weeks, 4 days, 2 hours (I counted!)
I just want to let you know that you're never the same again, but it gets better and better. I was still seeing improvements 18 months later. I still can't move my right arm perfectly and there is some residual nerve and muscle pain, but it doesn't bother me. Stay strong!
