What is the frame rate? I bought a N8 last week. My HD video quality is not smooth. I am not sure this is due to using phone memory rather than high speed SD card.
I don't believe this is the Nokia N8. I have this phone and the quality is good but not so good as this video. What is the modification of this camera or what software is used to look this video better? This is my test video. watch?v=AHS6COubY3Q

as it stands there is no real advantage to symbian as a smart-phone os if anything it puts people off .
The video is real, I have tested the video quality in 720p mode, it is truly amazing. You can also use the HDMI adapter that came with N8 and hook it to a television.
It cost ¥50,000 but one of the best purchases I made. Better than any smartphone I have tried. Not just hype, worth buying. Will not sell it even if better model come out.
gotta be honest i am very impressed by the N8 both its physical design and build quality and also its camera however why will i never by nokia again ...... cause they are still using symbian i really don't like it :P, if nokia started using android well id be all over them but thats not going to happen anytime soon, when meego comes maybe but i havnt been impressed by the betas

@rickysio Who was talking about P'n'S cameras? Those as well has a terrible quality. When the mobilephone has sensor size at least 4/3" then come back. That is just impossible because you do not want to mount few centimeter glass to back of the phone to get a great video quality. Did you know N8 sensor size is 1.6x1.2mm? Typical P'nS is ~5x3mm That is just terrible. And the compression what is for the video even more terrible in N8. I would not take P'n'S cameras neither for video recording.

There is no dept, colors are washed out, sharpness is terrible, framerate is choppy and so on. Fact stands, we can never get good quality from mobile phones lenses unless we want to place there a at least 4/3" size sensors, few cm thick glasses and get few cm space between glass and the sensor. That is just impossible.

It would be nice to see raw footage, but you can still tell that the quality is there. We dont know what was done post prod, desaturation could have been one of them, something that is done in a lot of skating videos. @manufan4eva Yes, it is a PHONE, not a video recorder. Video is blurry, fuzzy, unsharp, laggy and so on. The video was needed to be composited to get something nice to market to people. Well done DVD is much sharper and so on. The HD in N8 looks just like a marketing to win hearts of the fans. I dont own iPhone or any phone with HD recording, as they are crappy ones. They are good only when you do not own anything else.

The only drawback is the fps. 30fps would make the video less choppy but the fps isnt bad. a lot of film makers go for 24fps because it has a more cinematic feel. Sure the composition make the video better, but it has not made the quality of the footage produced any better.
This video is even terrible because it is needed to be edited with fast switches and composition to get a fancy looking video so people would not even notice the video quality. There is no data about compressions (what is terrible) and other data at all.
Btw, the 1.6x1.2mm size got me wonder as it sounded just too small but I checked it wrong from wikipedia.
And study says that people do not even notice video quality if they enjoy the context. The quality can be terrible and they still love it.

I expected better quality. The resolution is impressive, but it has nothing to do with the image quality. The mobile phone sensor is just too small to give a good quality and the lense is just crap, no matter who actually makes it as the sensor itself is crap.
I still would buy almost any HD camera to get the real video. For good videos even the D-SLR cameras HD capabilities are much better, even that they are lousy ones as well (jumping framerate etc).
@TheFri13 Will you carry your DSLR in your pocket and take it out anytime? Of course a pocket size camera will never replace HD video camera for video shooting or DSLR for pictures, but it certainly is great to have this quality anywhere you go even if you're not prepared to take any pictures/video.

@MascaronRojo Flash lite 4 is no where near flash 10.1 and lower processor means more efficient? you mean crappier os? Android and htc made an excellent idea to include 1ghz to satisfy their customers with android's extensive capabilities within the os. Also you may want to research more because the n8 does not have a removable back case unless you want to carry around some tools with you on your pocket then I'll be better off to just bring a spare battery with me in case my battery runs out.
This video dos not give to us the real video capability of the n8. It would be much interesting viewing an untouched video sample, where we could see the effective video quality, frame rate stability etc etc..
This actually blows ALL other HD-recording phones completely away. It really does.
Seriously, why would you ever need a camera for stills or video if you had an N8?
As for editing, why does it matter if it was done off-device? Editing can't improve the video quality, so don't pretend it can! And there's lots of editing you can do on the N8 with it's built in video editor.

El Galaxy S sólo le gana en cuestiones de memoria virtual y procesador, pero el Nokia N8 cuenta con mejores prestaciones multimedia.
Cámara con mas calidad, mas megapixeles, mejor flash, mejores ópticas. Según todos los comentaristas Symbian 3 es super veloz y personalisable.
Y no olvidemos la calidad que Nokia siempre nos ofrece.

So honestly, it's not REALLY HD.

Bullshit! It has a 1/1.83 inch sensor. 1/1.8 inch sensor has the following measurements:
8.93 mm diagonal
7.18 mm width
5.32 mm height
So N8 sensor being 1/1.83", it comes pretty close to those numbers, 7.18 mm x 5.32 mm. Your ridiculous numbers are just wrong.

@bandora They are good features i mean other android phones have similiar features which may actually integrates it better. Seriously? Symbian 3? it's certainly no match with my HTC Desire with android 2.2. I think I would still rather prefer to buy an iphone 3GS than this and purchase a digital camera.

but just think of it man, 3gs have the same price with the N8, and you still waste your money to buy some digital camera + 3gs while the N8 can do both ??
even if you hate something, give the reason with your brain ;)
plus, do your desire have the usb on go things ?? do your desire have HDMI out put ?? this is what we call a multimedia phone pal !
also, can your desire do a real multitasking ?? i think the answer is "no" or "kinda"

@Risentgalll I know but the UI of the iPhone is better and not that i would pick it against the Desire. BTW I know the N8 has HDMI and usb on go. But does the N8 have flash 10.1, an app market that can offer over 50,000 apps, a phone that has a 1ghz processor, 7 interchangeable homescreen with leap feature, does it have a drop down notification menu, does it have portable 3G wifi capability, does it have a 3.7" screen with 800x480 , and most of all does it have a removable batter? I guess not

@luggage12345 Yes, the N8 has Flash Lite 4 ---> Flash 10.1
The N8 no really needs a 1Ghz proccesor because Symbian OS is an amazing efficiency OS and has an awesome GPU.
By default, the N8 have 3 homescreens, but in option you can select 7 homescreens.
The N8 have portable 3G wifi capability, mi N95 have that feature.
And yes, it have a removable battery.

@MascaronRojo Flash lite 4 is no where near flash 10.1 and lower processor means more efficient? you mean crappier os? Android and htc made an excellent idea to include 1ghz to satisfy their customers with android's extensive capabilities within the os. Also you may want to research more because the n8 does not have a removable back case unless you want to carry around some tools with you on your pocket then I'll be better off to just bring a spare battery with me in case my battery runs out.

This video dos not give to us the real video capability of the n8. It would be much interesting viewing an untouched video sample, where we could see the effective video quality, frame rate stability etc etc..

This actually blows ALL other HD-recording phones completely away. It really does.
Seriously, why would you ever need a camera for stills or video if you had an N8?
As for editing, why does it matter if it was done off-device? Editing can't improve the video quality, so don't pretend it can! And there's lots of editing you can do on the N8 with it's built in video editor.

No voi hirveää, Sehän nyt ei todista yhtään mitään. kyllä kai tossa tapahtumassa oli melkosen monta muitakin kuvaamassa? Sitäpaitsi N8:ssa on jopa varsinaisiin digikameroihin verrattuna suuri kenno. Tuo kommenttisi nyt vaikuttaa lähinnä tarkotushakuiselta riidanhaastamiselta, mikä on täysin typerää.

No hemmetti kuka amatööri käyttää digijkameraa kun sen kuvanlaatu ei ole lähellekään filmikameran tasoa. Ihme luuserit, digikamerat ei tule koskaan syrjäyttämään filmikameroita, koska niissä on yksinkertaisesti täysin surkea kuvanlaatu.
Tai sitten tekniikka menee eteenpäin ja vanhukset jäävät itkemään omiaan. N8 on jo pokkareiden tasolla ja kuvanlaadussa on huima ero kolme vuotta vanhaan N95:seen nähden, eli voimme vain kuvitella mitä kolmen vuoden päästä kännyköihin on tungettu.
