I do not respect Bruce Lee the myth. I respect Bruce Lee the man. Bruce Lee was a tought guy but by no means was he one of the greatest fighters to date. He was one of the greatest inovaters in martial arts and an all around good human being. Thats why I like him and the general philosphy of using what works for you and what is practical.
same again, a programme on Bullshitter Simon Lau. None of these lot could fight at that time - due to Lau's hot air was just hot air. He talks about real fight and how deadly his wing chun skills are, but he carpped in his nappy when the challenge(s) was before him. No disrespect all the former students featured in the programme (as they were oblivious).

No Hung Kuen in this one, but I'll say it was awesome to see those guys going at it so intensely in the Wing Chun portion. There was a lot of actual contact there, and solid philosophy from their sifu. As for Inosanto, the man's always been sharp as the Kali blades he uses. As a student of Bruce Lee, Inosanto's own expertise is often overlooked, and he demonstrates why that is foolish in this video: he was and still is a wealth of knowledge in the fighting arts.
I concur with hakkamantis, it is wing cung with sifu Simon Lau,in London. I saw this series on bbc 2 the first time round, although i didn't realise it was Dennis Waterman doing the narration.
To make it an end..Hung Kuen or Hung Gar is the same..Hung Gar Kuen is the right term but in short u would say hung kuen,Hung Fist..all southern styles u can call Nam Kuen.
Wing Chun is never called Hung Kuen..
I think the poster got it mixed up here and he means Hung Men...which was a rebel society
I have to humbly acept that i was wrong...I have read again my "sources" and..there was some mixed histories..that involves Hung Hei Gun hidding him self in the red boat opera as a "cheff", and some histories of wu mui developing some branch of Hung Kuen, in a Leung Ting text (Leung Ting,1980. Five-Pattern Hung Kuen, Part I)
Beacouse Hung Kuen is a generic term for so many styles originated from the revel resistence after the burn of soutern shaolin temple. Hung Gar, Choy Lee Fut, Wing Chun...etc
Sorry, this is the very first ive heard of wing chun being referred to as hung kuen. Hung family name Kuen - fist. I dont understand how this can be a generic term for wing chun kuen. Spring Blossom Time Fist? You may have to check your source. I know few persons in that vid who are masters today and do not and wouldnot class it as hung kuen!
Hung has a pronuntiation similar to Hon and Hong, wich mean hero (Hon) and Red (hong), the red color was a distintion of much of the rebels against the Manchu goverment.
Many rebels practice many martial arts, and was much of theirs considered "Heros", Hung Kuen or Hong Kuen was commonly translated as "the clan of Heros".
OK! Well i agree on the rebels not all being from Hung Gar, and i can see the logic behind your reasoning. So hey i will let it go, looking forward to seeing your gungfu.
HAHAHA! Thank you for the history lesson but you have not still given a reason to justify, calling wing chun, hung kuen. YOU have a video uploaded called Hung Gar, look up the many names of hung gar. I know wing chun is from the red boat. there is land and water wing chun. Im not chinese but my knowledge and history of the arts is deep. If you said their SHAOLIN arts i would not say a word. Siu Lim arts. Correct?
I been training Hung Gar (Hon Jia, Hong ga, Hung Ka, etc)several years, Hung Gar is a subgroup of the Hung Kuen (is not the same Hung gar Kuen and Hung Kuen), there are many styles difrents styles into "hung kuen"
Sorry, you was right, i was wrong...there are many styles in Hung Kuen, but none of them could be Wing Chun...and, i will upload my Hung Gar demo...in a few days..

no matter if you call it Wu Shu, Chuan Fa, Kung Fu or simply Chinese Boxing. Chinese Martial Arts is superior to MMA any day and twice on sunday.

Master Fong is a great teacher. Wing Chun, like Kali-Eskrima is superior to MMA.

Some of te styles created and performed by rebels where Hung Gar, Choy Lee Fut, Wing Chun...and meny southerns styles.
