  • why voypics?

  • People are so stupid argueing this nonsense. It has already come out that using these technics was clear with the leadership in both parties and they cleared back then. Nanci Pelosy knew about it. The fact is American soldiers are put through a form of waterboarding during the military's Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape program. Again, we are not talking about soldiers from another country getting tortured, another country that we are fighting in a war.

  • We are talking about people that will grab journalist and behead them, or the same people that will strap bombs to themselves and blow up children in a school. So I say, waterboard them, they will leave afterwards.

  • So who you talking about ? Republicans ?

  • Make everyone of these assholes - undergo waterboarding - for 3 days straight . . .

They will ALL sing a different tune.

Including the biggest asshole there is - Newt Gingrich - who said last sunday - he didn't know if waterboarding constituted torture.

3 days - relentless waterboarding - and this plump little bastard - would be dead . . .

    Ugh!

  • Gosh if Spector likes waterboarding than what what Charles Grainer and Lyndy England did he must VERY, VERY, proud of.

  • Rep. Dan Burton, you keep saying use any method in the law to extract information from terroists. But seems to ignore the facts that torture i.e waterboarding is unlawful. Also, he seems to think that if you torture someone, then they must be a terroist which is a false argument. The hypocrisy is that he is appalled that terroists torture but seems okay with torture if he does it.

  • Dont ever watch cspan people, 95% of congress is fucking retarded. Its painful, i ask myself who votes for these people.

  • Was that a question? What is this fool talking about?

  • Just doing their job?

Probably were just following orders as well, Herr Hitler.

  • i hope EVERY SINGLE politician who supports torture has their child kidnapped and tortured. then lets see how much they like it THEN. see if they think its ok THEN.

  • "Quantanimo"?

Did they do quantum physics torture there?

It's Guantanamo Burton, you colossal nimrod...

  • Torture is against the law. It is against humanity. We americans hold ourselves to a higher standard, or we used to. It shames me to even have to address this issue here in the US. Those that carried out waterboarding should be brought up on charges and held to the letter of the law. Anything less, is a miscarriage of justice.

  • this repuke is from indiana.. a double whammy of ignorance

  • Dan Burton was using tax payer's dollars to house his mistress. This guy is scum.

  • Gold is fiat too. The whole of monetary systems are fiat. IF and it's awfully paranoid to go along w/this BIG IF the world falls apart the only thing that is going to matter is food, shelter, guns and bullets.

  • don't forget traps for hunting, you can't forget the traps.

  • Republican talking points. Damn the GOP is weak as fuck.

  • What a fucktard!!!

  • and i hear echoes of bush saying "we do not torture people" in 2007, and this man thinks its ok to carry on with these procedures, does he understand thats it against international law to torture, I'm from the UK and even I think there should be justice for the torture actions taken.

  • Just following orders. How is it that they keep using the Nurenburg defense without any hint of self awareness?

  • Its the wrong cabinet official because he is talking to the secretary of state, not the attorney general. The secretary of state, does not prosecute people.

  • LOL @ "Un-Humanitarian"

  • This is stupid. It makes no sense.

  • This Burton needs waterboarding, he is so wrong.

  • how is this the wrong cabinet official?

  • Its the wrong cabinet official because he is talking to the secretary of state, not the attorney general. The secretary of state, does not prosecute people.

  • My understanding is that torture is not an effective form to extract reliable information. That is why it was banned in the Geneva treaty.

Why keep insisting on it ?

Torture only works in the movies and in the minds of impressionable low IQ Republicans.

We need to hold up a higher moral standards.

So proud of Obama and so proud of our USA.

  • What is an effective form then?

  • this asshole needs waterboarded till he admits hes a pedophile who killed santa while eating a panda bear steak. he is an embarassment to all americans.

  • ...and how does the title relate to the video?

  • Vote this man out from office !!

  • KSM waterboarded 183 times in one month...yeah, real effective tactic

  • The Secretary of State is traditionally the most powerful of all the cabinet members, and in many past administrations has been more powerful than the Vice President. So I do not see why Clinton is the "wrong" person to talk to about this. Especially since the justification for releasing the memos was to improve our moral standing in the world. Which is obviously makes the action a foreign affairs issue. Anyone who bites on that headline as accurate is quite ignorant of government structure.

  • Burton's a fucking disgrace to the great state of Indiana.

  • ver506 seems to really really like nadal i mean really like him ...

  • Lol! Burton is such a dumbass. Straight from the redneck South

  • Indiana isn't a southern state.

  • we believe what cheney pulls out of his ass now???? He's a proven liar!!!

  • signing the geneva convention is not wrong, just trying to comply with it is helping the terrorist prepare.

ksm did not give any additional information after being waterboarded. So what was the added value in that?

  • let's hope they keep ideas of terrorist in mind when you all start looking at what Wall Street and banks did to the economy

  • Lol..republicans are just looking to vent now!

  • You are all buying into the great distraction...even if anyone is prosacuted for torture its just political broadway...while the global elite are robbing the global economies through the back door....and building underground cities for there....members families..they want us bickering about the soap opera while they finish the Global Cout de taut ..wake up and call bullshit we need to Take our country back from the British Royals and NWO....Obama Cheney Bush and the whole lot are just laughing

  • This poor man is absolutely sure the bogeyman is right behind him, under his bed, hiding behind every bush and under every stone.

He think that If he is not allowed to torture some brown people the bogeyman gonna take him and put him in the big black pot.

  • the ends justify the means for these people. and the ends that they're seeking aren't even close to realistic, they're dangerous ends that don't allow for opposing views and the means they are using are just as dangerous.

  • Bush is a war criminal

  • True but notice nothing will ever happen to him. Both parties protect the other. Nixon was a war Criminal too, he dropped 8 billion dollars in Laos and Cambodia , 2 million civilians died no trials right ? He got pardoned.

History repeats , 1.2 million dead Iraqis Bush lives a life of luxury , no charges for war crimes. The US government is a total joke.

  • at least in 200 years people will learn about his in history classes just like we know now about Pizarro and Cortes

  • The law is the law. The law does not care about parties. The Attorney General must follow his job description, investigate and prosecute where crimes are found. The congress must follow it's job description and do the same. We must affirm to ouselves and show the rest of the world we are a nation of laws.

  • Cont. from previous:

Ultimately, the point of this panel was whether the previous administration should be tried for this. And I simply believe they should not be. I believe the motives are not moral, but are rather political. It's a way for the current admin to kneecap their political enemies.

If solid evidence can be provided that something ILLEGAL was done, then of course there should be accountability. I'd need to see that first. Anyone care to provide some?

  • how about that the methods we used in capturing these people (suspension of habeas corpus) with no evidence against them (a violation of international law), torture (again a violation), destorying and tampering with evidence (violation) and lying to the American people about it (not a violation of any international law but certainly morally reprehensible).

  • The Federal Reserve (Private Corporation) is blowing up the globe by counterfeiting money.

Either you good people start investigating the central bank or WE ALL ARE TOAST !!!

Please wake up , please !!!

  • This video is about torture. Not the economy. So follow your own words and wake up. You guys are getting desperate to save your paranoid thoughts. Go away. No one cares.

  • Symptom Endless Corruption, Endless War, Endless Welfare

Torture is a symptom of your country under attack from the inside. You think paper money is valuable, the disaster coming down the pipe will torture issues look like child's play.

You idiots will never wake up !!!

  • Why don't you go taser someone to death. Mind your own business. You Canadian fucks need to find a hobby. How about Russian Roulette?

  • what did i do :(....so fuck you dont judge one on all....look at your own mirror

  • I am not sure I said anything to you.

  • naa i just felt like responding to what you said...my bad

  • That's not the best way to slaughter the sheople.

Just spray agent orange all over the place or use depleted uranium rounds. That will fck up a country for all time.

If you haven't noticed yet a "police state" can exist in any country. The taser bull crap is just a taste of things to come.

You fckin hamsters will never wake up.

  • Boots this not your country. I am not going to sit and argue with who knows us only by what they watch on the internet.

  • I am a witness, I see error after error. If this was Zimbabwe I felt terrible for those folks. The seriousness of the situation comes from you good people control the wealth of the world.

If the US dollar implodes, so does the rest of the fiat currency.

Out of Chaos comes the New World Order...

  • Boots for the last time this is not your country. When you type you insult my family, Friends and the community in which I live. You do not know us. If the dollar does not implode then what will you say? We float your economy. Without us you would not have a country. Quit slapping the people who help your very existence. We owe you nothing.

  • Was Vietnam your country, you fckin idiots have screwed up that country for all time. (Agent Orange Chemical warfare)

The only thing you hamsters owe me is to mind your own fckin business and stop being frighten children. What country would attack the United States ? No country right ?

  • Well boots you are not Vietnamese either. I guess that you are not aware that we brought many Vietnamese people here to escape North Vietnam. Now who is sticking there nose in whos business? We have fucked up Boots. We are not perfect like Canada who has been bankrupt for years. Yet we have helped many people with money food and other great items. Now tell me what your country has done for the world? We helped rebuild Europe which is a huge place after WWII. What did you do?

  • Can't we all just get along?!

  • Nope , when the US dollar implodes you'll be seeing shooting their brother in the back for a piece of bread.

  • Hahaha. You're a dork.

  • Gee you should run for president of the The United States.

You have all the skill needed.

  • Will you be my running mate? We'd make a very educated team.

  • I'm a human being and I don't appreciate seeing one country invading another country based on lies and deception OK.

What the hell's wrong with with you people, you invade a country based on spin. What did the following countries ever do to you guys, Korea, Iraq, Iran, El Salvador, Chile, Cuba, Philippines, Afghanistan, Vietnam. What good have you guys done since WW2 ? Vietnam is totally fcked for ALL TIME, you sprayed agent orange on the land and people for ten years. AHOLES...

  • OK Boots. You seem to avoid my question as to what Canada has done for the world. In the 80s the cold war was ended. We sent food to Africa and held concerts for them to help feed them. We have worked to have peace in the middle east. The Israelis lets us try to negotiate with any nation that attacks them before they retaliate. Like I said: We float your economy so you can eat. We have done wrong. But you have done nothing. We have also done good. You have done nothing.

  • Hey I don't like the state of the Canadian Forces but what can you do when you're a peasant ? Unfortunately the UN has been using Canada for peace keeping, but our government is most incompetent to take on that task.

Its scary dude what should the USA be involved in the UN, WTO, World Bank, IMF, CFR...its all based on paper money.

Do you trust paper money, I sure don't.

  • Yet your country has done nothing. And that is your fault. Fix your problems. I am sure Canada has many beautiful people. You are just not one of them.

  • Is is not better to do nothing rather than slaughter civilians. Just askin here, the US does more harm than it does good.

    Your government is very creepy.

  • Well said.

  • Draining the World's resources and returning a fraction back is not doing "good". I rather the U.S. do nothing than continue to drop bombs and spray bullets.

  • Ya I know what you are saying. It is hard to say we are not all violent when you see the contrary. I hope we can figure something out. We really have a lot of wonderful people here.

  • "The wonderful people" don't run the Federal Reserve.

How much gold do you guys have ? An audit hasn't been done on Fort Knox since the early 50's. I guess you'll just go with the word of the creepy government fcks.

  • We don't have a gold standard.

  • Exactly that's why the government can counterfeit money without complaint. Fiat money always ends without exception.

If you had a gold standard people who held US dollars would turn them in for physical metal. Something similar when people turn in their gold and silver certificates for physical metal. When they try there won't be any physical metal and the contract will be settle in worthless paper.

  • So, if you buy a car for $20,000, it wasn't really worth anything at all, because fiat currencies are worthless?

You've probably been listening to Ron Paul for too long. Our currency is priced in confidence on the open market. So is gold. If we tie our currency to gold, speculation on the value of gold is what will value our currency. One way or another, an object is only worth what the buyer will pay for it.

  • The federal reserve note doesn't meet the definition of money.

Its currency, based on nothing. That's why gold is $900 bucks per oz. Sure you can have paper currency but when you print too much of it the gold price goes up. Gold shouldn't be an investment, its a way to hedge against the printing press.

    Preserve your purchasing power.

  • Gold prices were mandated to be $20 per ounce even while the government was inflating currency in the late 80s. You're better off having that $900 an ounce in the form of gold certificate securities than you are when gold is artificially $20 an ounce.

A gold standard is just another way of trying to control the uncontrollable market.

  • A gold standard controls the size of government. If you are on a gold standard and you see the government counterfeiting money you turn in your currency (paper) for the gold or the silver in the coins. Notice no silver in US coins since 1964, no foreign gold window since 1971. The price of gold is a reflection of what the market thinks of the central banks counterfeiting money. You don't get rich investing in gold, you just preserve the value of your savings.

  • Yes the USA is the largest terrorist nation in the world since 1945

  • In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

    Dwight D. Eisenhower

He at least tried to warn us peasants, its unfortunate "We the people"...didn't take the warning serious enough.

  • Canada has had budget surpluses for the past 8 years or so, and we have a smaller total debt than the United States. How, in any way, is it Bankrupt?

  • Since 1867 Canada has borrowed 30 billions dollars in principle. We owe about 700 billion. Its a total scam .

Take the EI program, taxpayer's paid 50 billion more than what they needed to in the program, The government lost in court but the judge ruled the government didn't have to pay back any of the overfunded program. What bull crap...

The government just makes up the rules as they go, no transparency when they get caught with their hand in the cookie jar nothing happens.

  • They'll go on a witch hunt, on any Democrat in power, but when the table is turned, and the issue is real, you have these idiots trying to protect the Bush legacy(I mean fuck up, legacy seems to project that he did something good, but he didn't)

  • To all:

    Define torture.

Show me where I defended torture.

    dogstar: What's a culture warrior?

and "genghis" (nice name) ... if you understood nazi's, I doubt you'd say Bush was one. You'd definitely say Obama resembles one with his policies, tho.

From my viewpoint, sleep depravation isn't torture, psychological pressure isn't torture, and waterboarding was only performed on three individuals. But regardless .. it leaves no lasting effects.

    cont:

  • Ironclad - first of all we convicted the Japanese for waterboarding during WWII. Most importantly, you say from YOUR viewpoint. The techniques we used had been used by the Communist Chinese during the Korean War on US soldiers to break them down enough so that they could be trotted out and repeat Communist propaganda. These techniques have long-lasting mental effects. When we saw US soldiers spouting Communist propaganda, we started wondering what happened.

  • I think I can be persuaded about waterboarding. But as for the other things (sleep depravation and putting harmless bugs in cages) that's far different.

However, I still believe this is a witch hunt being used for political gain, and isn't some moral high ground being taken by the current administration.

  • Ironclad - again, did you not read the rest of my comment? We were using techniques designed to SPECIFICALLY create false confessions through a total mental breakdown. Mental torture is still torture. The scientists who studied this issue to see how the situation had occurred determined that it is on par with "normal" torture. You should check out the book Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein. It's not political gain, otherwise Obama would have put out stronger statements about going after Bush.

  • (cont'd) In our investigations, we found that they were using these techniques on our soldiers - that is how we created the SERE program - a program designed to try and resist these techniques. There was also a study on the techniques, talking about how they create "learned helplessness" and "dependency" on the captor, leading to false confessions. The 1956 study said there wasn't extreme physical issues, but they could not differentiate it from other kinds of torture.

  • Lol the Republicans are stuck defending torture.

  • What reality is this guy living in? Does he not keep up? The world is not so black and white and terrorism is not the only major foreign policy issue. Also, the FBI and the CIA are not above the law. If they deserve prosecution, prosecute them and work in the future to interrogate morally.

  • The War on Terror is about as winnable as the War on Drugs.

  • That is a prime example of right wing ignorance and weakness. It is in times of great strain that men and countries show their strengths or their weaknesses. The republicans were weak and in turn further damaged our country and global reputation. Torture didn't work and doesn't work! Torture begets torture. Weak men crumble in times of crises. Let us all watch as the spotlight shows them picking up the pieces of their shattered moral consciences.

  • Its like little kids...they do it too....it stopped terrorist activity? they got false information out of them....how dare they pretend to hold up their values???

  • The right wing is great at equivocating and making things a wash. Sure, we slammed people against walls, stripped them naked, and poured water down their throat while they were strapped to a slab and put them in boxes with bugs like in Fear Factor... but do you think the terrorists would show mercy on our boys???

NO SHIT THAT'S WHY THEY ARE THE TERRORISTS AND WE AREN'T.

For a party that prides itself on being more moral than anyone else you would think the hypocrisy would get to them.

  • So the congress man thinks Torture should be institutionalized.

I wonder if he was in the toruture orgy o the administration.

I say let justice take course, and see some head roll.

  • I think the key issue here is ... what is barking all this at Clinton going to do? The Secretary of State's primary role is to handle foreign affairs. This is clearly a domestic issue.

This is just a Repub looking to rant and rave.

  • I'm confident Obama will get word of this conversation.

If you don't get an audience directly, make your case indirectly. Who cares WHO he spoke to? Deal with the content people!

    Liberal:

    Thought < Emotion

  • Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

    -Benjamin Franklin

  • there is a reason VP Chaney has a bad fake heart!

I will leave it at that!

  • Yes we are listening, the man is condoning torture.

Didnt you know that Torture is a war crime penalized by death in many countries?

Ask any Holocaust survivor if they show pardon the people who torture in WWII.

That congressman should be ashamed of himself a voted out of congress for his extremist ideas and his fascination with torture.

  • Japanese were put to death for waterboarding during WWII.

  • ironclad452,

    Playing the Culture Warrior?

OK then, I'm happy to concede the defense of Torture to the Rightwing. It's all yours, enjoy it.

Rep. Burton sounds "reasonable' to you, really? What exactly was reasonable about him claiming that what he "heard" exonerates the torturers?

How does bitching to the Secretary of State about matters having to do with the Justice Department sounds "reasonable"?

Makes me doubt your idea of "reasonable"

  • you sir, are an idiot.

  • 'just doing your job' was the same excuse used by nazis...

  • *atrocities

don't want you guys attacking my typo's for lack of anything substantive to rebut with.

  • lol so no nazi comparisons unless it suits your beliefs?. bush was the ultimate nazi. that is how i will always remember him. sorry.

  • please let me explain myself slowly. I never said anything about Republicans in my comment. I am saying that "Just doing your job" was not and excuse to commit a crime. That was all. What I am saying has nothing to do with politics.

    Waterboarding = Torture.

It is spelled out in the Geneva Conventions.

  • You gotta love when the Republicans roll out the talking points to justify breaking the law. I never asked anybody from this country to torture anybody for me. I don't care what the cost, by allowing torture we're sacrificing what seperates us almost every other country in the world.

  • He got the note from Cheney, but used it in the wrong meeting.

Notice how he doesn't refer to Darth Cheney as the 'former' VP?

  • thanks for the explanation. I was trying to figure it out.

  • I do not believe that the house and the senate approved all the techniques that were in the memos. Also, it's TORTURE! Jesus Christ! Seriously, what is wrong with these people? It's disturbing that they can sit there and say "We're keeping you safe by torturing other people, most of whom are innocent, but some could do us harm if they had the ability to." Oh and guess what? The innocent people that are tortured become "Terrorists" because we've Terrorized them! Stupid Fucking Republicans.

  • Fighting terror with terror is NOT like fighting fire with fire, but instead is the precise recipe for the disasterous state the Bushies have left our country in. Defending the indefensible will always be a losing proposition.

  • Republicans will oppose anything Democrats believe in.

I wish Obama would come out and say "I think freedom is great."

Just so a Republican can have a rebuttal

  • "...and I've heard people say...some people say...I've heard...people think..."

Thanks for the summary of hear-say on the Hill, Congressman.

  • Damn Im tired of republican chickenhawk war-mongers.

I wish Obama wouldn't mess with this stupid terror stuff at all, but at least he puts it in perspective, this guy acts as though the terrorists are taking over Europe, blitz-krieging London every night, advancing towards Paris, etc....

Come on man. They live in caves. We have antagonized the fuck out of them for years and years now, and they managed ONE attack on us. And that was a fluke. They are NOT THAT DANGEROUS!!!

  • yap yap yap, blah blah blah

  • Another potential consultant for Fox news and/or the Heritage foundation...

  • In the future you should probably drop "tying the government's hands" as a metaphor.
