nice fish a few days ago i went spearfishing with my friend and saw an easy 20 pound halibut but i have never gone for one before and i was using a weak gun because we were going for Opel eye bass and corbina (i think thats how its spelt) and so i shot it from behind and it wiggled off but i watched your how to shoot a halibut and so when i go today with my riffe im gonna try to get one the right way :3
That's a shame dude. Better luck next time. If you see them and then adjust to approach them from the front they usually will wait longer to bolt too. This will allow you to get closer for the shot and also be able to shoot them from the front so they swim up the shaft.
Clear water makes fish look smaller. Of course DFG checks spearos man, cmon:) I wouldn't have shot it without carefully inspecting it before hand. I already went down, checked it out, went back to the surface and went back down with the camera for the shot.
I don't ever agree with name-calling calling online because it is pointless. . Having said that however, the halibut did seem marginal. FreediverMan undoubtedly measured the fish once on the boat, otherwise he would never had posted the clip. Large halibut are such a prized quarry, that it is never right to take chances like that. "Slow to Grow, so Let them Grow" the saying goes. Other than the size of the fish, I enjoyed wathing the video probably as much as X SurfOc.

@FreediverMan I see, I'm an avid fisherman but never tried spearfishing. I guess when in doubt, you don't shoot it? are you aiming for the brain?
