  • Luxo Jr. loves squashing things doesn't he...

  • 1986?

    'impossible

  • @petxe2009 nope. founded February 3rd, 1986.

  • The sound effects sound like Wall-e's. Still a cool little short.

  • My childhood oh so long ago now im all old and 16. Like im young and old ya know

  • it must have taken forever to render at that time

  • @chihuahuabebi i was actually reading jobs biography in the part they render this and it took a few days to do it

  • was this in a film

  • @MasterCheifASSHOLE It was actually before Pixar released Toy Story. Their second short ever. It was, however, replayed before Toy Story 2. I remember that day fondly.

  • This was my favorite part

  • is the adult lamp a male or a female?

  • @mspeter97 It's a lamp. I doubt it has a sex.

  • Greatest 2 minutes of my life.

  • 1986?! Wonder how long it took to render...

  • this is one of my faves

  • John Lassenter had explained that the parent lamp is a father, because a mother will never let the child play so wildly

  • legendary animation from a legendary company.... started by a visionary... RIP Steve Jobs [1955 - 2011]

  • @wiledog PIXAR was not founded by "Steve Jobs"!!!!! It was founded by "George Lucas" \ "LucasArts" in The Computer Division, in 1979.

  • @J6X16 It was, technically, founded by Steve Jobs. He purchased the computer division from George Lucas (literally right before Lucas was going to shut down the division because they weren't developing what he wanted - they were working on animation and software, he wanted hardware - hence Pixar Image Computer). Steve bought them when he was let go from Apple and they founded PIxar.

  • @J6X16 dumbass! Steve Jobs bought LucasArt and created Pixar with another person and he owned 50,1% of Pixar and 7% of Disney!!!! learn facts before you say something that aint even true!!

  • SUPERB!!!

  • this is TOO CUTE! My son loved the lamp at the beginning of the movies every since Bug's Life came out. He was little bitty then so to see this made my day! Thank you for sharing:)

  • The beginning of greatness........

  • After all this years, i finally watched Toy Story. I was shocked to see the short included, didnt know those animations existed back in the 80's. Am 30 and allways loved cartoons and stuff and that short really shocked me....

  • i remember 20 years ago, when my kids were little, when these were on Seseme Street, the early Pixar shorts. i bet back then, they felt lucky to have that much of an audience! and look where Pixar is now!

  • this is what started it all

  • Such a classic!

  • feel proper sorry for the little lamp when the ball bursts

  • Fabulous ... the birth of the world's most creative business ... discover the whole story of Pixar, from Star Wars to Buzz, Jobs and Lassiter, in "Creative Genius"

  • WIENERSCHNITZEL! 1986???? How long did it take to render? Must have been the SGI Indy :) <3

  • Tomy Pickles form The Rugrats has the same ball!

  • lol

  • I've seen every Pixar movie and short since Toy Story but not this one. Thanks for the upload.

  • Simple yet good

  • I wonder if the lamp is a boy or a girl....

  • @wolfmyth007 balls are considered more athletic so a boy would be more presumable not to mention that it is called Luxo jr. causing me to believe the older looking larger lamp is luxo and his son luxo junior, a daughter would not be referred to as junior.

  • wow! long time haha!

  • I nearly cried when the ball popped when I was a kid.

  • the lamp noises are so cute

  • hahaha! that's so cute

  • Go Steve Jobs

  • i love the background music for this.

  • Watch the documentary "The Pixar Story" its really interesting to see how pixar got started and all the people involved. I watch it all the time its great!

  • @mrpink188 me too! it was so good, makes me want to watch all their films over again!!

  • Such a great short, and it tells a great story in like 2 minutes. I like how this short reflects a lot of what PIXAR does with its movies. And that Ball has created god knows how many easter eggs in the PIXAR Movies, however there are many other things that pop up in secret in the films from now and then

  • 0:40 to 1:06

a word that says FONy is on the bottom right corner

    WHY

  • PIXAR LIKES EASTER EGG

  • 1:09

we've just witnessed the worlds first moonwalking lamp

  • i want a toy of it :3

  • SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUUUUUUUUUUUUUTE

  • so cute!!!

  • I love this film its brilliant. Why can't my lamp do this? lol

  • at first when he smooshies the first lil ball you just gota say awwww, but then laugh when hes like hahah i gota bigger one. lol

  • its funny how. in all the pixar films theres a referance to other pixar films. like in monsters inc. there a referance to jess from toy story 2 and nemo from finding nemo. oh and the ball lol :)

  • @garthewar The funny thing is that when Monsters Inc first came out, Finding Nemo wouldn't be released for a year and a half even though a squeaky toy clownfish was shown as a reference to it.. Another reference to an at-the-time-unreleased Pixar movie was in Up. In this one shot of a girl in her bedroom looking out the window to see the floating house, Lotso-Huggin-Bear from Toy Story 3 is laying right in the bottom left corner by the bed.

  • awesome! I was wondering if this was just my imagination.

  • dude they used the same ball in toy story and monsters inc

  • This was on Sesame Street all the time.

  • @reeding and to many others movies, as same is the truck of planet pizza, it appears in almost every movie of pixar, including cars, the ball and the truck are easter eggs, they hide in the movies of pixar´s

  • @reeding

its meant to appear in all Pixar movies, along with the pizza planet truck

  • @reeding its in all pixar films

I wonder how they will put it in brave?

  • @reeding They used the ball's design in a lot of places.

You'll also notice many other Easter eggs in Pixar films, like "A112" and "A113." These were the hotel rooms that some of the team stayed in a certain time.

I love how Pixar invites this kind of culture into its products.

  • @Ffiti2

No, it's actually not. that's the room that they all studied in at CalArts. Room A113.

  • @TheStorytimeee Yeah, my bad. A113 was the studio at CalArts for first-year students.

  • @reeding It's kind of like a trademark Pixar thing. It started in this short though.

  • awesome!

It reminds me of childhood :D

  • Awesome! I haven't seen this since I was like 6 years old! thanks for uploading
