I don't likeD1- D2 because almost all level design are ridiculous, you can finish a level on nightmare in less than 1 minute running until the keys almost without shooting, and then, go to the next stage. I prefer d3 style because it is harder than the previous games, just compare a D3 walkthrough on nightmare to a D2, the entire game can be finished in 20 minutes running and avoiding all monsters, unlike D3 where you need to be carefull all the time. A game like D2 will fail hard nowadays.

It's funny; I thought Doom 3 was a piece of shit until I played it.

When I accepted it's not Half-Life 2, and is its own unique entity, it was a LOT of fun!

(you ever listen to a song while doing something?, and whenever that song plays afterwards, it invariably brings you nostalgically back to that awesomeness?)

Somehow I ended up with such fond memories of ~May 2006, when I decided to play it through.

I STILL find it a more beautiful game than most of today's (also last game I've played).

@getoffmyfrigginlawn The problem the first legit shadows in gaming was that they didn't render reflection of light off of other objects, so in a bright ass room if there was only one source of light all the shadows would be pitch black. Doom 2 wasn't made with that problem in consideration.

atleast john romero was with that and it was an obscure idea but both games were good altough they DID NOT have as good monsters and concepts as doom, quake was a delight at its time but this is not mirrored in ids last endevours in doom 3 and quake 4.atleast infact QUAKE 4 had good art and concept BUT it also had that bad gameplay and stiff gaming which looked more like a rail road park game instead of actually in a game.

HOWEVER , new wolfenstein was good.

In doom1 and 2 it's just a sneaky addon, by in doom3 i'm guessing they wanted to give a rational reason for there being dirty great big chainsaws around, so they just added a tibbit to the story and made them all a miss-shipment, it was supposed to be flashlights or something.
