  • Listen to the Moon Bubbles bootleg solo between him and John Petrucci. It is incredible.

  • Wow, what a beast

  • It looks like herman Li on bass, but 1000000 times better :D We all know Myung is the best bassist in the world

  • its from ytse jam

  • Im azn like myung :D

yeah i wish they made John Myung's basss louder.. oh wait... That would be toomuch godliness for them to handle

  • My only complaint about his solos is that they always seem to be buried in the mix. Maybe it's just a YouTube thing. I find it tough to hear them clearly. His chops are stellar, I know from experience that it's hard to play as fast on the bass as he does here.

  • I agree.

  • I'm not sure about it being a youtube thing. On a ton of their albums (and even more so recently) poor John is CONSTANTLY buried under the mix. Maybe the rest of the band is jealous ;o

  • wat song is this?

    btw im korean too

    hahaha

    KP

  • ytse jam

  • nice

  • i'm roman too!

  • i'm romanian and i am very proud for myung!

  • I'm korean.

I'm proud of John Myung :D

  • I'm korean too.

    Represent!

  • Yesssss.

    Hanguk for LifE!

  • i'm not Korean but in kinda want to be now...

  • I enjoy the musicianship of Dreamtheater. I don't play bass, but this video shows the viewer that Myung plays each note on purpose or for a reason: meaning that it's not because his finger slipped off the string and hit another fret, but by luck sounded good. No, quite the contrary, he played that note intentionally. That's why I enjoyed listening and seeing this video.

  • john looks the same now as he was a decade ago

  • i agree, i swear he's found the fountain of youth, he's probably 800 years, thats why he's so good at bass

  • lol

  • holy shite!!! what a fucking crazy asian(korean?) monster!!! A++++

  • Yup! John is korean.. both of his parents are korean, but he was raised in the U.S. from his youth.. he isnt fluent in korean.. however he plays crazy..

  • He DOES happen to be fluent in awesomeness.

  • yep, The Ytse Jam =)

i love that solo from myung

  • I agree to the speaker above :). He is not a solo kinda bassplayer, at least not when it comes to fast parts.

  • I prefer his cool riffs, much better than his solos! Just like this one, they're mostly scale wankin' as fast has he can play - but no real melodic content or any interesting ideas. I'm not saying I can do better, because his technique is far better than mine will ever be, but I think his solos are boring to watch (unless you like speed just for the sake of it). This particular clip is from the "Images & Words - Live in Tokyo" home video/DVD by the way, which is awesome!

  • i totally disagree with u man.....i think he compose great...this solo is very good with this song...it gives some progressive stuff to it....mmmm :(

  • ytse jam

  • oh damn....

  • ytse jam...

  • i think the ytse jam song

  • it is from a song but i cant remember which.

the bass has 6 strings, if u stop the clip at 13 seconds you can count :)

  • 6 strings

  • @CiCaesar Ytse Jam

  • @CiCaesar 4 years late but this is YTSE Jam =p =p

  • is that from an actual song? and how many strings is that bass?

  • this bass has six strings, but john can play the chapman stick with 12 strings too...

However the live was recordered in tokio on 1993; the song is called Ytse Jam,....

ah, the instrument is a bass "Ampere"...

  • AWESOME!
