NC is too yellow for me, NW is too red. I have to mix NC50 and NW45. Same with Makeup Forever.. I mix 70 and 75. I have to mix Bobbi Brown as well. I have never found 1 color that matches me.

I'm so glad I found ur channel. I have a question I checked my veins and I'm getting 2 different colors. In some places they are green but in other places they look blue or purple just darker then green. I have the MAC prolong conceler in NC45 which I thought matched me perfectly but after wearing it alone (no foundation) it looks too dark. My Revlon colorstay looks like its to dark or just somethings missing. I need help please tell me what I should do!!!!!!

@AngieA1311 You might have more than one undertone. I do. Depending on the season I can pull more yellow, red, or even orange (a mixture of the two). In this case, the best thing to do is mix foundations. Make sure to buy a foundation that you can try out before you purchase it. Iman has an amazing range of shades and undertones, MAC allows you to take a couple of samples to try out before you purchase, as do other cosmetic counters. I think you might just have to mix 2 colors together.

Thanks for the information! I think this might help me a bit because I've had the hardest time trying to find a matching drug store foundation, and I'm not even sure if going to a MAC counter will help cause I've seen them give pple the wrong color. lol So hopfully this will help guide me in the right direction.

@MizzNika87 heck ya!! they ALWAYS give people dark foundations! you end up looking orangey/chcolatey/tar like/dull..they ALWAYS choose the darkest color!

also, the lighting is dim as hell in the counter

Just a slight correction, because the whole blue blood thing is a misconception. Your blood is never blue. It is a brighter red when it is oxygenated, and a deeper colour when deoxygenated. So your veins carry darker blood and your arteries carry brighter blood, but it's always red. The blue colour is just a trick of optics based on the layers of tissue between the actual blood vessel and the skin surface.

Sorry if this felt like science class, I just thought I would clear that up.

@yanirocks1 you are completely correct! I wasn't actually speaking scientifically, more so just a quick tip to help people understand their skin undertone. Like you said, the blue color is a trick of optics, and those with yellow toned undertones' veins carry a "greenish" tone to the naked eye, and those with reddish undertones carry a more "purple to blue" tone. I was speaking in terms of color theory more than science just to clear that up :)

okay, I have yellow undertones like you too so I can I buy nc 45 in liquid too? what are some other colors by mac that I can wear since I have heavy yellow undertones with brown skin?

@AmandaRayne123 you may be able to wear nc45 foundation but you might want to go get color matched because you could be an nc44 or nc50 you never know. i can't tell you right off the bat without seeing you. also, you don't have to limit yourself to mac foundations. makeup forever, smashbox, and iman all have beautiful foundations for women of color, and women with yellow undertones. any extra questions hit my inbox :)

Thank u so very much for this. I went to the mac counter an Im pretty new to makeup period. Instantly Nw45. After a week I took it back. I was so red. Tried NW43 still red. I tried revlon in caramel/400, perfect color without mixing it. U have no idea how much you've helped.

@PrincessDyah You might need to mix red and yellow undertoned foundation to get the perfect color. sometimes we tend to have both in different areas of our face. or even wear a yellow foundation with a powder that has a red undertone to balance it out. hth :)

Ur video was so helpful I'm an american of mexican decent and always have so much trouble determining the right foundation. They always try to give me brown shades when I really have more yellow undertones. Now when I shop for makeup I will at least know what colors I should steer towards Thanks:)
