Great job, I have a friend who is entirely smitten with this song, I shall pass on the tab info to him. Bruce Molsky does a hell of a good job with it on his CD Soon to be Time.
Great playing! Besides reading about Callicott's connection to Burnside and Belfour as described by you, I've also read that on numerous websites. I'm not a musician, so I may be wrong, but I don't hear any connection between Callicott's music and that of Burnside.
Callicott's playing sounds more like John Hurt's to me than it does Burnside. Burnside comes across as a McDowell-ish player. Perhaps Callicott was born and lived in the Hill Country, but didn't play in the Hill Country style? Correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm not a musician.
Tremendous, and inspiring. Thanks. After 45 years playing (same as you here, 12-string tuned down), I never figured out that neat trick you do crossing your index over to the first-string first-fret variation to funkify your D chord. I couldn't buy good advice like that and it's free here on YT.
YOU spent time hangin round down at the crossroads. It just don't get no lower. And so clean on a 12 string. (I wear my hair; long in the back, and clear in the front. Don't do this often.)

PS.... Dropped D (tuned down one step)? Would that therefore be - Dropped C?
granniejans 4 years ago
Theoreticly yes, dropped C# to be exact, but it makes more sense to indicate the position it's played in and that's D.
