Because it's a wildlife preserve. Means nothing to Big Oil & their servants - the GOP. But the long term job creation for America will depend on amending trade agreements, education, and development of new manufacturing processes that can't be outsourced. Drilling in the wildlife preserve is not even a drop in the bucket, and a temporary one at that.
Oil exploration is capital intensive, but less labor intensive than most other manufacturing industries. Go research it if you don't believe me. I did just that a few months ago, but I'm not going to go back now & look it all up for you.

As for "cap & trade", that's a whole book of arguments & counter arguments. One thing it does make clear is that Obama was serious about doing something about global warming, another issue the GOP ignores.
1) Offshore drilling is a state by state decision. 2) The GOP wanted to allow drilling in wildlife preserves, of course, because GOP always listens to the Big Oil corporations. It would only delay the process of running out of oil, it wouldn't prevent it.
3) The GOP gutted funding for alternative energy research & subsidies for those manufacturing "green" technologies.
But there is no sense talking about this issue anymore because you have pretty much made up your mind about Obama and the democrats being right about everything. Actually, Obama got elected because the majority of Americans shared his vision of finally confronting issues that had been ignored by the previous admin., including: h.c. reform, less confrontational foreign policy, reducing Americas dependence on foreign oil, investment to grow the manufacturing sector by becoming a leader in "green" technologies, to name a few.

The price difference is that the people who can't afford and the companies that refuse to go along with this bill are the ones who pay the fines/tax to make this bill come in under 900 billion dollars. They counted on these people to meet this demand. Fines were never included in the "900 bilion $ (1 billion/yr) calculation. Also, small businesses are exempted from the mandatory requirements that apply to larger businesses, and the bill also includes premium subsidies for low income individuals.
If you read the senate bill there is a clause that says a health board will determine preventative care and cost care. That is RATIONING, Great Britain has the same board. The democrats have said that they knew premiums would go up across the board, Pelosi refused to answer questions about possible jail time for people who can't afford health insurance, The house bill will cost 1.05 trillion dollars, but the dems say it came in at under 900 billion dollars and will cover 96% of americans. cont.
The health board will insure that insurance plans cover preventative care procedures that are shown to be cost effective. That's a plus and to everyone's benefit. Of course the GOP twists that into something sinister, & of course some people like you swallow the GOP spin hook, line & sinker.
As for premiums going up, of course they will go up. Without h.c. reform they will go up a lot more, because the h.c. reform bill includes cost saving measures like the focus on preventative care.

We are in such a financial mess due to the way our previous administrations delt with our money that the only way we are going to get out of this is to be taxed. Sorry but it has to come somewhere and I really doubt if Bush and his buddies are going to give it back. This bill will save overall money and provide a chance at healthcare for all. The bill also creates an insurance plan "exchange" that would a) give individuals & small businesses a mechanism to "pool" their purchasing power in order to reduce costs, and b) effectively allows cross-state competition in h.c. insurance.
The bills also makes changes to the h.c. delivery systems by reimbursement based on the medical condition, not the number of procedures done. The intent is to incentivize doctor & hospitals to be more effective in treating the medical condition in order to reduce costs.

That would be for companies with more than 50 employees, i.e. large companies. Also, that is $750 per person, the fine - not as small as what you make it sound like. Lastly you don't mention the bad PR such a company would incur from paying this fine.

Private health care premiums continue to increase an average of $1500/yr. & will hit $30,000/yr within a decade.
The fines you mention kinda pale in comparison.

The "exchange" is the different form of the public options. Not any and every provider are allowed to take part. Only providers such as AARP and those government subsidies providers.
Employer's are trending to cutting rising premium costs by not giving salary increases and by changing to less costly insurance plans with less coverage and higher deductibles & co-payments.

1) Offshore drilling is a state by state decision. 2) The GOP wanted to allow drilling in wildlife preserves, of course, because GOP always listens to the Big Oil corporations. It would only delay the process of running out of oil, it wouldn't prevent it.

Fines were never included in the "900 bilion $ (1 billion/yr) calculation. Also, small businesses are exempted from the mandatory requirements that apply to larger businesses, and the bill also includes premium subsidies for low income individuals.

The health board will insure that insurance plans cover preventative care procedures that are shown to be cost effective. That's a plus and to everyone's benefit. Of course the GOP twists that into something sinister, & of course some people like you swallow the GOP spin hook, line & sinker.
As for premiums going up, of course they will go up. Without h.c. reform they will go up a lot more, because the h.c. reform bill includes cost saving measures like the focus on preventative care.

We are in such a financial mess due to the way our previous administrations delt with our money that the only way we are going to get out of this is to be taxed. Sorry but it has to come somewhere and I really doubt if Bush and his buddies are going to give it back. This bill will save overall money and provide a chance at healthcare for all. The one that do now pay anywheres of $5000 to $12000 a year.
It'll be cheaper for companies to pay $750 a year and save all that money and just tell their empolyees get on the public option if they wnat healthcare.

First and foremost I never said the GOP got it right.I am all for healthcare reform, but this bill is not it.Your pres. voted 11 times against healthcare. This is exactly what he said is wrong for the american people when he was running for pres., now he wants it.You are right that this video doesn't talk about the entire bill, but the dems. have not talked about the entire bill either and refuse to talk about the fines/taxes and jail time, they also admitted prices would go up.

America, a country that was once based on one's merits, has been fundamentally transformed into a country where the limits of one's failures will never reach a ceiling.
What incentive will there be to work if everything is given to us? What will be produced if workers disappear? What happens to an economy if it's GDP growth that rests more on spending and consumption as opposed to production, loses it's ability to consume and when will there be enough spending?!?!

The vast majority of nonpartisan polls show on average 50% to 60% are against the proposals offered by the Obama administration, Reid, Pelosi, and other democrats.
To the GOP's credit they proposed ideas that would drive down costs while maintaining a fiscal equilibrium of sorts ..... but to no avail ... the FASCIST progressive democrats shut the door of bipartisanship right in the face of the GOP because they believe ALL Americans should take part in murdering babies and providing handouts.

If we don't start building this public health care infrastructure right now properly, we have to go to other countries for it. You know how bosses shifting burdens for profits, don't you? The Republicans need to quit being anti-american as the American people have spoken! This is long overdue and was decided at our Presidents election. Accept it as the majority has spoken.
We need a single payer system for all but at least this is a start that we can build on as Blue Cross and others have bankrupted America,it's citizens, and employers with their crap insurance full of loopholes. I'm glad they are finally going after this crooked industry and soon, will go after all the crooks.

The health care reforms are essential for well being of our country, and thats the only way we can bring spending under control. Even the Republicans agree with that. Its just that they're too far into pockets of lobbyist that they have to oppose this bill or they wont their next check.
BTW, tell me if the trillion+ dollars that we have spent so far in Iraq and Afghanistan is money well spent?

Tell that to the millions of Americans without h.c. insurance. Tell it to your children when they are saddled with horrendously high health care insurance premiums.
Tell it to the families of those who died from delaying seeing a doctor because they didn't have h.c. insurance. Tell it to those working people who had h.c. insurance but still went bankrupt from h.c. costs.
& tell it to all Americans who struggle with rising premiums & h.c. costs.

Unemployment, food bank line ups, and unenthusiastic charities feature our year end holidays.

1), The h.c. bill eliminates the "doughnut hole" for seniors. 2). The "cut's to medicare" are not cuts to services but anticipated savings from reducing waste & inefficiency, such as eliminating the taxpayer subsidies to insurance companies for providing the same services as medicare but with a 14% cost surcharge for insurance co. "subsidy". 3) the greatest danger to medicare services is the increasing h.c. costs if nothing is done to "bend the curve".
