  • Kinda useless if you can't actually RIDE IT.

  • Good, I like that you share this video, I wish success always Watch a car break the speed record for solar-powered vehicles.

  • Nice Video That You Share , So Very Nice Thanks You Watch a car break the speed record for solar-powered vehicles.

  • I Really Like The Video From Your Watch a car break the speed record for solar-powered vehicles.

  • Your Video Is Very Useful Sharing Watch a car break the speed record for solar-powered vehicles.

  • 88kph fastest solar powered vehicle at this time "heart sink's"

  • SHIT CLOUDS!!!!

  • Where is the seat for your top model girlfriend?

  • but the question is.... will it blend?

  • Fastest Solar Cars:

    1) Australia

    2) California

    3)_________

  • not the fastest...

  • How about you just make me some burgers!

  • but how does one drive it its so small!?!?

  • That panel looks dangerously curved.. like an aeroplane wing. Is it providing lift I wonder?

  • I'm very annoyed by this idea and video. Even though I'm president of Triangulation Solar Vehicles and World Races, I could never tought this vehicle as practical. Who cares if it's fast if it wouldn't hold a cat inside??

  • @newscientistvideo Ahoy, Macgregor Campbell... G'day. Nice clip. Thanks for making & posting.

To streamline PV Panels I build them into a faceted aerofoil. To cool it, the enclosed PV is ventilated & Thermosyphons the heat away, when stationary. At 100 Km/Hr, the inlets Ramscoop 1.4 Bar. to the BoundaryL. Airflow-Control Vents - 2 prevent Trailing Facet stalling.(in Moonlight). Add full Sun, & search 'solar thermal ramjet'. Not a joke. Ciao !

  • Were making solar cars in My tech class. But they use small solar pannels, a small motor, and its made of wood

  • id still rather have a bugatti veyron

  • @CVRealMan do you watch top gear do you?

  • there's nobody inside it.

  • does it have a cup holder

  • @lordofchaos0333 I have to have my fucking cup holder or i am going to lose my fucking mind.

  • did they build that thing around the driver while he kept still ?

  • 88 kilometers per hour?! Now we just need some plutonium to generate 1.21 gigawatts of electricity!

  • @ALAPAT1 sorry you'll need 141.6km/h

  • @ALAPAT1 88 kph is less than 50 mph... still got a little bit to go...

  • @KridikJones No, 88kmh is 54.6806649mph, idiot.

  • @ALAPAT1 Miles aren't kilometers. We've got a ways to go.

  • imagine...never having to pay for gas. that would be a great day indeed!

  • yes but how could a toaster generate the necessary 1.21 gigawatts?

  • @kwkwkwa LOL and were can you put the flux capacitor

  • 0 to dork in 4.3 seconds

  • @ReefMimic thats epic!!!! ha ha ha!!!

  • call doc. emmet brown

  • imagine a car hitting one of those...

  • @SpazedGamer a car hitting a car?

  • looks like the homer

  • USELESS, HOW IS THIS GONNA HELP CURE CANCER?????

  • @Odslought solar powered -> no fossil fuels -> no dirty exhaust -> no dirty air -> no cancer

  • @defaultxr Factor in the supporting industries to manufacture the thing & its batteries.

  • Whats the point?

  • Comment removed

  • "same kind of power like toster"? Why u don't just say electricity? You think we are dumb, don't you?

  • @CrazyBejbi *Same amount* So about 3kW (of electricity). But, yeah, they should have quoted the kW figure.

  • @CrazyBejbi

    same "amount"

  • @CrazyBejbi lol he said same AMOUNT of power as a toaster

  • @CrazyBejbi lol, i do not think New Scientist think we are stupid. If someting does not make sense, i advice that you listen to it or read it once more before commenting about it. There is always the risk of having miss-understood or miss-heard something.

  • @CrazyBejbi I don't know about the voice-over, but I do think you're kind of dumb. Power is a more accurate term than 'electricity'. P = UI, or power = voltage * current (which is expressed in Watts).

  • i'd be scared to go 88 in that thing!

  • Where does the person go?

  • @scientolofag inside the solar powered car.

  • 141 Kilometers per Hour... holy crud!

  • @tetranoob

In the video they clearly say 88km/h, not 88mph.

  • @2KFC2 oops - Thank you for your correction :o)

  • This video was actually really intense.

  • Imagine farting in there while driving.

  • @BahoUtot more fuel i say :3

  • Until we reach the proper efficiency we will never go past 100mph

  • wooo, aussie.

  • I just don't see where a person fits in.

  • @ReasonSharp the person drives it

  • @roidroid Well, again - where does that person fit? The vehicle seems so small.

  • @ReasonSharp the driver's body sits in the large white section below the solar cells that houses the single rear wheel. The clearest side-on view seems to be at about 0:06

  • I't GREAT that were progressing, but there's NO WAY i'm gonna wanto sit in one of those things in a crash.

  • Beats paying $4.50 a gallon. Great video!!

  • Now if that thing could also make toast, that would be impressive.

  • lol and if you gave it over to the gov. like some wants nothing new will ever get developed, they'd just drag out the same old technologies... Good job!

  • @Johnrosssssss since this was developed in Australia, it's probably government funded.

    works just fine.

  • 100% free energy. I'll take one!

  • Does the driver pop out when it's finished of does he get burn beyond recognition.

  • Nice design very slim and streamlined. Not sure how old the solar tech is in that car. I'm wondering if they had the latest and greatest efficiency for lowest weight ratio solar cells. If not fitting it with newer ones might increase its speed even greater.

  • @jeffsadowski Hiya, I just wanted to point out that I believe the factor that affect top speed is the power to drag ratio(type thing) rather than power to weight ratio, so you don't need necessarily lighter panels, just more space efficient ones. Basically I'm saying denser panels would be fine if they produced more power.

  • Weight is proportional wheel drag. wheel drag >> air resistant drag. Besides that the the only thing you could decrease surface area on would be the solar cells. By decreasing the solar cell size you decrease power thus your stuck in the same situation. True enough it is power per drag ratio.

  • the record for a long distance run is still from 2005 at 103 km/h, by Dutch Nuna.

  • @lygophile the Nuna used solar cells AND BATTERIES.

This video however is pure solar, no batteries.

  • according to wikipedia, 88km/h was broken over ten years ago, and the record is somehwere over 100km/h.

    what's going on?

  • @lygophile most solar races use solar and solar-charged-batteries combined. That must be the 100km/h you were thinking of.

The run in this video however was powered by instantaneous on-board solar power alone, all of the cars had their batteries removed.

  • I haven't heard of this and i live in Australia

  • 88km/h with toaster power?

*has new respect for his toaster*

  • usually helps having a car that can turn

  • But will it blend ???

  • Yes, but can I pick up babes in it?

  • 1 bump on the road and you're dead

  • It's not exactly a car :/

  • This isn't a vehicle... it's a remote controlled toy car. Were is my steering wheel.

  • @ObliviuxProductions

you cant see the man sitting inside?... not exactly remote controlled

  • @bradconx

LOL that is HILARIOUS! ahahahahaha tiny man sitting in tiny capsule with some sort of goggles on

  • Oil industry did you understand that ?

  • That's fucking awsome. I want one. Any idea how much these would probably retail at?

  • Comment removed

  • @JackCarver10 and how do you intend to generate the 1.21 GW for the flux capacitor?? :D

  • @liquidus2172 By stuffing french toast up the cars exhaust pipes.

  • @liquidus2172

    That's 1,6214 Bhp :P

  • @vkorinfsky i see you learned how to convert units, good for you kido!

  • @JackCarver10 now time travel is eco-friendly!!!

  • @JackCarver10 Sorry, it was at kmh. No time travel just yet. :,(

  • @CommanderKairu Aww shit. Now we have to wait another decade.

  • @JackCarver10 and a bit of lightning :D

  • @JackCarver10 The car do not reach that speed. He says 88 km/h not mph. 88 km/h= 54.68mph.

    but i like your comment!

  • @JackCarver10 Dammit, the professor is stuck in the future!

  • @JackCarver10 it goes 88 Kph not mph

  • @JackCarver10 it goes 88 kph not mph. But whateva

  • @hippocampuszosterae Oh come on, about three people pointed it out to me now.

    I DON'T CARE

  • @JackCarver10 km/h, so 54 mph.

  • @MelleB90 Shut the fuck up, please.

  • @JackCarver10 >"Shut the fuck up, please"

    >"comment removed"

haha, looks like you finally took your own advice.

  • @roidroid I removed the comment everybody liked and commented trilion times a day, telling me that it's kph, not mph...

Reminds me of "gonjasufi - advice".

  • @JackCarver10 yeah i know, youtube is great you can actually go back in time and tell yourself to stfu, by deleting your own comment.

I'm still getting used to this ability myself.

  • @roidroid Well, I cleaned my mess up so no one would brag about it anymore... I shut THEM up.

  • @JackCarver10

and some plutonium too. or chuck norris

  • @plavins1 a face-lifted redhead freak will help this vehicle how exactly?

  • @JackCarver10 it's 88 km/h not mph xP

  • @JackCarver10 Don't know if anyone's told you but it's km/h not mp/h.

  • @aei05h1 Really funny. Go skate into an AIDS tree.

  • @JackCarver10 AIDS tree??? Lol you retard haha.

  • lmao... not only does it run on the power of a toaster, but you can also feel like you're squished inside of a toaster when you ride it!

    Toasters are the future.

  • australia FTW

  • Where do I stash the groceries?

  • looks comfy

  • Only problem is that it isn't a car, it is a pod one person can ride in and I bet it is only for short skinny people.

  • @jbear0000 yeah it's not for fatties.

    they should be walking anyway

  • These solar panels suck, Better more efficient solar cells that convert more of the light spectrum into electricity are in development. Why bother to build a car powered with primitive shit photovoltaic cells?

  • @caseygtr baby steps, we're getting there

  • 88 km/h is very nice... but still need to get the 100 km/h to be a commercial option that compete against the old monsters...

  • finally a machine that lets me move my midgets from point a, to point b, at no cost.

  • But will it blend ?!!

  • Granted ya can't ride in that mawfucka

  • If you have a heavy lunch it goes down to 60kph

  • @ORACLE063 And if you are heavy metal it goes 40 km/h , he need music for the road man!

  • lol a toaster. solar aint going anywhere, guys.

  • Thats not a car, its a table.

  • Well just imagine what power can be drawn from solar cells in 20 Years. Even thou this might not be a "Car" as wen know it - it still moves at 88 Km/h just because the sun shines. Would you rather walk 300 km through a heated dessert road or move for "free" at 88 km/t. If we the Humans had started to research this much more intensely just 30 years ago we would be much further in terms of fossil free transport by now. Any speed record made by a solar cell car is thumps up from me.

  • @HesteBremse "If we the Humans" had to specify there huh?

  • Fastest I've ever been on my toaster before the cops pulled me over was 15kph. These guys are amazing!

  • Good work humanity... never thought id say that.

  • Dear Youtube,

The Like/Dislike system, I can live with. I've gotten used to it now.

The new comment layout, fine with me.

But THIS, is just too much too fake! The front page has completely lost it's orginized, simple layout!

I don't know where you get your ideas, but I think I speak for a big part of the community when I say, "Youtube, THIS SUCKS!"

I hate people who ask for thumbs up, but this is not meant to be funny. This is serious! Give this a thumbs up and copy/paste!

  • WTF?

The Dutch solar car Nuna 3 had a max of 130 km/h (81mp/h) and a average speed of 103km/h (64mph) over a 3021 km journey in australia.

How can this be a "record" ???

    please explain...

  • @rvdm88 Nuna 3 doesn't count because it was driven by a trained hamster!!

  • @arminask whahaha yeah those studens can be hamsters sometimes, especially if you set them loose in a supermarket!

  • @rvdm88 the Numa was powered by solar and batteries.

    it wasn't pure solar.

  • 88mph and a flux capacitor

  • How about from now on we'll call it a car if it can carry at least 2 passangers? This isnt even a bike!

  • Why do we still have gas powered cars?

  • @Ryan44567 do you have an electric car?

  • unmanned and needs very flat terrain. but a start i guess

  • For those who're wondering 88kilos = about 55mph. :)

  • @StarDr0ps 88 kilos = about 194 pounds

  • Would be cool if they could make a car powered by the sun

  • lol looks like a solar powered skate board...

  • sadly folks

this is the future of Formula One

  • @absolutmo you're wrong. search "eco one"

  • @IlersichProductions

Relax i was just joking, it wasn't meant to taken seriously.

  • Isn't that bigger than the Smart car?

  • is that a guy in there or R2-D2?

  • that is its speed without a human inside, nice try scientists

  • @DeagleBeagle you can see the human inside....

  • @DeagleBeagle idiot, you can clearly see the human inside driving it.

  • A very real danger with going so fast with these vehicles is the fact a wind gust can knock them over. These vehicles are so light, and have a such a large horizontal surface for the wind to get under, that this is becoming a problem...

Just look at what happened to one of the top favourites, the Belgian team, in the solar olympics last year...

  • watch me sit on it, and watch this junk go from 88kmph to 8kmph

  • great information! Now where is the geo thermal/ free energy car?

  • 10 more kilometers? When was the last record set?

  • The fastest car (bugatti veryon) is 4.7 times faster

  • @iCrazinessShow the bugatti veryon isnt the fastest the ssc ultimate aero is the world fastest production car

  • @tman6810 I know but most people think it is the Bugatti

  • @tman6810 You are wrong!!! Bugatti Veyron SS (super sport) IS the world fastest productoin car ever!!! Just google it! :-)

  • @tman6810, No that´s no longer true. Bugatti as build a special sports version of the Veyron that has 1200 Horse Power and goes 30 Km-faster. Bugatti is again the fastest.

  • sarcasim

  • yeah but a toaster doesnt need the sun the operate... soooo i vote toaster is more useful than this.

  • I assume there's a person in the tear-drop shaped compartment, yes? Just wondering, because 50-70kg makes a substantial difference as to how brilliant this is.
