Im not saying anything bad about this truck but i have a 2002 chevy silverado 1500 5.3 v8 and i was surprised how much balls this truck first had i bought it off someone who didnt know shit about his truck so first things first , changed oil to synthetic, k&n oil filter, popped in some e3 diamond fire performance spark plugs just in case maintenance wasnt done to this truck and god my truck peels the F*** out!! and im still waiting for my K&N air intake system i pick it up tomorrow i can just
I'm puzzled on how ppl say cai give more gas milage how? I thought if sensor reads more air going into engine its gona push more gas 2 so wouldn't it waste more gas I haven't seen a mod to improve mpg and hp the way I'm thinking shouldn't it be either or? Cuz if this we're tru I culd just add a big ass cam let more air in so wouldn't that save gas?? I know it wouldn't but that's how I'm seeing cai more hp less mgps...am I getin something wrong that cai are magic or something that they do both?
The website I have this part up on has it listed as K&N 77 Series High-Flow Performance Air Intake, but does not mention cold-air or increased gas mileage, is it the same part or a completely different filter?
you know you have to program it for it to work. its going to suck in the same amount of air as the stock one did unless you reprogram the trucks computer. if you don't then its pretty much just for looks
@Harvey238 about 2 more miles per gallon...maybe 3 mpg's at the most. the highest mark i got to was 22mpg's (not driving city and not accelerating fast)
@kevumowns sorry, i was not flooring it both times in this video and it was taken on different roads. i was attempting to record the intake noise from the engine but that did not catch as well as i wanted on my camera. (watching this video i personally cant tell any difference between the stock intake and the k&n intake...however in real life there is a very noticeable difference in throttle response, horsepower, and noise).
my dad has a big ass k&n on his 8.1l suburban, and man does that thing sound mean! if the engins running and your under the hood..................hang on
I've been wanting to get one of these, but I was told that they would ruin stock transmission and axle. But I don't know if thats true, can anyone clarify that for me?
@Silverado2010s i sold my truck last year. but i was as happy with from the day i got it to the day i sold it, haha. i highly recommend it! its pretty easy to install and there is a noticeable difference. good luck!
the crome pipe looks cool but it gets hot and doesnt cool down as fast as the plastic pipe. I the whole point is to get cool air in to your engine. K&N also makes a plastic one, but it has a smaller cone.
So what is the difference? I do not know how a crome pipe and a different air filter can really make a noticable difference. Does it? and is it worth the money? I think it is a bit of a gimmick.
The idea is that a chrome pipe has a lower surface roughness hence it does not restrict the flow of air as much as say a plastic pipe would. also the diameter is larger so there is a larger cross-sectional area for the air to move through. best improvement i could imagine is 5-10hp gain. also one should get a heat shield to wrap around the pipe of the air intake to reduce heat transfer from the surrounding engine, especially that hot radiator and condensor in the front of the car.
@rjone That makes sense but for that to be true then there would need to be less restriction for the air to escape. ? (exhaust). Anyway I have a Silverado wit a 5.3 and I am looking for a few thing that I can do to get a bit more power. It's not bad, but does't everyone always want more? I mean if I could afford it I would supercharge the dam thing. LOL
Yeah your right, thats why there really is not much point to increasing the incoming flow if you still have a restrictive stock exhaust system. Most people do the exhaust shortly after replacing the intake. i'd probably replace the air intake and then save up for a new exhaust, both headers and pipe. That would probably give you the extra boost you're looking for. :)
@300atsheridan yep more bang for your buck! only reason i'd take a supercharger over a turbo is because it has a way cooler name lol. or if it was free!
You know what can also help is put a MAF sensor from a 2002 Z06. And also keep the sensor clean from the oil in the K&N filter. Like clean it once a week with Mass Air Sensor spray cleaner.
@aaminjoshi91 yes! it got me over the 20mpg mark, lol. and i noticed it about 2 weeks after i installed it (because that was when i stopped the big accelerating and flooring on the highway, lol).
@RandomAXISfilms yeah lol i put mine in and got a 1.1 mpg increase and saw it a 2.3 mpg increase on the highway and it was still climbing when i got off since i went on for a short amount of time! i'm at 14.5 now from 13.2
i know..i said something about that in the side bar --->
in the end i thankfully didn't screw anything up. i sold my truck for $8000 and the buyers drove it to texas where it is living happily away from rough wisconsin winters and roads. (it has over 210,000mi on it too :P )
yes. this video doesn't do justice though. you can really tell the difference if you buy this and put it in your truck. just dont make a video of it or else it will turn out to be a fail! lol..watching this i cant tell any difference, which is very misleading and wrong.
soundss like an airplane. video tape the exhaust =] i luv that sound, but i can tell u got a nice truck and that air filter looks sick!! i got a ram air intake on my silverado
you will get better gas millage, but if thats the main reason you want to buy it, then i wouldn't recommend it. mainly because its not a BIG gas saver...
if you have a truck that gets 15, you might get 17mpg's at best? im not sure...
i just put the same K&N cold air intake system on my truck today. WOW. took me only 45 minutes to install. i noticed the acceleration was A LOT smoother and louder!!!
hell yea! i got the same thing on my truck. there is big difference in acceleration and horsepower! made my true duals with cherry bombs QUITE abit louder :D
just ordered a volant powercore intake for my 04 5.3 liter cant wait until it comes in im hoping it will make my straight pipes a lil louder hahaha. only paid $277 shipped to my door couldnt beleive how much cheaper autoanything is compared to some others
yes. you can tell (when driving it..not so sure about when you watch the video..) that there is more horsepower, torque, the throttle is more responsive, and it is louder-- (when accelerating).
