how come people tap with their fingers? whenever I tap I just use the edge of my pick, it makes a stronger sound and you dont have to move the pick out of your grip, seems like a much better way to do it but idk just my opinion
Ok, ok... guess I should have watched the end of this video... LOL That's how Kurt Mitchell explained it as well. Once again , great job!! I'm going to start back at lesson 1 and see if I can actually learn this.
Great video!! Sounds great! Just wondering if have ever seen how Kurt Mitchell does the very end ... not a whammy bar?? See 4:19 at this link youtube.com/watch?v=6j-_NSc5uuw . Not critizing at all, rather just wondering if you had ever seen it before.
OMG Thank you!! this was like completing the hardest workout ever and realizing this was so amazing and payed off so much. these eruption video lessons were THE best lesson vids i have ever seen. it was hard work, but i finally learned the song i have always wanted to learn. Thank you so much. u showed every note slowly, and with monk-like patience. keep up the great work, and keep making awesome vids:)

This is the best tutorial video on youtube. Because of you, I learned eruption note for note. I'm so happy that you made these videos. You should make more videos for other Van Halen songs like Panama, Hot for Teacher, Ice Cream Man, etc. Thanks so Much!
I am 14 with 3 years guitar experience. your videos on eruption helped me so much that i went to marveling at this masterpiece you played at the beginning to me and my friend both know all of eruption so we can play it in a school talent show. thank you very much, and rock on!
Pete, not only are you a phenomenal guitar player, but from all accounts you're such a great guy too. Thanks for posting this and sharing your talent.
Mano, thanks a load for these vids. It MUST have been a bitch putting this together so thanks for taking the time to do it. Now that its "under my fingers", the work starts now. Hello, metronome!
Dude, great 5 part instructional. I have been playing this since 79' and I have changed the way I play it over the years. hey man this is what I dream since I was young know how to play eruption. Thanks for the hard work and taking time to make this nice instructional video. You really play like Eddie every time I listen to it.
@evilguitarist1 i think your comment is good, you always need to hold the pick and tap with the middle finger so you will look like a bit of a fool half way through when you drop the pick by doing it wrong
Who are the 14 a-holes who don't like this? I may never learn how to play this amazing tune but at least this guy took his time to make these videos to show how he does it, and what did it cost? Some people are just losers - probably jealous that he shreds better than they do.
Thank you so much !!! I've had a few disheartening attempts at learning this over the years, now I've got it under my fingers it's just a matter of speeding/cleaning it up. You've reinvigorated my playing and boosted my confidence, Cheers , J

You really helped me with these videos by the way and thank you :D
awesome videos but honestly , not the better for me, I only wear my point finger to play solos, maybe the middle on, I cant use pick at all lol "like it" though :)
Wow! Finally I found out what happens on the final E note of the solo! How the hell did you figure that out?????????? Actually, great part of the success is the outstanding production of the albums with Ted Templeman. This guy seems to be a genius....
sinasl1 very nice man. Can you plz tell me since i m a beginner why my guitar doesnt tap? Its not my fault man i gave it to the store to set it up but still problem. Do you think its the wire? or Amp

@Trevs2132 Alright well yea do it the 2-5-9 (also the same thing as 9-2-5) way. If you watch my tapping video thats what it sounds like the 2-5-9 way.
I would offer that you might want to get miked up, potentially both your cab and your voice, so that your voice doesn't get drowned out by your guitar. Clarity suffered at times, in my judgment.
great lesson...I wouldn't be able to play eruption that well without this tutorial....thanks for taking the time to make this....I hope you upload more lessons...cheers!!!
I agree with the other comments - you have made the Best tutorial , also the best performance, and, the closest sound/tone on Eruption ever done. Excellent job, and
you've inspired me to learn it exactly verbatim as you have. Thanks much!
Thanks a million for the series of videos. Great instructions and great explanations to accompany the instruction. You have a great approach to teaching.
I have gone through all five videos and learned the notes, but now I just have to get the nuances down. That is definitely what makes it his solo, the swing and feel. Thanks for the great instruction, and for making this totally complex and original solo fairly easy to comprehend and eventually play. The right way that is. It is just too hard to get the bends and feel down through the tab. Best to see it played and watch the explanation off the actual fretboard. Excellent job. Thanks again.
well i have an epiphone les paul sunburst and the way i do it is i just do a harmonic on the 12th fret low e then i just continuously tune down the e string
If I had an eruption lesson on youtube right now.....I think I may go take it down because this lesson is about as good as you could imagine unless Ed did it himself. To honest and at the risk of being sacrilegious, Ed would probably say " oh yea that's how I did that " EVH RULES!
T H A N K Y O U!! For taking your time to REALLY do a proper job of teaching - and inspiring - us how to learn to play this ever-classic solo that for so many of us is what first spurred us to pick up a guitar and learn to play, man. EXCELLENT job!
Now I'm wondering, do YOU have any original solos of your own to share? I get the feeling you can come up with some cool stuff of your own..? Anyway, thanks again.
Best guitar lesson EVER!! I really appreciate you taking the time to do this. I've been playing guitar for over 15 year, and I remember, when I first started out, trying my hardest to play this by ear, but there were just some things my virgin ears just couldn't pick up. So I'd just fudge my way through it. I hadn't really played it ever since, up until now. Thanks!!
i learned eruption before this but this and i just needed help on one part but i ended up watching al these because it was so detailed and make me play it better
ok, so maybe I'll spend the next couple years learning this, but couldn't of even tried without your lessons.
This is the best sound i have heard for this, going to be a stretch for my inexpensive gear, but so many little tricks to learn in this it will really improve my playing.
dude. because of you i learned eruption in almost 1 day! i spent 2 hours watching your ids and practicing. i still got some mastering to do though. lol i wish my telly had a whammy.
Thanks so much!! This lesson is absolutely fantastic! I'm actually starting to get my brain and hands wrapped around this solo thanks to your excellent teaching!
and if you dont have a whammy bar i find that pushing on the back of the neck and the top of the body works pretty well for the whammy bar parts throughout the song
how come people tap with their fingers? whenever I tap I just use the edge of my pick, it makes a stronger sound and you dont have to move the pick out of your grip, seems like a much better way to do it but idk just my opinion

If I had an eruption lesson on youtube right now.....I think I may go take it down because this lesson is about as good as you could imagine unless Ed did it himself. To honest and at the risk of being sacrilegious, Ed would probably say " oh yea that's how I did that " EVH RULES!

what does he play @ 6:59 ? Is it just the open low E string or is it an E power chord? Can't hear what he says. But very good lesson anyway :)

Thanks!!

A phase 90. I believe Eddie used it on the High A parts and the tapping section.

ok, so maybe I'll spend the next couple years learning this, but couldn't of even tried without your lessons.
This is the best sound i have heard for this, going to be a stretch for my inexpensive gear, but so many little tricks to learn in this it will really improve my playing.
Cheers from the west coast of Canada

lol im cheap
i find that tuning the low e down works well too
i cant affor no delay watchamajiger
and if you dont have a whammy bar i find that pushing on the back of the neck and the top of the body works pretty well for the whammy bar parts throughout the song
