If you look closely at the vid, or look at the real cinematic from WC3 - TFT (Warcraft 3 - The Frozen Throne) you'll see that as soon as he touches the petal, where his thumb was, a black spot is spreading which corrupts the flower petal. It only shows how great Arthas' powers are when it comes to corruption. And, he's got 2 Acolytes following him. So we conclude that he's not thinking if he's doing the right thing, he's just looking at the praise he's getting for coming back.

when Arthas released Ner'zhul from he lil prison they were both betrayers to the legion.
One of the only that can beat Arthas is Sargeras.
Magtheridon the pit lord that ruled Outland for a few years got defeated and prisoned when Illidan wielder of the twinblades of azzinoth arrived.
Illidan pwns Maghteridon, Arthas pwns Illidan and Sargeras pwns Arthas.
