con't... why not have a public option that people can BUY into. A real option that can provide some real competition to the health INS companies. After all, the gov't works for the people. At least we have some say in the matter. Or you can leave it up to the private ins co's to take care of you. And btw, private ins CEO's make literally 100's of millions a year. How do you think they make that much? by providing great care? or by denying care?
1st, we Don't have a choice of health ins in the current state. Reason: how many people who Can afford health ins, Chooses Not to have it? You're kinda forced by the market to have INS...thus, you don't really have a choice in the matter.
2nd, look at the lobbying power of the Health ins companies.. With all the politicians they've "bought" off to cut off any type of free market competition, one could argue that we ARE under a gov't run health program....con't...
FOR PROFIT Health Care is certainly the single biggest GOVERNMENT & MEDIA SPONSORED RIP OFF OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. Why? It's all about escalating the profit margin locked in with your "employer" (by law) but when you lose your job... Don't negotiate with the GOP on this one!

STOP giving corporations bailouts without giving them to the people. STOP underfunding the military. "STOP underfunding the military. (The military is probably the only place wher the Free Markert works)" First of all, the military has nothing to do with anything remotely free market. Every hour that I work, the government steals from me to pay for destruction. There is nothing fee market about that. As for the demand to stop underfunding the military. That is perhaps the most absurd claim that I have ever heard. Get the military out of everywhere, and cut the funding to almost nothing!
To the person who condemned Canadian health care coverage. According to you, their system is bad. But US coverage ranks far worse than Canadas. In fact we rank at the bottom of most other wealthy, capitalistic countries on quality of care and costs. What does that say about us? That says when it comes to providing quality health care to our citizens, we can do better and the phenomenal success other countries have had should be a model for how we can improve ours.
To the person who posted keep the government out of his health care, does that mean you want to give up Medicare and Tri-care for vets? They are both government run programs. The Republicans way back since Reagan in the 60s have been trying to end these programs along with Social Security. They claim they are socialist. Everyone over 65 who agrees should give up Medicare and try to get private insurance and see how much coverage they end up with.
We need health care reform and that is the bottom line. Doing nothing is not an option anymore so why not take the time to get the facts.

Okay, you're crazy. But you don't have to let him manage it. Let the 47,000,000 decide for themselves as well whether or not to take the private option.
After all, why should anyone trust YOU to manage their healthcare?
I don't want to manage anybody's health care. Let them decide for themselves from the 1300 options in the private market., which they would have access to if the market was deregulated.
even if I choose to select a plan from one of the 1300 private insurers, I will still have to pay for the government option. Before long, I will be forced into the program.
You're already paying for the 47,000,000 when they use emergency rooms. Paying for preventative care at a doctor's office would be considerably cheaper.
I like Kucinich. He's a straight-shooter and does have balls for a Democrat. I agree with him on big issues like the War in Iraq, the drug war, and managed trade policy (idiotic things like NAFTA and the sovereignty-threatening WTO). But he's too far to left on most other things for me, esp. healthcare. Single-payer will DESTROY this country. Several Canadians go across the border just to get better care. But where would these people go if OUR system became just as fucked up?
Whoo, you're distorting again. We are ranked 27th globally in healthcare quality. The 26 countries ahead of us are all government run. Most have the choice of private insurance.
Healthcare insurance in this country is vastly distorted from what it should be. Insurance is supposed to pay for CATASTROPHIC costs! Yet patients all across the US expect insurers to pay for EVERYTHING, from physicals to routine treatments to prescription drugs. Why?? Are they REALLY that afraid of paying out of pocket, esp. people making 50-75 grand OR MORE? They should easily afford most of these costs. Insurance paying excessively insulates consumers from costs.
The gov't mandates way too much on insurers, and we foot the bill in the end. I mean, if I'm in one state, why should the insurers who operate and offer me plans only be able to offer what THAT particular state mandates? If I wanna buy a cheaper and more basic plan from, say, a libertarian state like NH, why shouldn't I? How is that fair to consumers? There are so many things gov't could do to reintroduce competition and choice, but a public option is not one of em.
Besides, the public option is only ONE more option. How is adding one more insurer POSSIBLY going to make competition go wild? I don't care if it's the gov't or a rich private insurer. It won't happen like that! Besides, you know the bureaucrats running the public option will do all they can to unfairly undercut private insurers because gov't can do things private can't, like not have to have profit. Gov't doesn't have to advertise. Gov't can set its prices as low as it wants.
"I'll pay insurance?" Do you know what the average family of 4 pays per month to a non-profit insurer? $1200. Still wanna pay? These costs have to be controlled, and a public option will provide the competition to do just that. Are you anywhere near 65 years old -- willing to give up your Medicare? How about putting that money into the stock market -- that would be a surer way to "pull the plug" on Gramma.
Private CANNOT compete with public.. The way the free market works is companies can lower their prices only to a minimum point of profit where they can still pay their employees and stay in business. A public government company however can stay in existance while running itself in debt with a negative net worth (see the post office or social security). These 2 forms cant fairly compete because even a badly run govt program could out compete the best company since it doesnt follow the same rules.
Dennis you might be good on foreign policy, however on domestic policy, not so good but you might be getting better. I like the part about no more insurance company subsidies.
I love reading people who get what is really going on and who they are paying so much for care to right now.
Its the insurance companies who prevent Care!!
And what would single payer care do for the private insurance companies? It would add Customers to them Growing their Profits over people!!..... through taxation which is even worse as they are taking another individuals private property.
Government Keeps the insurance companies running with their aid -- Keep speaking the truth
Whatever they do pass will include a national health card which is included in the bill. No one is complaining about that because the focus is on Health Care Reform. The card will be the big win because they haven't been successful with bills for a Real ID yet. This Card will have access to everything about you including your financial information, driving record, criminal history, property holdings etc....
If you say "it should be mandated, I hate government intervention" I agree! so why do we allow the Government to Protect the Insurance companies Forcing people to have their coverage?
You and I know Cancer Treatment is not viable without coverage unless if money is not a worry.
Why allow Insurance companies to jack the rates until people have to have it? -- Using governmental laws to Aid the growth of their customer base is Compulsion. People should not be forced to have insurace

Insurance is an added cost that Drives up rates for all people.
Insurance Laws set by GOVERNMENT with the Influence of the Corporations.
We lose out when we have officials who buckle to Wall Street - and we end up with Government Compulsion for Insurance using our own government on us.
I am not for single payer as it will only prop up Insurance companies like Medicare Part D did for Pharmaceutical companies
I want Government to Stop Protecting Wall Street.
Patriot4Liberty1776 2 years ago 2
yeah, you don't need insurance for basic care
raguv2000 2 years ago
Wrong --
Why are you conditions to need insurance for anything? Insurance prevents people from getting care.
Plastic Surgery is major surgery -- not covered and it goes down each year.
Laysk Eye is not covered and it continues to go down every year.
Why should you be a slave to the private corporations? It Drives up rates and should not be mandated to have through governments compulsion.
Patriot4Liberty1776 2 years ago 2
you might CHOOSE to get insurance to prevent the costs of a catastrophic injury, the same reason you get insurance for your house
insurance is just a risk management tool meant to decrease and stabilize risk at the expense of an average greater total cost
I didn't say it should be mandated, I hate government intervention
