How do you make the codecs appear in HyperCam? I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit and I have ffdshow installed. However, I can't select it in Hypercam. What do I need to do to be able to select it? Any idea?
@mankaran321 Of course, it's all I pretty much used. It's useful for any game you can *window* because otherwise to capture full screen you need to completely nullify any display hardware acceleration. Fraps is useful for full-screen games, but Hypercam has better performance often times with uncompressed RGB or MJPEG. If you have a lot of hard drive space to spare, record lossless and then encode to a very efficient lossy format. I only really recommend x264 for H.264 and XviD/DivX for Mpeg-4
how do i make it so my video dosnt go faster than my voice? because i done a video and the video was like faster than my voice... how do i make it go in time?
@therealslimshady121 Get Process Explorer and look at the CPU usage... if it exceeds the available amount for one or two cores, then that is why... it's skipping and dropping frames. Also, get FFDShow, if you use the wrong decoder then it causes problems with video playback.
I recommend you use a codec like XviD or Divx with the fastest settings, real-time for XviD with quantizer of 1-2 and Divx high performance or fastest with a quantizer of 1-2. (Anywhere within that range, including 1.5)
all goods i just umm changed the frames to like 7 and it worked so thx but didnt need all of that hahaha but cheerz anyway... also.... can u make a vid on how to use a editing program and like the link and shiz coz i dunno how to edit and shit :P request haha idc if you dont but just a thought :P
@therealslimshady121 The reason why that worked is because you reduced the amount of frames it had to compress every second, but by configuring the encoder you would be able to achieve faster compression to compress more frames. If you use a XviD or DivX with realtime settings then you can do 20-30 FPS without a problem, even while running games.
@TurtleInvasion There isn't a specific amount of time to record that you can set, and the amount that you CAN record is based on the bitrate (kilobits per second) on the video and the amount of hard drive space that you have.
Hypercam 3 can compress audio to Windows Media Audio at any supported bitrate, which saves a lot of space (usually audio takes more bitrate than video for compressed formats like XviD and Divx). I'll put up links for that soon enough.
@kyleapollocreed Record within constraints that your processor can actually accommodate. You need to reduce the framerate, change your bitrate and if your using XviD it's important to make the switch from the General encoding options to Real-Time.
@FrosDOwnz man how i change speed tell me more beacause verry good computers .. So i hope u can help me .. i will wait for answer.. Or send me a emai at

@driveandkill You cannot record full-screen games due to the Direct 3D overlay being recorded. The images are layered over a grey or black 'layer' which ends up being recorded.
It's a Windows application, and can probably be used on Mac and Linux by using Wine or something similar.
Consoles are not the same, so your not going to be able to do it unless you are able to run Ubuntu or some other Linux off the 360, which is possible probably, but Windows XP is not.
In short, install Linux and use WINE for this, then you can do it.
Try decreasing your recording area, framerate, changing your codec, and adjusting your bitrate.
If your using Xvid you have to use real-time, if your using DivX you have to set the encoding mode to fastest. If your using any other codec then that is where your lag is from...
It depends what CPU you have, because that's the greatest factor in encoding speed.
You need to use the recommended codecs (DivX/XviD) and record a smaller screen area (resolution), record at a lower bitrate, and tweak any and all settings for performance (in DivX, check the tabs and set everything for speed, in XviD, change from general use to realtime encoding)
This issue has already been solved on my other video for Hypercam. It has to do with the compressor being used (DivX/Xvid recommended), framerate (15-30 FPS recommended), area (1024x768 or less recommended), bitrate (800-2500 recommended), and whether sound is being recorded. If you are recording sound, 16-bit 22050 hz will suffice if you don't need the absolute highest sound quality, and it takes half the CPU usage and file size of 44100 hz.
So quick question, for some odd reason when I record a video it will not safe and I cannot figure out what is going on. I never had this issue on my old computer.
HyperCam sucks!! When your recording a video using hypercam your computer will get so slow and when your done with the video and played it... the video turns fast!!
dude i try to look at my video to see a preview of my video but all it shows is a black screen help me please i already want to start my fire red walkthrough
Check out my hypercam2 turtorial plz! It explains it better and is more clear. and if you have questions about how to record a game ask on comments :) I know.
I understand everything else,But the problem for me is that when im trying to record a game or something the video goes mega fast and it doesnt looks so well how can i slow down the show performance?
This is a common problem. I've had it myself, what it means is your using too much CPU for encoding to be done in real time, or your not using the correct codec. Check your framerate and video quality, also check your bitrate. Bitrate should be about 500-4000 and Framerate should only be between 15-30 (maybe more if your CPU is quick or multicore). If your using DivX or XviD for encoding this doesn't happen much.
Nahh Camtasia studio is kind of overcomplicated... I mean I don't need a fricken meteocre, weak, oversimplified editing program along WITH the screen recorder and a bunch of other feathers I'll never even think about.
Hypercam and Hypersnap DX are good when you need to make a screencapture quick and easy, I mean... just start and hotkey, then select area and begin.
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file. is what is said... WTF!!!?!?!?
I'd only recommend it if you really needed to record the whole screen and you had a fast cpu, otherwise just record a smaller area or enable the pan so you can move the area with the mouse.
Xvid 1.2.1 takes about 500 KB of space, to make movies it depends on the bitrate, but good quality rests at about 3-6 MB (around 400-800 kb/s or quantizer 3-6) a minute. Hypercam 2 audio is uncompressed for fastest speed, 44100 hz 16 bit audio (full wav quality) is at 1400 kb/s
The initial movies don't take very much compared to Fraps or Uncompressed and can have very good quality (and sometimes use even less CPU than fraps) but if you get VirtualDub and K-Lite Mega Codec Pack or at least Lame ACM Codec then you would be able to compress the audio stream to mp3 128kb/s or 124/130 kb/s avg variable. When compressing in Xvid you can use 2 pass to get a certain size (check VirtualDub tutorial) and you can use bitrate and quality. lots of processing features and filters.
Note: Use the Hypercam I have provided in the video description (link to hosted file on Mediafire). There is a good reason why ;) (No registration nag at top left of screen)
It's a zip file, on Windows it should appear as a manilla folder with a zip, all you do is double click it to open it, and select and drag the contents into another folder.
From there you open Hypercam, and you can follow the steps of this video.
hey I have a problem dude when im trying to make a trailer for medieval 2 total war i have to record some stuff but when i press F2 it doesn't turn on WHAT DO I DO???!!! :(
Well sometimes programs will be using the same hotkeys as Hypercam does and Hypercam won't be able to register and use those specific hotkeys, try changing the hotkey to something like CRTL-R. See if this works.
i have problems when creating a video using full frames (uncompressed). with that codec, i can only record short videos of the movie i want. if i recxord a bigger video, when i try to open the AVI file, it doesn't let me. i tried with no sound, same thing. but with FFDShow i can record it no problem, but graphics are lot worse. any help? i really don't know why this happens.
Full Frames (Uncompressed) isn't recommended, it uses A LARGE amount of disk and a mid amount of CPU (it doesn't use much CPU but dumps an uncompressed HUGE .AVI file onto disk), and FFDshow you need to set quantizer to 1 or bitrate to 500-900+, Also try to use Mpeg-4 or Xvid in FFDShow.
What I recommend is that you get the K-lite Mega Codec Pack which comes with Xvid and Divx, or you get the latest version of Xvid (1.2.1)
For Xvid I didn't have enough time to include it in the tutorial, but I'm going to give a quick summary. First click configure this compressor. You click the box that says bitrate or quantizer to switch it between each, and bitrate is the constant amount of info its limited to, while quantizer is a quality setting with no definite bitrate (variable for possibly better quality), you can switch the encoder preset from realtime and general, and in other options uncheck display encoding status.
You might want to lower the framerate, increase the bitrate, and in sound you want it set to 16 bit 22050 hz and lastly reduce the area of which your encoding so this way the encoder won't strain the CPU too much and cause it to skip everything.
i have a problem. when i record with my hypercam 2, the main thing i record is a game called RuneScape and when i do i set my frames per sec to 10 but the thing is it often gets blurry then, so i set it to 20 to see the consequensec but wen i did that it just froze up wen i tried 2 record. im not shure wat i should do. u no how to fix this?
The reason why it's blurry is because you didn't set up the encoder right.
Get XviD Codec 1.1.3 or whatever is the latest, and set the quantizer to 1 - 5 or so in codec options. Then set the framerate to about 15 and it should work fine, unless your cpu sucks.
sry for asking a lot but im not sure if you dont know this but when i record with the settings you told me the vid well when i record and watcht eh vid the screen jumps up and down anyway to have good quality sound and record a large place or you have to use a diffent codec
Hmm does it always do that? It may be the size at which your recording if it really puts strain on the CPU then the encoding may come out all fucked up. I've never really had any weird problems.
Yes I think that was intentional, that XviD was made after DivX, it was a free and open source alternative and now it's better than the commercial version because it can be worked on by anybody, it's faster at encoding, and it has more quality for less space :P.
oh btw when i record with divx i cant record like a big screen(like a window browser full screen) it saids compress failed or somethin you got any answers, and also lol which one is better for quality and sound cause i hear a very low sound is it probobyly because my laptop has a built in mic and uses that to hear the sound or etc thanx if u can reply back
DivX needs to be set to encode faster before you can start recording large areas, and if your on XP theres a speaker like icon in the taskbar, the bottom right corner of the screen, double click it, go to options, properties, see if you can change the mixer device, make sure stereo mix is checked below "show the following volume controls", click ok, mute or unmut microphone and mute or unmute stereo mix depending. check to see if there is recording volume.
The settings in DivX are to set the certification profile to 1080HD profile, encoding presets then set to speed sometimes helps, rate control mode should be set to 1 pass quality based at 1, in the codec tab the encoding mode should be set to fastest, enhanced multithreading if you have a hyperthreading, dual or quad core cpu, and resizing in video sometimes helps.
thanx but the 1st reply doesnt work cause it mutes everytythin when im recording w/e but ur 2nd reply can you still have High quality while have a big screen recording and faster or can it be recording whole screen and kinda slow vid? thanx for replying
Not exactly sure if it would, doesn't sound like it would since the Wii doesn't have a windows based operating system or CPU of PC architecture. Even then you'd have to run it windowed somehow and for fullscreen you'd need fraps, not gonna work.
lol, Your welcome, I'm going to make more video tutorials later on on how to do all sorts of stuff people have trouble with, my next may either be on Project 64, or... OVERCLOCKING!!!
Here is where I need help with: I play a game named warrock and it takes the whole screen up. I can't start or stop a video when I am playing warrock so I have to press start and then press F2. Why can't I press F2 when I am playing WarRock?
WarRock probably registers F2 for some other function, to check it go into the controls if it has any and see if anythings registered for F2, also press Alt-Enter or check the options and video, display or graphics and see if theres an option for fullscreen (with a check box by it that you uncheck) or windowed mode. Also crank the resolution down to 800x600 or 1024x768 when recording...

This issue has already been solved on my other video for Hypercam. It has to do with the compressor being used (DivX/Xvid recommended), framerate (15-30 FPS recommended), area (1024x768 or less recommended), bitrate (800-2500 recommended), and whether sound is being recorded. If you are recording sound, 16-bit 22050 hz will suffice if you don't need the absolute highest sound quality, and it takes half the CPU usage and file size of 44100 hz.

how do speed up and slow down the video please answer quickly i want it to go in fast and slow motion
teamextremethehardys 3 years ago
Get a program called VirtualDub, in video you can choose filters, frame rate (change to speed or slow) and compression. Then same for audio.
I have a tutorial on VirtualDub.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
dude, your vid rocks,And to nintendomaster-i ask the same question!
But thanks for the vid-keep it up-I LOVE YOUR VIDS!

Thanks for the support!
I will keep on making more good tutorials and stuff, just subscribe and they'll all come around.
I just got a mini-DV camcorder so making REAL videos of myself will be very easy.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
Hey, I have it set but there is a DivX watermark in the corner. Is there any way I can get rid of it?
NintendoMaster66 3 years ago
there are 2 things you could do, Uninstall DivX and Install it from the K-Lite Mega Pack, OR I can send you a message to fix that.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
hey im havin sum trouble with it. the picture is pretty unfocused as u can see if u look at my video. wat should i do?
PacManAwsome 3 years ago
so how much?!
thepwner99 3 years ago
With Hypercam 2 and XviD its just 2 megabytes.
VirtualDub 1.9.0 and Lame ACM Codec are another 2 MB.
The videos made completely vary, for Hypercam 2 just 1 minute 640x480 will be about 5-15 MB, for Fraps just 1 minute 640x480 will be about 200-300 MB.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
how much space is it?
thepwner99 3 years ago
Hypercam 2 takes 1 MB of space and is portable.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
The initial movies don't take very much compared to Fraps or Uncompressed and can have very good quality (and sometimes use even less CPU than fraps) but if you get VirtualDub and K-Lite Mega Codec Pack or at least Lame ACM Codec then you would be able to compress the audio stream to mp3 128kb/s or 124/130 kb/s avg variable. When compressing in Xvid you can use 2 pass to get a certain size (check VirtualDub tutorial) and you can use bitrate and quality. lots of processing features and filters.

Could you help me? When i do a video. Then when i look at it It goes really fast. Am i doing something wrong?
nicholas1uusi 3 years ago
It's taking too much CPU then.
What you want to do is use a less intensive codec like DivX or FFDShow
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
dude,everytime after i record,then i play it,it shows 20 seconds of blackness,i see nothing!!
its juz plain black and i can hear my mouse clicking
:(
bluedrag3 3 years ago
What settings are you using?
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
Note: Use the Hypercam I have provided in the video description (link to hosted file on Mediafire). There is a good reason why ;) (No registration nag at top left of screen)
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
Hello everyone that watches this video. The video codecs I recommend most are:
FFDShow (The latest build you can get)
Xvid (The latest build you can get, right now version 1.2.1)
and DivX 6+.
In order to get all of these and many more great Video encoders/compressors and decoders/decompressors get K-Lite Full or Mega Codec packs.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
hey i downloaded it but i dont know wat to do after that plz help me :(
mariusuploader 3 years ago
It's a zip file, on Windows it should appear as a manilla folder with a zip, all you do is double click it to open it, and select and drag the contents into another folder.
From there you open Hypercam, and you can follow the steps of this video.

hey I have a problem dude when im trying to make a trailer for medieval 2 total war i have to record some stuff but when i press F2 it doesn't turn on WHAT DO I DO???!!! :(
MillionBaks 3 years ago
Well sometimes programs will be using the same hotkeys as Hypercam does and Hypercam won't be able to register and use those specific hotkeys, try changing the hotkey to something like CRTL-R. See if this works.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
THanks it worked your awesome

i have problems when creating a video using full frames (uncompressed). with that codec, i can only record short videos of the movie i want. if i recxord a bigger video, when i try to open the AVI file, it doesn't let me. i tried with no sound, same thing. but with FFDShow i can record it no problem, but graphics are lot worse. any help? i really don't know why this happens.
SnakNask 3 years ago
Full Frames (Uncompressed) isn't recommended, it uses A LARGE amount of disk and a mid amount of CPU (it doesn't use much CPU but dumps an uncompressed HUGE .AVI file onto disk), and FFDshow you need to set quantizer to 1 or bitrate to 500-900+, Also try to use Mpeg-4 or Xvid in FFDShow.
What I recommend is that you get the K-lite Mega Codec Pack which comes with Xvid and Divx, or you get the latest version of Xvid (1.2.1)
See if this works.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
thanks dude... im kinda stuck on the avi file setings and stuff.... like how 2 con figger it some help maybe??
holyguitar90 3 years ago
For Xvid I didn't have enough time to include it in the tutorial, but I'm going to give a quick summary. First click configure this compressor. You click the box that says bitrate or quantizer to switch it between each, and bitrate is the constant amount of info its limited to, while quantizer is a quality setting with no definite bitrate (variable for possibly better quality), you can switch the encoder preset from realtime and general, and in other options uncheck display encoding status.

How do you zoom in on the hypercam. Cause I need to get a good picture. Please Help!!
ComrevenPKING 3 years ago
Don't select all of your desktop, select smaller areas, and if needed, use virtual dub or some editing software to crop/zoom in
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
On your videos use select a smaller area!!!

thanks your video helped me out
DavidOates15 3 years ago
how do u lower the speed cuz wen i watch it its fast
champz12 3 years ago
You might want to lower the framerate, increase the bitrate, and in sound you want it set to 16 bit 22050 hz and lastly reduce the area of which your encoding so this way the encoder won't strain the CPU too much and cause it to skip everything.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
I found Xvid does that in cpu intensive situations, get divx and set it to realtime, and quality from 1-4 and then it should work perfectly.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
i have a problem. when i record with my hypercam 2, the main thing i record is a game called RuneScape and when i do i set my frames per sec to 10 but the thing is it often gets blurry then, so i set it to 20 to see the consequensec but wen i did that it just froze up wen i tried 2 record. im not shure wat i should do. u no how to fix this?
Shorty12456 3 years ago
The reason why it's blurry is because you didn't set up the encoder right.
Get XviD Codec 1.1.3 or whatever is the latest, and set the quantizer to 1 - 5 or so in codec options. Then set the framerate to about 15 and it should work fine, unless your cpu sucks.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
sry for asking a lot but im not sure if you dont know this but when i record with the settings you told me the vid well when i record and watcht eh vid the screen jumps up and down anyway to have good quality sound and record a large place or you have to use a diffent codec
boosmart 3 years ago
Hmm does it always do that? It may be the size at which your recording if it really puts strain on the CPU then the encoding may come out all fucked up. I've never really had any weird problems.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
lol you know whats funny spell Divx backwards u get Xvid lol oh and thanx tyvm
boosmart 3 years ago
Yes I think that was intentional, that XviD was made after DivX, it was a free and open source alternative and now it's better than the commercial version because it can be worked on by anybody, it's faster at encoding, and it has more quality for less space :P.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
oh btw when i record with divx i cant record like a big screen(like a window browser full screen) it saids compress failed or somethin you got any answers, and also lol which one is better for quality and sound cause i hear a very low sound is it probobyly because my laptop has a built in mic and uses that to hear the sound or etc thanx if u can reply back
boosmart 3 years ago
DivX needs to be set to encode faster before you can start recording large areas, and if your on XP theres a speaker like icon in the taskbar, the bottom right corner of the screen, double click it, go to options, properties, see if you can change the mixer device, make sure stereo mix is checked below "show the following volume controls", click ok, mute or unmut microphone and mute or unmute stereo mix depending. check to see if there is recording volume.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
The settings in DivX are to set the certification profile to 1080HD profile, encoding presets then set to speed sometimes helps, rate control mode should be set to 1 pass quality based at 1, in the codec tab the encoding mode should be set to fastest, enhanced multithreading if you have a hyperthreading, dual or quad core cpu, and resizing in video sometimes helps.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
thanx but the 1st reply doesnt work cause it mutes everytythin when im recording w/e but ur 2nd reply can you still have High quality while have a big screen recording and faster or can it be recording whole screen and kinda slow vid? thanx for replying
boosmart 3 years ago
can it work on wii?
c9j10 3 years ago
Not exactly sure if it would, doesn't sound like it would since the Wii doesn't have a windows based operating system or CPU of PC architecture. Even then you'd have to run it windowed somehow and for fullscreen you'd need fraps, not gonna work.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
my hypercam speeds everything up how can i slow it down like you.
gibsonrocker94 3 years ago
And the audio is out of sync? That's because the encoder can't keep up, Lower the framerate to about 15-20, or get DivX 6.8, msg me for the DivX
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
ok, i made a movie with HC2 yeah it saved it to my documents when i play it, it shows only black and gray, please some1 reply!! :

Here is where I need help with: I play a game named warrock and it takes the whole screen up. I can't start or stop a video when I am playing warrock so I have to press start and then press F2. Why can't I press F2 when I am playing WarRock?
KnightMark8 3 years ago
WarRock probably registers F2 for some other function, to check it go into the controls if it has any and see if anythings registered for F2, also press Alt-Enter or check the options and video, display or graphics and see if theres an option for fullscreen (with a check box by it that you uncheck) or windowed mode. Also crank the resolution down to 800x600 or 1024x768 when recording...

Ive download both Hypercam 2 and Div X but it wont let me choose Div X as a video compressor can you help?
twnke 3 years ago
It should, try reinstalling, if that doesn't work than get Xvid, Xvid has better quality at smaller sizes, but Divx can be faster, it depends.
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
Hypercam is a semi-free software, if you don't register it then it leaves a note on the top left corner that says "Unregistered hypercam"
FrosDOwnz 3 years ago
Use &fmt=18 if you can't see the text very well.
