Just because both parents are "black" doesn't mean that there is racial purity. Rarely is it pure so the likelihood of being 100% of anything is slim. As for the expression of genes that depends on many factors, for skin and eye color is controlled by a number of genes. On top of that, a group can have dominant traits but there are recessive ones as well.

Which is why some people should trace their whole lineage instead of the immediate because the immediate is important but the whole lineage gives you a picture. Heard somewhere oprah had native american and east asian in her lineage.

Like she said, maybe some where in her family's past there may have been some mixing, but she's black....african-american......or any other black group you can think of. @Longhairstile yea i know that is exactly why some ppl fall so easily for these scams, & the scammers do prey on their weaknesses. I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just stating the warning signs are there and for a good portion of them, they know & see that. But they'd like to believe that everything will be okay, which it could be, but sadly in these cases thats not the case. They take such a huge risks. Which is so scary.

Just because both parents are "black" doesn't mean that there is racial purity. Rarely is it pure so the likelihood of being 100% of anything is slim. As for the expression of genes that depends on many factors, for skin and eye color is controlled by a number of genes. On top of that, a group can have dominant traits but there are recessive ones as well.

Which is why some people should trace their whole lineage instead of the immediate because the immediate is important but the whole lineage gives you a picture. Heard somewhere oprah had native american and east asian in her lineage.

@kittymunch22, that doesn't mean that she is mixed because she has a different eye color. Like she said, maybe some where in her family's past there may have been some mixing, but she's black....african-american......or any other black group you can think of. Unfortunately, when the "pure Africans" came to America they were stripped of culture, heritage and purity (women), so we have a variety of colors within our community.

I don't quite buy her explanation that she just "wanted a change" and was afraid a haircut wouldn't come out right. I mean, if you are afraid of a botched haircut, shouldn't you be more afraid of a botched surgery? Also, if you wanted a drastic change such as a different eye color, why not just buy colored contacts? She obviously had some deeper issues that she didn't want to talk about on the show. Nonetheless I feel bad for her. She will be paying for this for the rest of her life.

@fadekeee I studied anthropology and genetics in college ! Pure blood African people can't have blue eyes, unless heavy mixing with Caucasian.. Do you understand that blue eyes appeared in Europe ? sometimes 10,000 yrs ago and it's a mutation and it happened because of the cold climate. Africans are dark because they live in sun non stop and it's also an adaptation. There is nothing wrong with being black, climate shapes people..is not our fault. cheers
