KYW Larry Kane Sign Off

Larry Kane has always been one of my favorites. It's a shame that he and another great anchor, the late Roger Grimsby from WABC NYC, had trouble getting along.

I'm reading Larry's book on the Beatles' tours in the '60's, and it's clear that Kane is a real pro--it's written with a serious, adult attitude toward the Beatles and their fame.

Larry Kane also traveled for the Beatles while was he working at WFUN in Miami. In fact, he had written a book about the Beatles' two tours in the U.S. & Canada. Very interesting to read.

Yeah Marc Howard was his replacement. Then if you remember they moved Marc who anchored the 11pm, and Denise who anchored the 6pm to the 4pm cast, and replaced them with Larry and Alicia. Denise is in Las Vegas as an Action News Anchor there.

Thanks. Yeah I do remember reading somewhere that Marc Howard didn't do so hot being the solo anchor of "Eyewitness News" @ 11. So Larry Kane spent his 9, almost 10? years on KYW anchoring the 11 pm newscast?

You're right. She was working with KTUD/KLAS before she went to KTNV, where she is now.

So when he retired, Denise Saunders was his co-anchor? I thought he was the solo anchor though.

KYW did a bunch of stupid things, i.e. that boring weather anchor with him too. It's a shame that his sendoff was with Denise Saunders (Who is lovely but not a prime-time major market anchor) and Chris Dunn (Philadelphia probably has forgotten him already)

Larry Mendte more or less replaced him. I believe it was 2002.

@tdog0022 Marc Howard did indeed replace him. KYW didn't like the ratings at 6 and 11, so he was replaced at 6 and 11 by Larry Mendte and Alycia Lane, and Marc was moved to the 4 PM newscast.
