It may not seem like it, but HRtP is one of the darkest Touhou games, considering the boss sprites...especially Sariel's and Konngara's. The story behind this game just makes it...bleh...you know? I mean, seriously? Reimu decides to go beat up various characters when they totally do not fit the story? I wish ZUN would explain what the heck was up with Kikuri and YuugenMagen...

Perhaps that is why the old Touhous were considered as "black history" (by ZUN himself?)

and the old characters (excluding Reimu, Marisa, Alice, Yuka) have little to no(?) hope of coming back to the "modern" Touhou ... (???)

Next one to say that Sariel is easier than Flandre will get shot. I swear. Flandre is IMO one of the easiest extra bosses in the whole damn series. If you don't know about the difficulties, then play the damn game.

HRtP can't really be compared to the other games IMO. its not a danmaku game like the others. (and don't get literal with the term danmaku. 2-12, excluding 7.5, 10.5, and 12.3, are all danmaku)

Flan is easier than Lunatic Remi once you figure her patterns. IN's extra is more fun than EoSD's

I wasn't referring to the genres the games are. I was referring to the raw difficulty of the actual game. The raw difficulty of HRtP puts it up to par with the other games as one the hardest TOUHOU games. There's a whole lot of other things to be considered to the different genres in the series, but that's another argument.

Most extra bosses are easier compared to Lunatic bosses, some easier than Hard bosses. I also agree with you about IN's extra.

the bosses in here are really hard, Makai Route (hell, heaven or demon world, i don't remember) are very hard, Elis, Kikuri, Sariel and Konnagara have great themes and they are very difficult, it is surely the hardest Touhou game in pc98.

I actually think it is the hardest Touhou game overall. Not only in the PC98 generation. Even though i clear Hard Modes and Extra Levels in the windows games i can't clear this on Easy so...

I've beaten both routes on normal, but I agree that it's very hard. That's probably because it's a completely different game from the others and admittingly isn't the best designed game in the series...

And it's not the Makai route, it's the Heaven route.
