I met Robert Goulet..my cousins had a restaurant near Melody Fair..where they had press conferences for the entertainers..He told me he thought I was attractive..I was only 19 or 20 at the time ..he won my heart over..he is also a very nice person too
.....Merry Christmas 2011 Bob....."if ever" there was an example of a man, you were it.....don't shed a tear there in heaven when you look down on the sad state of affairs regarding our contemporary music.....you have left us a legacy truly worth remembering dear man.....
I was fortunate enough to hear Robert Goulet in person in Las Vegas and I was mesmerized, even before he stopped at my table, took my hand, talked to me and kissed my forehead. WOW. I didn't wash my forehead for a week! lol His voice was so pure and powerful he didn't need a microphone.
Music usually doesn't touch me on a level such as to Make me stop and appreciate that I'm alive to listen to such Beauty...this is one of those songs. that just stops and makes me shed a few tears hearing such a beautiful song
@hawkwolf613 People who listen to rap, hip hop and dubstep that think the only good music is people bragging about either shooting people, being rich, getting drunk, or a wub noise being repeated over and over and over again.
I just saw Camelot at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and this was my favourite song of the entire show, partially because I fell in love with our cast's Lancelot... Unfortunately, there was no recording of the Stratford cast, so I've just been playing this video over and over and over, trying to satisfy my Lancelot cravings :)
I agree! I can't get enough of it. I play it over and over. Listen to Franco Nero's rendition from the movie "Camelot". He didn't actually sing it but his emotion is gut wrenching, tear provoking and unbelievably brilliant.
This is my favorite vesion of this song taken from the Broadway cast album. Goulet was just beginning his career and was at the top of his form. There is only one Lancelot and his name was Robert Goulet.
This is the song that made Robert Goulet a major star, from Camelot. Didn't he play Lancelot? A magnificent baritone, deep yet with a tenor-ish timbre on some notes.
Just like Camelot - this version is almost a fairy tale - what a talent Mr Robert Goulet- he also displayed a great wit when doing TV skits - God there was so much talent around in the 60's - both entertainers and writers, musicians etc ... today reality tv etc ... is just about killing real talent - hopefully it is just a phase - till then Mr Goulet and others alike are enjoyed on YouTube - thx for the post
@ahstc1973 I agree! Actors used to be multi-talented. Singers acted, actors sung, everyone could dance a bit. Reality TV makes me barf. I truly do not get it.
I remember this fantastic performance. My father took us to the Majestic theater in NYC to see Burton, Andrews and Goulet in Camelot. His voice was remarkable, along with Julie Andrews.
This is one of those rarest of recordings that virtually no one else remotely touches! Goulet's 'If ever' is beyond the epitome of perfection. The recording is impeccable as well. I don't think this version will ever be upstaged.
thank u so much for posting this :) i love this song with all my heart and got the amazing honor of being his granddaughter. im glad that even tho he is gone that his memory and the love from his fans with go on. may he rest in peace.
@Germaine52 You are right, most women are whores and sluts who trash marriage -- ending their short miserable existences as crack prostitutes dying in some toilet. That is why more men are turning queer these days. It MUST be true, I get my facts from the same crock that YOU do! OFLOL :D
PS -- But misogyny and misanthropy have nothing to do with Sir Robert Goulet's excellent voice and entertainment career.
I heard this song a while ago and forgot about it then I was watching the Simpsons and Homer began to sing it since then I keep listening to it over and over again.
Even as a kid, I loved listening to Robert Goulet sing--imagine in the late 50's and early 60's you had pop baritones of such caliber as Robert, Howard Keel, Gordon McRae, and John Raitt!
I saw Goulet when toured the country as Emile in 'South Pacific' in the 1980s.
He was in 50s but still annoyingly handsome and had tremendous power in his voice. It's too bad he never recorded "Some Enchanted Evening" and "This Nearly Was Mine". For those who claim he couldn't act; not true. He played it very well; nothing like his Vegas lounge act.
Once in a blue moon a voice like this comes along and you can't believe what you're hearing! One of THE best male voices I have EVER heard!! Thanks for posting. What a pleasure to listen to Robert Goulet!! Class act!!
My late father loved this version of the song by Robert Goulet, and I thank you for the chance to hear it, and reflect on hearing it in my house as a child on the old record player !!!
