before i die, i will drive along this road in my old mustang and listen to this song over and over and over and over and over again, then.... eat a legit chicago dog, and not an O'hairy chicago dog.
Simply...a classic Chicago song about a classic Chicago landmark. Loved it since I was a kid. That piano rift sticks in your head for the rest of your life.
I am absolutely HOOKED on this! The song stays in my head for hours after watching it, but I don't mind 'cause I LOVE the song! Thanks for putting it on here!
I was on LSD this past summer and it appeared that traffic does move this fast in real time . I was doing 15 over the limit and I was still getting past up as if I was doing 5 -10 below the posted speed limit ( 45 mph summer 35 mph winter or 0 mph last week lol)
Nothing like going home on Lake Shore Drive at 4am after being out on Friday night till Saturday morning just before the sun comes up! I am' glad the video didn't show everything because people who haven't been here before can experience it for themselves! Sears Tower, Buckingham Fountain, Soldier Field, Water tower Place, Lincoln Park Zoo, The Shed Aquarium, The Field Museum & The Museum of Science & Industry, Navy Peer with it's Ferris Wheel,
I'd give you a higher rating if you'd shown more of "The Lake" than 3 seconds and a speck of blue/green when you were going north of the river. Get an SUV!Did you have a short camera-person or were they more interested in filming the back of cars and license plates than the lake or the river.. I mean, I'm not being a bitch, but the road is called "Lake" shore drive, and the song....is also. Maybe redo it or splice in some LAke and River shots into it and get away from all the damn cars in it!
@alfatourist not trying to be mean,,, not sure about your comment,,, but LAke shore Drive goes north and south along the lake and through town.... or maybe you were just trying to rhyme with East.WEst, Best...????
@geckoisgiko L.A. is just like the 1960s song by Dionne Warwick.... she sang: "LA is a great big freeway, put a hundred down and buy a car" LA is just a giant suburb, until 1983 Chicago had the 2nd largest population, and then the LA city and county council to add all the suburbs and towns, even the San Fernando Valley "The Valley" into its city area and the population from the other towns/suburbs made the population jump almost a million, so then it overtook Chicago as the # 2 most populated
@zlaxfishnetwork you did a GREAT job on this, honestly, the color is great....I'd just like to see more lake and river maybe in your next updated video when you get the new skyscrapers that hopefully will be finished, like the Chicago Spire in a few years!!! thanks!
@BRIGHTBRIGHTLIGHT I agree, video showed too much of the backs of cars and license, not any lake at all and only 2 seconds of the river. and it went back and forth across downtown and the north side...they should have filmed it from the passenger side in the far right lane from Hollywood all the way past downtown, that way there would have been more scenes that weren't blocked by other cars and I think they were paranoid about pointing the camera at other cars to get the view, which I understand
The guys actually had three albums as Aliotta, Haynes, and Jeremiah. The 1st was Songs the 2nd was Lake Shore Drive, and the 3rd was Slippin Away. John now lives in Southern IL. and performs as the Bullfrog band (with myself on sax) and occasionally with Southern Thunder. Lake Shore Drive was rereleased in the nineties on cd, I believe it is still available. Check SkyReport for places we play.
Pleased to talk to you. I am a big fan. I loved the self-titled debut album. I heard it on vinyl but it belongs to a friend. Any chance we will see it made available on CD? I also heard from John's neice (I guess that is your daughter). She said there was a follow-up album. I have never heard that on vinyl or otherwise. Please make that available on CD also. I love John's piano parts. Thank you for posting. Love to Chicago from your neighbor to the southwest, Jim in St. Louis.
I had a grade school teacher who use to play this and a lot of 60's rock/folk music while we were working on assignments. This was one of those songs, and I love it now like I loved it then.
It's GREAT BEING FROM CHICAGO...this song is about HOME!!!!!
"...back at that same ol' place...SWEET HOME CHICAGO!!!!!"
I have always enjoyed Lake Shore Drive. LSD is considered a boulevard, and silly Illinois classifies a pickup truck as a TRUCK which are not allowed. However, by adding a cap to the back of the pickup it becomes an RV, and is allowed. Go figure.
It is a group of three guys called Aliotta, Haynes, Jeremiah. They only had one album. It was never released on CD and is VERY rare. The whole album is good and worth a listen. A friend of mine has it and will not sell it at any price.
Actually, they have at least two albums: Lake Shore Drive(LSD) and Slippin' Away. Both are great. Where this song gives you an aural picture of what you see on this clip, a song on the other album (Keeper of the Tolls) does the same for I 294.
The Cubs are destined to win the World Series this year. I would like to congratulate the citizens of northern Chicago for waiting this long. This is your your year, and our buddy, Jimmy Edmonds, is gonna help you. Jim Edmonds was once a Cardinal. We gave him up and we wish we hadn't. I want to send my condolences to the family of Harry Caray, who lost their son Skip recently. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. We in St. Louis care about the people in the Windy City. We honor you now.
On one of the other threads I talked to the neic of John Jeremiah, one of the members of this group. Good luck, Cubs in the post season. We love the Cubs and White Sox here in St. Louis.
I like this song. I live in St.Louis but I love visiting Chicago! I wanat the Cubs to win the world Series. Also. Sts.Constantine and helen (on Stoney Island Ave) in Chicago and Haigha Sophia (aka St.Sophia or Holy Wisdom) in Constantinople (aka Istanbul) will be Chrstian Again Soon! Reopen Halki!

I left Chicago LONG ago, and left happily... but this song, and Maxwell Street polish sausages, are the ONLY things that make me homesick!
It reminds me of the sweet days when I hung out on Lincoln Avenue in the folk music clubs, and at John Barleycorn Memorial Pub.
By the way... the second half of the film is sort of a lie... it's riding NORTH on Lake Shore Drive!
