This was done so that the fact that Alec who probably already was a double agent by that point wouldn't be exposed to MI6. But this is one of those things that makes the movies fun. Not everything has to be explained or even should be explained to viewers.

@KaitainCPS I feel as though Tomorrow Never Dies had incredible potential due to its highly relevant villain, but they blew it by revealing the mystery far too early in the film. On the other hand, I feel as though the World Is Not Enough was sunk by one egregiously poor bit of casting. Die Another Day was simply excruciating on every level. I also feel as though killing off 006 was an incredible mistake because he could've been an amazing recurring villain for Brosnan's 007.

This was Brosnan's best 007 film...hands down. Excellent main score. Excellent background music. Excellent pacing. Excellent villain(Sean Bean). And a totally believable Bond girl who didn't seem like a genetically-bred supermodel. =0)

I agree 110%. It's a shame because the bad films that followed gave Brosnan a reputation as a bad Bond in many circles. However I think this was one of best Bond films period and he was great in the role. Too bad the rest sucked.
