@therealsoumen Pyrolisis has been around for donkeys years, In countries where they have no oil they use it to run cars on charcoal. It just uses more energy than you extract so is wasteful in the long term except in highly specific circumstances like the ones in the video.
Solar power this machine and recycle plastic until it's all gone. I live near the beach and there's always plastic washing up ashore or left over on the beach. I'm sold. Where can I purchase one of these in the USA?
1kg of plastic burns to produce a little over 3kg of CO2.
1kg of oil burns to produce a little over 3kg of CO2.
Electricity, used to power the machine, will have been produced in a nuclear or fossil fuel power plant, it may be from a renewable source but regardless of how it's generated, this is energy you then waste converting a fuel from one medium into a slightly less calorific medium.
But it turns plastic to oil and people are fucking stupid so it'll probably catch on.
@EurypharPelecanoides So can you explain something? How does something that weighs 1kg turn into 3kg after being burned? There is a serious flaw there. Or am I missing something?
So let us say that every american family were to have one of these machines to produce their own oil, that means big oil companies are dead right? How much electricity does this machine use?
new ways to create pollution when we can already use 100% biodiesel made from animal fats and vegetable oils like corn, hemp, soybeans, even used vegetable oil works and no petroleum (or crude oil) is required to run vehicles, it's already being used in Europe. It can also be used to create electricity though I haven't checked much into that.
The Old God Bless the Inventor! :-) This invention with Chris Robinson developed extra GEET technology, will create an easy transition from the gasoline technology to the water energy technology.
@witness402 Yes :). There are also guys who can run their cars on air. The thing we should be more concerned is not the usage of fuel but the recycling of heavy dump of plastic waste that is dumped all over the world ( specially in marine part and underdeveloped countries )
@lianlibrans well there's plenty ways to recycle and plenty more willing to help it's just that they don't want to do to money issues, kinda like a company that has toxic waste as a bi product and instead of taking it to a place that can dispose of it the "rite way" witch is expensive thy trow it in local water ways ect. @paulo906 1 kW/h - or, actually 1 kW, since we're not talking about use over time here - of electricity is a heck of a lot more than that 1 litre of oil is going to provide. This is an energy sink.
The device uses plastic and electricity. Most if not all plastics have halogen constituents and presumably they would remain in the oil (rendering it unstable and hazardous), unless it's vented off in which case it's a pollutant. Electricity could be far better spent directly powering whatever you planned on putting the oil in, due to efficiency. Plastic would be better used as a fuel itself given the probable emmisions needed to power the machine.
@aikifab If you use a parabolic mirror, or a fresnel lens that generates more than 1500ºC collecting the energy from the sun... I guess the electrical consumption from the "GRID" would be... close to 0.
@aikifab@aikifab to heat that thing up surely cost electricity, but stop assuming that a green technology device can remedy every single environmental problems we have. It would be awesome if someone can create a machine that can change plastic into oil in the same time change C02 to 02 and carbon pellets, and generate electricity as it runs. It seems that we have to make do with the current technologies that we have. At least he is doing something about the plastics which are non-degradable.
@aikifab Im sure, it takes less energy than the crude oil.I think about the mining, shiping, destilating, and the natural disasters what couse the oil companies.
Pyrolisis is great isn't it? How ever unless you have a plentiful supply of energy its all just an exercise in futility, So this is either a stop gap measure till we no longer need oil, or come the end of the world our only way of producing liquid fuels. Interesting none the less.
@zogworth We use oil for other things than just to burn as fuel. It's a feedstock that can be turned back into other things. So, this guy's invention just completes the recycling process. All recycling processes require energy, which we HAVE to get from the sun, anyway. So solar and wind power are still the ultimate energy source.
ok so what is the energy consumtion of the machine? can it work with solar panels? how many watts does it consume to generate a liter of oil? is it cost efficient? if yes then my good friend I applaud your invention and most likely you deserve a nobel price :D
So long as "free energy" is used to power the machine, then I think this is fantastic. If electricity powered from coal fired power plants is used to power the machine, then the net carbon footprint is still greater than not using it. However, if it is used to solely for recycling plastic and to provide oil in countries where the price of energy is high (e.g. Philippines) then it is brilliant!
@thorbolt2020 Wind power & solar power and other renewable sources of energy can be used. In fact I think 30% of the every governments budget should go to renewable sources of energy. What I want to know is what happens to the rest of the by product from the oil. Or is there absolutly no waste left behind at all? If thats the case, I'm wanna buy 2 of those from him, and sell oil for 1$ a liter instead of the normal price of $1.30
@metalgearsolidrulez Here's a link to OurWorld 2.0 which briefly explains what sort of residue is left over. Apparently there is nothing toxic. Don't quote me on this, but I believe the process used here is catalytic pyrolysis if you're interested in some more reading.
Like someone mentioned earlier, how much energy is used in heating the plastic warm enough to turn it to gas? What happens to the water after it's been contaminiated? I'm not saying this isn't a brilliant process, but I don't think it's a 100% gain.
@philip142au thats not possible since there will always be lesser energy produced due to some loss of energy in the form of heat emission. "Nothing can be created nor destroyed, but can be transferred into another form". Laws of physics won't allow it
@CoreDumped2082 Well there is energy in the plastic which comes into the system, you would burn some of that energy as oil and maybe you would have some small amount of extra oil left over
@philip142au I know what you're thinking, and its crazy. Unfortunately, the laws of physics won't allow that either. Because when oil burns, it would need oxygen; and the byproduct is not something that can be used to make plastic which can then be liquefied and turned back into oil. Nice try though. ^ ^
Needs to produce more energy than what it takes to heat the water, solar powered? but solar takes a lot of energy to produce, more than it returns.
ya, the oil industry probably is blocking this technology from being implemented, greedy fucking bastards.
@guinsmike it can't hurt to take a step in the right direction, even if it doesn't return as much energy as coal, but remember, it's easy to just burn something from the ground, its harder to go in the oposite direction.
EXCELLENT! Even though I don't speak Japanese, I could see and hear the passion behind this technology. Let us hope this becomes viable in the Oil Market!
@tkcwu I didn't hate. I'd love to see a practical way to convert plastic back to oil. I do work at a chemical plant and I know a couple of things about distillations, heat and waste by product.. What I saw in the video, the conversion back to oil requires quite a bit of heat. That takes energy. I'm not hating. Just practical questions. Efforts to recycle plastic are probably more efficient than recovering oil from the plastic. I hate it if you think I'm a hater.
it may not be a feasible way to produce oil but it wil indeed reduce the impact of the bottles that are congesting our landfills. the problem with other oil alternatives is that realistically there is no shortage of oil. Elites want to you think there is to justtify a false supply and demad hike in prices AND...oil is cheap and SUPER profitable to the elites.
The temperatures on that machine are pretty high to do the conversion. The question you have to ask is, how much energy does it take to convert the plastic back into oil and then into usable fuel? I would guess it takes more energy to convert the plastic than the energy source it produces.
I'm not a scientist or an engineer, but I can see this invention probably isn't very practical to use or there would be these machines everywhere and a big demand for your used plastic.
people just accept it for what it is - which is an amazing step forward - its expensive, of course cause at the moment there is no demand for it and they are still developing it - its up to us to create that demand by telling people about it!
So the plastic melts and becomes liquid and releases a gas that is turned into oil.
So... What happens to the "plastic" that remains inside the machine? We can not recicle it anymore because it lost all the elasticity that was given by having oil... So... what do we do with that? The answer is... nothing. It becomes a waste that is buried in landfields because it has the same problem of "melting" tires to get oil. It becomes waste. And for a litre of oil we end up with 400g of waste... :(
Plastic simply isnt a matter of taking oil and squeezing it into a mould. After the appropriate chemicals are taken out of crude There are many other substances and reactions that have to take place before it reaches the stage it could be used as a plastic. Not only is he using many different plastics with different properties and reactions to tempreture he is claiming to pull 1 litre of oil from 1kg of plastic. I'd like to believe it, but its been a year since this video was posted and nothing.
Absolutely fantastic! I really applaud you. Its rare for me to actually write on youtube to comment and I even forgot the password so reset it again just to write on here. I feel with your invention - this could be a HUGE change worldwide. I will be trying to submit this video to the Australian government to see if they can do something to implement your machine. I have shared this on facebook and will show kids this video as will be teaching how plastic is made. Thanks so much :-))
I'm betting it takes more energy to convert it back into oil than what the oil gives back after it's used as gasoline/kerosene. This is most likely another thing that seems too good to be true, because it isn't.
Always the negative thinker eh, roomy? What if the plastic just sits in garbage dumps, lakes, forests or wherever pple toss it carelessly, for 1000 years? Is that better? At least this way u recycle it AND get some energy back from it. Two birds with one stone. I think it's a whole lot better than just letting it pile up in garbage dumps, don't u think?
i believe that people not knowing this yet is because goverments dont want to buy this shit... it will unstable the economic market .... people would stop buy and just convert their own oil...

What I want to know is what happens to the rest of the by product from the oil. Or is there absolutly no waste left behind at all? If thats the case, I'm wanna buy 2 of those from him, and sell oil for 1$ a liter instead of the normal price of $1.30
metalgearsolidrulez 5 months ago
@metalgearsolidrulez Here's a link to OurWorld 2.0 which briefly explains what sort of residue is left over. Apparently there is nothing toxic. Don't quote me on this, but I believe the process used here is catalytic pyrolysis if you're interested in some more reading.
thorbolt2020 5 months ago
Like someone mentioned earlier, how much energy is used in heating the plastic warm enough to turn it to gas? What happens to the water after it's been contaminiated? I'm not saying this isn't a brilliant process, but I don't think it's a 100% gain.

It scares me how no one in the entire world has ever done this before. It shows you where corporate interests really lie.

I'll bet the oil is very lowgrade, and wouldn't be efficient car fuel. So don't think this man have solved our energy-crisis.
It's surely useful for heating or lamps though!

Good thing that plastic isn't made from oil. OH WAIT IT IS.
Midkupz 5 months ago
this man is a genius. I hope this machine could be made available to the public soon...
SlipperyWhenRacist 5 months ago
well its gonna take more energy to convert plastic to oil than the oil u get from the process.
CoreDumped2082 5 months ago
@CoreDumped2082 Is that true? I am curious, what if he used the oil produced to power the device in a loop.
philip142au 5 months ago
@philip142au thats not possible since there will always be lesser energy produced due to some loss of energy in the form of heat emission. "Nothing can be created nor destroyed, but can be transferred into another form". Laws of physics won't allow it
CoreDumped2082 5 months ago
@CoreDumped2082 Well there is energy in the plastic which comes into the system, you would burn some of that energy as oil and maybe you would have some small amount of extra oil left over
philip142au 5 months ago

That is bloody awe some even if it known. I think all the hater should love shit cos plastics doesn't even decompose.
Where can I buy one? :-)

this is amazing... where is this man and his awesome machine? why has not every recyling centre have one of these??

EXCELLENT! Even though I don't speak Japanese, I could see and hear the passion behind this technology. Let us hope this becomes viable in the Oil Market!

This is old stuff, it's always been known... just unimplemented.

I hate it if you think I'm a hater.

the ARABS are going to KILL YOU. please send the developing rights to the UN, UNICEF, WWF, greenpeace or whole ever the fuck that cares.
tkcwu 7 months ago
it may not be a feasible way to produce oil but it wil indeed reduce the impact of the bottles that are congesting our landfills. the problem with other oil alternatives is that realistically there is no shortage of oil. Elites want to you think there is to justtify a false supply and demad hike in prices AND...oil is cheap and SUPER profitable to the elites.
808ionman 7 months ago
The temperatures on that machine are pretty high to do the conversion. The question you have to ask is, how much energy does it take to convert the plastic back into oil and then into usable fuel? I would guess it takes more energy to convert the plastic than the energy source it produces.
I'm not a scientist or an engineer, but I can see this invention probably isn't very practical to use or there would be these machines everywhere and a big demand for your used plastic.

@mdlarson7 you are a HATER. think of ways to make it work and feasible, but hate.

people just accept it for what it is - which is an amazing step forward - its expensive, of course cause at the moment there is no demand for it and they are still developing it - its up to us to create that demand by telling people about it!

Currently the smallest version, shown in the videobrief, costs ¥950,000 (US $9,500).
Most people worldwide CAN NOT afford this at so ridiculous price!

@ozzirt part of the good here is the removal of plastics from the waste cycle

@ormswyn Very true,... but unfortunately it will never take off until the conversion is cheaper than other methods of disposal.

TheRoomy 8 months ago
@TheRoomy
Think greener, live better.
