I love Amy Lee's version (heck, I love the entire Muppets Green Album), but there's nothing like the original. And Amy Lee isn't quite as huggable as Robin.
he is the cutest thing eva i would love to have a pet robin. i downloaded the muppets app the other day and had to uninstall it because it was the people singing not the muppets! :-( I LOVE MUPPETS!!!!!!! :-)
I remembered this song because my son (14 yrs) was sitting on the stairs (with his iPod). I mentioned the song to him and almost recalled the first verse of the lyrics. Had to find the video :)
Ahhh, this is better!!! I accidentally stumbled on the Amy Lee version and was a bit frightened. As much as I love Amy Lee and Evanescence, she is one of the many people who should leave all Muppety Goodness alone - Robin does an incredible job of singing this song an nobody else should even try to do it better.
P.S. I stumbled on the Amy Lee version while trying to find Robin's version on MP3 (Amazon) ... can anyone help me out?
@MattyIce61 seriously? You dont have to like or listen to the song, but please keep your comments to yourself, no one cares to read your malicious words of iggnorance. People please stop the use of the "R" word. Think long and hard about your use of hateful words, before you use or type them. You have no clue who your offending purple, green polka dot, rainbow colored and all stripes if you like, we all blleed the same color. Lets stop the hate!
as someone who suffers from being bi-polar, the old term being manic depressive, this poem by aa milne is perfectly suited as a way of expressing how we just wish for that middle stair
The lyrics are moving, the concept is beautiful, the song is wonderful. The frog is adorable! I was born after Muppets ran on tv, but my parents made sure I watched this quality program. Great stuff.
Between this and Rainbow Connection I dunno which is worse (in terms of how depressing they are!) I mean they're beautiful songs, excellent, but a bit too sad. Poor Kermit :/
@Revinita Amy Lee is an American singer. She is the lead singer of the rock band, Evanescence. She covered "Halfway Down the Stairs" in the recent cover album, Muppets: The Green Album.
I must say, shared second place of most beautiful Muppet song/performance with "Saying Goodbye" from "The Muppets Take Manhattan" and of course, second to Rainbow Connection.
In my humble opinion of course, all three of them always brings tears to the old eyes... Jim Henson; truly a man of magic. <3
i love this song . it reminds me of when my dads mum died . i was only one week old when she died . the one memory i hold is when i used to cuddle her and pay no atention to enyone else she used to cuddle me till i fell asleep i still listen to this song when ever i think of her . i wish she was still alive . love you nan best wishes and best kisses
This song has a very deep meaning, at least as I see it.. Its both optimistic and pessimistic. I kinda relate to this song.. Weird I never heard of it before!
For those interested in Amy Lee's version: it got leaked. Not by me just so you know. I just listened to it, it's quite good. It's on YouTube now, though I don't think Amy would be pleased that it got leaked.
This makes me cry. I also lose it when Kermit sings the Rainbow Connection. And I REALLY lose it when Rugby the Tiger sings the song to Mew the Mouse when he thinks he's frozen under the Christmas Tree in Jim Henson's 'The Christmas Toy'. It's amazing how Muppets can be so funny and so very emotional and touching at the same time. Henson was a genius.
@theatreodyssey we had the album also. we played that record till we wore it out. luckily my dad recorded it onto a tape first so we could keep listening to it. I love this song.
Tell me the truth , did this not bring a tear to your eye when it was first broadcasted? I then cried again when he played Tim in the Muppet christmas carol. I know i am sad but if people were half as nice as Robin was then the world be a beautiful place. Thank you for posting.
I came home from work tonight in a fed up mood after working most of the day. I saw my framed picture of Robin advertising half way down the stairs by AA Milne and it cheered me up right away.
Remember watching this its first time on TV back in the 70's(?). My dad, sister and I laughed til we couldn't get our breath. My mom, sweetest lady in the world, got weepy and said "Maybe he needs help". It's 2010 and this vid still delivers. Very cute little frog, very sweet little song. It never gets old. Love ya Robin.
Love this song. Lost my mum about a year ago n the one memory I hold dear was of when we were both sat on the stairs and she sang this to me to cheer me up. Hadn't heard it since I was little and couldn't remember the words, but yet, mum could :) happy times xxx R.I.P mum 29.10.2009 xxx
@FloProproductions Sorry, I think you'd have to bring Jim Henson back to life and get back the rights that Disney owns to make decent a decent Muppet Show. (Although, "The Muppet's A Christmas Carol," made shortly after Jim's death, directed by son Brian- I thought they did a pretty good job considering the lack of original Muppet cast.)
@Fight4Faulkner Yeah, but it would be nice for people to the see the muppets once more! There is a new film coming out.... I think next year, it’s called “The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made” But it sounds like it’s going to be the last of the Muppets. =(
@Fight4Faulkner Muppet Christmas Carol had all the original cast members besides Jim himself, and possibly Richard Hunt who died soon afterwards. Other than that no one had left yet. But now with Jerry Nelson retiring there are only 3 of the originals left. The muppets are, sadly, pretty much gone, but better for them to disappear than to be ruined by dragging it out too far. We all miss you Jim...
