This is one of those songs that bands write and don't think anything about it until they play it live and it leaves everybody in one of those "Damn... that was my life..." moods. This is one of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard.
To be honest I wonder how Josh can go home from TCV to QOTSA and have Joey Castillo drumming for him after having Thor's Thunderbolt Grohl behind him... Castillo is good, don't get me wrong, but he's no Grohl!
This song is arguably Dave Grohl's greatest as a drummer - not even on QOTSA's Songs for the Deaf album did his kit sound so busy so much of the time. Dave clearly isn't ready to sit back and soak up the fame and money, so he keeps challenging himself. Definitely bodes well for the Probot II album he's threatening to make with Chuck Billy and others... oh, and JPJ is a living legend!
On a Totally random point, I Think this song would have made a great bond Theme, try playing this along to the opennig of qauntum of solace starting after the jam! Mind blowing
@videospaz10 I agree with you 100%, That version of the song was scary. I have been looking for it but can not find it anywhere. God i wish i ripped it from here.
@QMDExperiece qotsa is tcv. tcv is qotsa. yes qotsa released that album.. which one was it? era vulturaris or something awful like that. if you ask me, the follow up album to lullabies to paralyze is the selftitled tcv :)
@robbantheshit saying TCV is the same thing as QOTSA implies John Paul Jones doesn't add anything to the sound of TCV that QOTSA doesn't already have. I don't think anyone can honestly believe that JPJ doesn't contribute to TCV's sound after watching this video... that's just absurd.
You know what might actually be really interesting? Them Crooked Vultures with Grohl doing guitar/vocals and Homme doing drums. This current setup is definitely the best for their respective talents, but it would be really interesting to see what these three masters could come up with in that setup.
@BlueOnionGroup When spinning in the daffodils stared they wrote "spinning in the daffodils". That was later in the video, so if you only listened to the "video" you wouldn't notice.
That's the first time I've EVER seen J. Ho use a an obvious vocal processor on stage. I think it's cheesy sounding myself. I'd rather hear Alain or Dave do the backup. I'm a huge fan, but that's just wrong!
The JPJ solo is definately inspired by victorian harpsichord era.

Those last chords and then that last, completely hanging note, no cadance, the look when he stands up... unbelievable.

Maybe this is why Dave is the nicest man in rock cos he gets all his anger out on stage.
He gives it everything whether he is playing drums, guitar or singing he leaves it all on stage and by the end looks like he has nothing more to give.
