You can hear this was an in house recording from the audience but the power of his voice when he opens up was amazing! Well sung. Every note he sang was heard both piano and forte all over the house whenever I heard him, yes a very powerful rich voice.
@SHICOFF1 The IL TROVATORE to which you are alluding is actually from the previous Met season (18 February 1967, to be exact, from the 1966-67 season). This performance is from the fall of the 1967-68 season. What a pity that he didn't broadcast Des Grieux come 23 March 1968; that afternoon, John Alexander sang the role, with Tebaldi again as Manon Lescaut.
@jmccracken1963 thanks for info, at least we have his 1959 performance with Tebaldi in decent if not great sound. That was a terrific performance.
