Sony Vegas SHOULD be the best but in my opinion it's actually not that great and it takes 2 hours to save 6 mins of video...

I see what you mean, I just like it because you can create professional looking stuff easily, there are plenty of better programs, but vegas is nice and simple, i like to pair it with other programs for specific effects and purposes, then just leave it overnight to render xD

hehe, it's quite difficult. I used a technique called chroma key, which is where the background is solid blue/green, then it is removed in editing to have just the object. The crates were from a game called Garry's Mod which is a big sandbox thing where i built a green screen studio and played around with props. To put myself in other areas i used a program called texmod to change the textures of the walls in GW to make it green, and used the same technique. Running out of characters!

with green you can use the green screen technique, which basically removes the green colour, making the background transparent and leaving just the character, black doesn't work, only green and blue.
