  • Nice! Brook trout are the best! Nice brooks in your area too!

  • Great pictures, I caught one yesterday in Pennsylvania, it looked perfect, it fell right off the hook after I reeled it in, I was able to hold it in my hand and observe it for a few seconds before it fell back into the creek and swam away.

  • these are my favorite fish by far. these little guys have a fight like no other. i've had 4" brookies fight harder than a 12" stocked 'bow. nice video. thanks!

  • remember everyone, practice catch and kill, conservation first.

  • some of them fish were pretty small but omg they were so beautiful!

  • Great video! I'm from Kentucky and love to fish the Elk, are there any brookie streams around that area?

  • good music, nice pics. and very beautiful fishs

    good job

  • i catch these little fellas in a river in ireland, the river is infact on an island off the west coast of mayo. The little stream comes down from a hill, i use a small hook and a worm. this is no lie, ive been known to put my line in the water and within a realistic 3 seconds ive had bites and caught a brook trout or a small brown trout. thats if they didnt riggle off the hook, cus sometimes i used barbless hooks. they are fun to fish and tastey to eat. im 24 now, but i took my cousin who is 10.

  • arent they actually a member of the salmon family and not a trout???

  • theyre in the char family maybe im not sure

  • Yes, brook trout are a char.

  • Trout are also in the Salmon family.

  • hey what flies were you using? i want to get into fly fishing for brookies, they are truely the most beautiful fish.. i've caught a few near coudersport, pa but that's all the experience i have

  • Small brookies aren't typically too picky. I've only found them to key in on a specific hatch a few times. Typically, any medium sized (#12-18) dry fly will work fine (i.e., Elk Hair Caddis, Parachute Adams, Stimulator) in the summer. In the winter I recommend small #10 olive woolly buggers. The key is drag free and stealthy presentation, not the fly pattern.

  • Nice falls, is this in a remote area? I never keep anything under 7-8inch but I have to admit the little ones are the best for cooking!!!

  • These pics were just from a batch of pics I had of brookies I'd caught and friends had caught from many different streams in West Virginia. Most of them are pretty remote streams, but there are places you can catch brookies right by the main road too.

  • amazing ... im wordless,

  • Those are some great photos. I'd like to try fishing in West Va. sometime. NY state here. Your brookies are definately a lot different looking than ours. Stop by and watch a fishing slideshow, or a fishing video that I've made. It's cool to see how different looking our brook trout are.

  • Yeah, the geology, elevation and makeup of our streams are not only different, but each region's fish has some pretty unique phenotypes (expressed traits) too. The WV brookies tend to look more like southern Appalachian brook trout than northern brook trout.

  • There's nothing like small stream fishing and not many fish prettier than the brook!

  • I cant get over your video! Ive watched it like 50 times and im still not tired of it. Excellent video!

  • Thanks. This is one of the first videos I ever made. I'm surprised that it gets so many more comments than others I've done.

  • My friend, everything about that video was perfect!!! Amazing water, Amazing fish, and Amazing music choice!!

  • 1:13 is an awesome pic

  • nice video!

  • this shit is so sick like how small the creeks are you wouldnt think a fish could be in there but there actully is and the fish are so beautiful

  • im here in VA and these ARE the most majestic and beautiful fish there is. i love to trout fish and Im also working on a conservation effort down here in VA and its great. i love these animals.

  • There is a small brook here and these small trouts are the most beautiful fish in the world. I am fishing there for hours and hours.

  • TROUT 4ever!

  • It's nice to sit and think and fish

And fish and think and sit,

And sit and fish and think and wish

The fish would bite a bit.

  • Thers a river behind my house and once summa started ive been goin fishing for these atleaste 2 times a week.

  • wvangler i saw your comment saying people with the "big fish" attitude are the less intelegent anglers. that isnt completely the truth. i enjoy fishing ive been doing it my whole life and i get satisfaction from catching all sizes of fish. i agree fishing is about more than catching the big fish it is about the enviroment that your in but you have to agree catching a big fish does make everything even more enjoyable.

  • after that video i had to go fishing

  • Im a 15 year old kid, from PA.. Alot of the streams in upstate PA hold beautiful brookies like these. unfortunately the closest native streams to me have been stocked with browns which have now taken over. I cant wait for my next trip to catch some of these amazing fish... and i think wvangler is right, some of these fish are adults.

  • I here ya. I'm also 15 and from PA. Only problem is, I leave near philly. There arent native brookies within many miles from my house. Its all stockers

  • Get involved with Trout Unlimited chapter in your area. You never know what little nuggets you might discover.

  • The max. size a native brook trout gets in WV is about 12" tops. Those are rare. Occasionally one breaks the 13" mark, but only in about 2 or 3 of the 900+ brookie streams in WV. The habitat is not conducive to large fish. I've seen plenty of large brookies, but they were out of Labrador, not WV. I catch a lot of large browns and rainbows, but they are not as ecological or historically important.

  • Nor are they as pretty as brook trout

  • Don't worry about these nay-sayers, wvangler. You are obviously much more educated and much more mature. This is an amazing video.

  • THis is a wonderful video. obviously from canada you have much bigger native brookies. these are large natives for the northeastern u.s. get a life you bigfoot loser.

  • Also, fishing mortality is not additive mortality. See the GSMNP reports on mortality due to fishing pressure. The Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture did not list fishing pressure in the top 10 threats to brook trout. Oh, and it is WVAngler. WV became a seperate state in 1863.

  • Those fish are adult fish. I have a B.S. in Biology and have extensively studied brook trout population ecology. I know far more about brook trout population dynamics than you do. Trout do not swallow dry flies. I am in a leadership role for WV Trout Unlimited and Back The Brookie. I put in countless hours as a an advocate for brook trout. I may have some personal inadequacy, but it is not fishing related or related to my work on behalf of the future of the resource.

  • Folks; fishing for native brook trout is more than about catching a big fish. The clean water and environment they represent, the history behind the fish and the spiritual renewal you gain from being in these environments is the draw. Not everyone is out to catch a big fish. I contend that the "big fish" attitude is for the less intelligent fishermen who do not have the capability for abstract thought.

  • man those are some of the tiniest brookies ever...I leave those little guys alone, mortality rate is too high when they're that small, let 'em get a couple of pounds on first

  • These fish are sequestered to small headwater tributaries in WV due to poor land practice, mining, development, etc. They don't normally grow to larger than 12" here. Promotion of responsible fishing for these gems is the best way to increase awareness for their plight, which is grave. Habitat loss is a far greater problem than fishing mortality. See the EBTJV at brookie<dot>org for more info.

  • wow, those are gorgeous.

  • the eastern native americans would not eat a brook trout they considered them sacred. they were thought to be touched by the gods, which created their beautiful colors

  • very nice fish

  • joshuasmoshua you're an idiot, it's people like you who advocate illegally stocking small mouth bass, that are destroying our trout fisheries.

  • yes he is

  • Thanks for posting this! By far the prettiest trout in my book... 5 years ago I caught one 21 inches in south eastern oregon... biggest I've ever caught...

  • awesome! ...fishing rulezz ...I like brook trout

  • nice! where in WV?

  • Pretty pretty fish, i cought a 16 incher out of a stream small enough to step across last summer. I love brookie fishing!!!

  • reminds me of the high lakes in the California Sierras. You find sexually mature brookies that are only 4 inches sometimes. Very limited food, and short season for growth due to the snow.

    Nice video!

  • Yea same in the san gabriel river i went today it was GREAT!

  • yea i love fish

  • this is so awsome, great job gys
