  • I disagree with picketing anyone's funeral. Anyone, even Saddam Hussein, etc. Those deaths are solemn victories.

  • @jlhanks81, interesting perspective. I suppose one could say any death is a tragedy, so even if a person like Sadaam dies, then it is still a tragedy because it was a wasted life.

  • @Frelsun1234 That's exactly what I mean :)

  • Luke 6,39 Here are some of the story-illustrations Jesus used in his sermons, What good is it for one blind man to lead another ? He will fall into a ditch and pull the other down with him, How can a student know more than his teacher ? But if he works hard, he may learn as much. And why quibble about the speck in someone els's eye-his little fault-when a board is in your own ? How can you think of saying to him , Brother let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye? HYPOCRITE!

  • I dont think its decent but theyre within their rights. If they were assaulted then I'm sure the judge and jury would be sympathetic the picketers are trying to start controversy make disruption and overall being nuisances. You have the RIGHT to say what you like but be prepared to face adversity for unpopular ideas.

  • Oh GOD Shirley Phelps makes me SICK !!! I can't listen to much of this garbage!

  • Point 1: I think that picketing anyone's funeral, whether s/he was good or evil, or somewhere in between, is a douchebag move on anyone's part (and no, I don't think people should picket Fred's funeral when he dies). You can be happy, if they truly did evil, but picketing their funeral is just a low blow.

  • you to waaaay to long to make any point, but even then, your points are not very good. Spend time doing other things. BTW, he didn't assualt the WBC member

  • At the end of the day your argument or questions and/or opinions suffer from a classic flaw. They are YOUR opinions. Others may share them but that doesn't make them anymore right or wrong than other peoples opinions.

Right or wrong, good or bad and many other comparisons are a matter best suited for each individual. They may feel right while you feel they are wrong. Just as some people condone things others do not.

Objective reality is for the narrow minded. Live life for you forget the rest

  • You don't even know what a paradox is, fuckwit. xD

    Troll elsewhere.

  • Bah. The law says WBC is within their legal rights to freedom of expression. The problem with WBC is they tout their constitutional right, all the while protesting and picketing everyone else's right to express themselves, whether it be in the form of another religion, gay, agnosticism, etc.

    It's a paradox.

  • Nice subject. The problem people have is not the fact that they're picketing a funeral... it's the fact that they don't like the particular words the Westboro's use. There are plenty of people who hold signs at funerals such as "Soldier in Heaven", and other similar things. Now, of course people aren't going to say that THOSE signs are disrupting anyone's funeral.

What it boils down to is this: people don't like their words. It's as simple as that, even though it might seem more complicated.

  • So if your mom died....you'd be as equally offended by someone Holding up a sign that said Shes in Heaven or she that she was A Good person.....then someone holding up a sigh stating she's a Dyke or that shes burning in hell?

  • Why don't you try reading it again. That's not even kinda what I said. My whole point was that some words ARE offensive and other words are NOT offensive.

NEVERTHELESS, BOTH parties are holding signs at funerals.

So, the problem people have with the Westboro's are the WORDS they use. Get it?

  • Of course people won't say people who bring signs to a soldier's funeral that says Soldier In Heaven are disrupting anyone's funeral David. That's because those signs are saluting a soldier. What Westboro does is despicable. They protest a soldier's funeral with their disgusting signs causing more pain & suffering to the soldier's family when they should be left alone to grieve & westboro enjoys what they do.

  • I understand, and that's my point. Where do we draw the line of freedom of speech? Freedom of religion? That's the issue I'm getting at, because everything the Westboro's do is legal. Should we put limits on the rights because of a small group of people? What do you think? Remember, laws affect everyone.

The analogy I think of is this: Is America going to let a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch?

    What are your thoughts?

  • There is a line .......Our constitution describes our Rights as being "RELATIVE" not "ABSOLUTE"

we are free to do as we please as long as we don't infringe other peoples rights or intentionally cause harm to other people

In this case the family's of the deceased ,right to privacy is violated by the WBC

  • WHAT "small group of people" are you referring to? You mean the grieving families? The majority of the country that are totally offended by these morons? David, they have the "right" to free speech but the law enforcement people that they go to in order to get their permits to be able to protest also have the right to place them anywhere they want, which is far far away from grieving families and friends.
