I understand ramadan is a ritual that is used to teach 'self-restraint' and I'm interested in this.

I understand that during ramadan at dawn no consumption of animals is allowed or even plants. But people can consume water and smoke? Then around 7:27 pm (today for instance) you prey. Then at 7:30 you pray on 'fresh lamb'? Then the cycle resumes again. In short, no eating beasts until night time and deprive yourself of the opportunities for diseases of affluence while fasting.

Please help me understand why those who practice the ramadan ritual continue to yo-yo back to carcinogenic indulgences of addictive fallback foods (meat/dairy/refined grains/candy, etc). If u fast then feed on lamb, you're just going back and forth from detoxing to retoxing and no long term benefit comes from it. This is the exact reason I question the meat consumption, breaking the fast. The stomach works harder to digest meat all year long. So why not practice more self-restraint and slack off the difficult to digest foods of indulgence like meat?
