Sorry but This pattern is called remember the kittens by Joan Kokaska. It is in the Great Big Crochet Afghan Book by Needle Craft. I believe you are in violation of copywritten laws by claiming this is your pattern.
@artet64 Thank you. Viewers told me a few years ago they wanted the finished piece at the beginning and at the end. For the older tutorials that do not show what it is at the beginning, most have a link to my crochet blog. There will be a picture there as well.
Hello I am wanting to make a 100% cotton full/queen size afghan using the Abstract Cat stitch but I am a newbie and I have no idea how to achieve that size. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.
I want to add my thank you for all your video work. You ARE a great teacher. I am a beginner and picked this right up. I am using four colors, three different shades of pink/red and it looks beautiful!. I chained 200 and am using a F/5 size hook to give me a large lap blanket. I am thrilled with how it is coming along. I am thinking of using a shell boarder done in black to make the colors pop. Thank you again!
Thank you so much for this! I am new to crocheting, and ive been really successful in this pattern already! You are a great teacher. At the moment Ive just tested this pattern with the length you used in the tutorial, but maybe when I am done I will make a blanket in this size. I guess Ill just turn this one in to a scarf.
Is there a tutorial about how to get rid of those pesky end bits of yarn after you change colours? Thanks!
@controlthishere I wish you much continued success with crochet. I did send you a tutorial for sewing in the tails. I appreciate your kinds words, thank you.
I thought this video was great!! I am making this blanket for my friend who is leaving and I showed some sneak peek pics and she loves it!! Super easy to follow thank you :)
@missy1432004 I recommend something simple since there is so much going on in other places. A single crochet edging or reverse single crochet edging will work great. Attach the yarn any place along the edge and work your stitches. When you get to the corners, you may need to work extra stitches so the corner lays flat.
@missy1432004 I recently did this pattern from a book. The pattern doesn't really call for a border if your edges are fairly even. It did offer to put 6in fringe on the beginning and ending edges.
Also to keep the continuity of the pattern, you will want to end your last color with a "Row 4" (change color, 1R drop/shell, then 1R shell only. Finish off--do not make 2nd shell only row)
I found myself lost at times, like you forgot to says when there wasn't a crochet. But overall, it was good, but I've watched many many of your videos and this is one of the least "educational".
Still, you're the greatest and best teacher there ir lol
I really appreciate watching the parts that are in slow-motion. And the color of the yarn helps too. Dark colored yarns make it difficult to see exactly what the needles are going. I thought you might want to know..
I've hit a bit of a snag.... HOW do I finish this? Is the last row supposed to look like the first where the chain stitching is? If so, how? I'm still pretty novice at this, and I'm having trouble reverse doing it on my own. Or shall I leave the top as a normal row is done, without the extra chains? Thanks!!
@baravail It is not necessary for the last row to look identical to the first row. You can work a final chain row if you want to or work a single crochet edging around the whole afghan.
I've been using your videos for about a month now, and finally have signed up for YouTube properly because of it. Thank you so much for your videos, they are so helpful in creating new works via crochet that I've completely given up on my pattern book. I've been working on an abstract kitty afghan for my baby-to-be's crib, and it looks fairly good, even though of course it isn't as good as what you do! -- Do you have border suggestions? Or should I leave it borderless?
@baravail Since there is a lot going on with the stitch, you may want to work a simple single crochet or reverse single crochet edging. I work the reverse single crochet on mine.
Excellent videos. I started crocheting when I was 10, but only knew how to do single crochet. Your videos have broadened my crocheting skills. Thank you :)
I have looked for this pattern everywhere. I made it years ago when I first started to crochet. I loved it but lost the pattern. I must say that you make it seem a lot easier then the book that I had. I would also like to say that I love your videos. They are so helpful and make the process of learning easier by the close ups and the slow motion provided. Thank You
this was a wonderful pattern thank you so much .........i made 2 blankets so far.....one is in the circus colors and other is more towards the colors you used.......absolutely beautiful!
this was a wonderful pattern thank you so much .........i made 2 blankets so far.....one is in the circus colors and other is more towards the colors you used.......absolutely beautiful!
I have started my afghan with 135 chain length plus extra 5, and when I got to the 9 or tenth row, something went terribly wrong!! It was all uneven on the ends...I am having 2 double stitches on ea. end, but, everything was coming out uneven....where am i going wrong?
You rock Teresa! My oldest daughter (she is almost 12) is already asking if I can show her how to do this. I told her, get on your own computer and watch her video. She is just learning to read patterns though.. so I am sure this will have to wait a bit.. LMAO
Teresa, how do you crochet the ends in after its all finished? I weaved my in, but it still looks unfinished somehow, is there a way to use the shell stitch on the sides to match the ending when done, hope this makes sense. I love mine, it looks like bunnys instead of cats just because it s for a baby and made in white, yellow and green.
Hi teresa I tried this project and was succcessful since u were a grt teacher. I wanted to know how to end the project ie, the last row wouldnt have a proper cat head so do I just SC or do DC in all the stitches?
Thankyou for returning my answer so quickly, yes it could be i am not crocheting tight enough, you really have to look at mine before you see the cat., if i do crochet looser do i drop down in needle size?
Hi Teresa, you are great, very good instructor, i have done this cat pattern and it looks so much bigger than yours, i do not know what i am doing wrong, must have watched your video a thousand times.
@xenadome You may not be doing anything wrong. The hook you are using could be larger. It is possible that you naturally crochet loose. That would be a couple of reasons why your work may look larger.
Do you know how to crochet on the wrong side of a chain? I have a few patterns that say to do that they just dont tell or show me how. or do you already have a tutorial for it?
Thank you so very much for all of your many crochet tutorials. You are an excellent teacher and the slow motion is really helpful. I am going to use the Abstract Cat stitch in a charity blanket that a group of my friends and I are making together. I look forward to exploring all of your crochet tutorials.
@leogurl816 i made a hat using this stitch!! just start with a chain big enough to fit around your head (wherever you want the bottom of the hat to be on your head) and you'll go in a loop instead of side to side...but it feels the same. just count it out right so you don't end up with weird stitches at the end of the loop. then when you get high enough, just keep decreasing stitches (it will be plain on top...but you don't have to have too much of that, just to close it)
It will still be here. I went to college in my late 30's as a non traditional student. I do remember not having time for anything between, school, work and raising my son.
This is really beautiful =) thank you so much for posting up your videos sharing and teaching us. i'm a beginner to crochet and tried those mini projects like stockings, heart and flowers. they are so lovely =D will try to do a scarf with this!! so looking forward to it!~
Thaaaank you once again~ Wishing you safe, healthy and happy always =)
Thank you so much for posting your videos and ideas and taking the time out of YOUR day to help us with crocheting. U truley are an angel. U have helped me with everything! U make complex patterns so easy. U talk when it is nessesary and not talk just to talk. Before i found you i had another teacher who would change the subject from crochet to their wedding day. And no its not neen if u r thinking that lol. and when u talk, u talk with us and not at us. And that means a lot.
You should be able to print the pattern. If you are having trouble fitting it all on the page, go to print preview and then reduce the scale to about 50-70%.
I love it! There really cute! I think i'll make one with black and white. Your videos are the best on youtube for crocheters. I bet you could crochet a house if you wanted to lol.
I adore your videos, and this pattern is too cute! Question though: Can this be done with only 2 colors? Also, with 100 chains, what does the dimension end up to be? Thank you for all your videos!!
It's sooooo much easier than it looks! I did this one a few weeks ago in baby yarn & it came out very nice. Though I do have a question with it as far as what do you recommend for a finishing edge on the bottom? My origionial chain got really streatched out and I wasn't sure what to do so I winged it with I think with a half double as a trim so it didn't look like a bunch of loops.
i did this stitch with an sc foundation and bright yellow and teal and i was so fast. looks great to...i found that tight stitches defined the "Cats" really well. my scarf was done i a few hrs! thanks.
I think I might try this with extra bulky yarn and see if it makes the cats less subtle, it sure is a clever design! I have not used drop stitch, wonder why I never thought of that, as adventurous as I get with my work! Excellent, thank you.
Thank you so very much for this video! I have hunted everywhere for this pattern for a long time, ever since I saw an afghan crocheted with it. I looked on youtube under "crochet kittens" and didn't find anything. Lo and behold, as I was surfing your excellent videos--here it is! I can't wait to finish the afghan I'm on so I can try this one. Thank you for sharing your time and expertise with us. Your videos are all excellent--great instructions, videography, and patterns. Blessings!
The multiple of 5 plus 11 , I understand but...on your written instructions you stated you made the baby afghan with 100 chain. I can't get that to equal any multiple of 5 plus 11. Am I somehow misunderstanding??
The multiple is 5+11. My crochet blog link is posted to the right of the video, under my channel image. There is additional written information related to the video. You will add 5 chains for each cat that you want to make. I made a baby afghan with a chain of 101.
Hi Teresa, I love this pattern and i have made a little bag to keep my camera in, i padded the bag inside. Now my grand daughter has seen it and she wants me to make her a scarf from this pattern. I seem to have lots of things on the go. Just wanted to ask, will this pattern be staying on here to view for quite a while yet? Thank you for all your great videos, you are the best on here.
Thank you, I appreciate your comment. The only reason I would remove a crochet video is if there would be a huge mistake. Once I upload them, they are here to stay.
You are welcome. You can add the paws later if you missed them. It will just mean sewing in some extra tails. I missed two paws on the edge and did not notice it until I was finished.
I was wondering when you get to the length you want, how do you end off? Just with the last row or is there another step? And is there to be a border on this?
Man, I love that you share all these great videos with all of us. I always look forward to getting them. You have a fabulous teaching technique as well.
hi I absolutely love your videos!! I was wondering if this could be altered to work as a boarder around a granny square?

Kakerville 2 years ago
Teresa,
Thank you so much for posting your videos and ideas and taking the time out of YOUR day to help us with crocheting.
Thanks!!!

All i can say is awesome. Is there a way i can get the pattern to print out? Great Job!!!!!
barbidoll61 2 years ago
You should be able to print the pattern. If you are having trouble fitting it all on the page, go to print preview and then reduce the scale to about 50-70%.

I love it! There really cute! I think i'll make one with black and white. Your videos are the best on youtube for crocheters. I bet you could crochet a house if you wanted to lol.

I adore your videos, and this pattern is too cute! Question though: Can this be done with only 2 colors? Also, with 100 chains, what does the dimension end up to be? Thank you for all your videos!!
wtbysinger 2 years ago
You can use two colors instead of 3.

Getting out yarn immediately.

3SnuggleBunnies 2 years ago
I would suggest a single crochet.

i did this stitch with an sc foundation and bright yellow and teal and i was so fast. looks great to...i found that tight stitches defined the "Cats" really well. my scarf was done i a few hrs! thanks.

Thank you so much your videos are so helpful!!! *****

Am I somehow misunderstanding??
svermilya 2 years ago
I am able to make it work with 100 or 101. The most important thing about the chain is not making it to tight.

YOU ARE A CROCHET GENIUS! I watch your videos all the time! They never fail ;)

Can you tell me how much chain? when you talking but i don't understand becuase i'm deaf.. And also i really like color blanket..
xinmic7 2 years ago
The multiple is 5+11. My crochet blog link is posted to the right of the video, under my channel image. There is additional written information related to the video. You will add 5 chains for each cat that you want to make. I made a baby afghan with a chain of 101.

Hi Teresa, I love this pattern and i have made a little bag to keep my camera in, i padded the bag inside. Now my grand daughter has seen it and she wants me to make her a scarf from this pattern. I seem to have lots of things on the go. Just wanted to ask, will this pattern be staying on here to view for quite a while yet? Thank you for all your great videos, you are the best on here.
crackerdacker 2 years ago 2
Thank you, I appreciate your comment. The only reason I would remove a crochet video is if there would be a huge mistake. Once I upload them, they are here to stay.
tjw1963 2 years ago
Thanks for this adorable pattern. I've been crocheting for over 40 years and thanks to you, I've learned how to change colors the right way.
Warning to others: Check your work often. A few of my kittens are missing paws. :(
Rxbandit420 2 years ago
You are welcome. You can add the paws later if you missed them. It will just mean sewing in some extra tails. I missed two paws on the edge and did not notice it until I was finished.

I've made several of these "kitten" blankets. They're fun, and the pattern stitch is easy once you get the hang of it.
LaClairEtoile 2 years ago
I was wondering when you get to the length you want, how do you end off? Just with the last row or is there another step? And is there to be a border on this?
mommapire 2 years ago
There is no other step. You can add a row of single crochet for a border or any other stitch that you think would look nice for a border.
tjw1963 2 years ago
